A recent visit was terribly disappointing. Fish and chips used to be good here but based on this experience, no longer. Prices have skyrocketed (they have everywhere) but there's no value for money.
I went with my granddaughter and we ordered one clam chowder and one halibut and chips "special" that was over $18. And they have the nerve to charge $3 for a can of pop with no glass or ice. Just a can of pop plopped down on the table. I'm an old granny and no fan of drinking pop from a can, especially during dinner. And for $3 I expect at least a glass, and maybe even some ice!
Very weird service. Although there were clearly two of us, the server brought one set of cutlery and one napkin. So are things so bad that two people have to share cutlery? And one napkin? What? I actually had to go to the counter to ask for another set of cutlery and she seemed confused by the request.
Also, horrible, loud elevator music! It was absolutely dreadful and seemed to be the same monotonous dopey tune on a loop. We had to ask that it be turned down and it was, very slightly. Who wants to listen to that crap when they're eating? Nobody even wants it in elevators, so what makes them think we want it when we're trying to relax and enjoy a meal?
I thought the soup would come out before the F&C, and that's why I ordered it, so my granddaughter would get something to eat quickly. But it arrived when we were nearly finished the small pieces of fish (my gdaughter didn't even eat hers after tasting as she declared it "awful").
I could be very wrong and apologies if I am, but it seemed to me to be canned soup. If you've got chowder made and ready to go, why does it take so long to arrive at the table? Somebody had to open a can and hurl it into the microwave first? Yuck! It had a very "canned soup" flavour and texture and since gdaughter was put right off her food, I was the only one who ate it and left most of it in the bowl. I can open a can of chowder at home and it doesn't cost me $8 + tax.
One order halibut and chips, one clam chowder, two cans of pop and it was $33+. No tip, I can tell you that, and I nearly always tip. There wasn't even a "thanks for coming in" or "see you again" or any friendliness from the server.
We left feeling disappointed and ripped off. There was no redeeming feature of this experience at all. Cannot recommend, will never go back. Total waste of time and money!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dinel U.Burnaby, Canada26692198Mar 13, 2022
A great place to eat Fish & Chips in the lower mainland !
The Fish & Chips depending which one you get ranges between 1piece ($12+) to 3pieces (24+) .
I like getting the 2 piece halibut with fries as it reminds me of how they made the dish back in England.
The restaurant hasn't changed for years and I really like the ambience of the place.
sometimes they do have a special of 3 piece Cod + fries/salad for only $10.99!!
Definitely a must try if you're into eating British FoodHelpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Steve M.Central Vancouver, Vancouver, Canada07Jul 12, 2023
My favourite destination for fish and chips. Prices are reasonable. Food is fresh and tasty not greasy. Staff is pleasant and helpful. Worth a visit.

A quaint spot on the drive that serves flaky, crispy battered fish and chips. My whole family got the two piece cod which comes with chips, creamy coleslaw and tartar sauce. The only this I didn't care for was the tartar because it had purple onions.
What makes this place a gem was the lady serving us. She is super friendly and genuinely cares for her customers. Thank youHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Heather C.Whistler, Canada04Apr 7, 2022
Great place. We ordered both the Cod and Halibut and both were delicious, the fries and coleslaw were great too! We started off with the Calamari and it was great. The fish was was not greasy at all. The prices are very reasonable. Will definitely come back and recommend to family and friends.

I wish it was good. The fish and chips were awful I couldn't finish it. $30 for 2 piece and a beer it felt like cafeteria food. Staff were very friendly, but I won't go back for the food

Fantastic fish & chips, the batter is so crunchy. Their grilled chicken burger is very good as well. The environment is very pleasant and the staff are incredibly nice and welcoming, which is very refreshing compared to some of the newer (and ruder) restaurants around it. One of the last stores in this neighbourhood that hasn't been bought out, gentrified and yuppified. I hope everybody who reads this review decides to order from here at least once, because businesses like these that support the community (amazing prices) should be supported back. Thanks to the super nice ladies who work there for feeding me since a child (10 years+) and for showing my friends, family and me great hospitality.

Price/quality (3/4): Good quality for the price. I had fish and chips and I was not disappointed by the food. However, I feel like the fish inside the batter could have been just a little juicier, though it was still quite tasty.
Service (0/1): Service was friendly when we got any, but it was almost non-existent otherwise. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy, yet the service was extremely slow. Half the time, the server wasn't even in sight. At one point we had to grab the menus ourselves.
Would I come here again: Probably notHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ed W.Edgemont, Calgary, Canada0131Feb 4, 2021
Had a hankering for fish and chips and wanted to dine in vs. pick up at my other favourite fins and chips place while in Vancouver. Read a few reviews that were mostly favourable for this place on Commercial Drive and when I got there it was shortly after noon and too my surprise it was still closed. The person inside noticed me outside and gestured for me to wait and several minutes later she opened the front door to let me in. She explained with Covid their operating hrs were approximate, so I would call in advance to ensure they are open if you decide to try them out
I basically had the place to my own the whole time I was there so no issues with social distancing while dining, I order the two piece cod and it came with a generous portion of fries, coleslaw and tartar sauce. The cod was lightly battered and the cod tasted fresh as well as the coleslaw. The price was decent for the potions that were served, service was attentive and I will come back. Parking I suspect could be hard to find on the weekends as it is a busy street and area, there is free street parking about two or three blocks away if you look for it .
When I was ready for the bill I might have scared the server when I got her attention because I was the only one in there at the time and her attention might have been somewhere else at the time lolHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Karen S.Burnaby Heights, Vancouver, Canada1391399Sep 2, 2020
