    About the Business

Established in 1924. For 99 years, Edomasa was a place where be-loved locals, sumo wrestlers and yakitori lovers would casually swing by on their way home from work or after their long day for quick, hot and comforting chicken skewers cooked by chefs with passion in Ryogoku, Tokyo. We're very excited to keep the tradition here in San Francisco and create a place where anyone can come try Japanese yakitori cozily!…

This was absolutely delicious! A must try if you are eating in japantown. The service was fast and they were nice. The sweetened matcha is a good drink to get there. The ambiance felt like a restaurant in Japan. You can either sit at the booths or the tables. The wait wasn't very long for a Saturday.

It doesn't look much but it was very filling. The set included miso pork belly, beef. And chicken skewers. Each skewer tasted very flavorful and delicious. The rice was also seasoned which went really well with the chicken brother. The chicken brother soup was very complimentary to the meats in the dishes. The side salad and potatoe was also very good.

Honestly, I was expecting so much more from a "Japanese yakatori" place that was marketing its from Japan.

Having been to Japan several times and had very local yakatori places, I really wanted to try and like this place. Service was just mediocre. Server didn't really know much about sake or how to open our bottle. It might have been their first week.

Food, we ordered a little of everything. And it was lack luster. In Japan, and typical yakatori places, the chef normally dips the skewers in a soy sauce based sauce, grills it, then dips again. Not this place. A lot of their meats like hearts, gizzards, were just missing that flavor profile.

With places like Mokutanya, I don't think I would come back to this place again. Over priced, and poor execution. I was expecting something so much closer to Japan for that price.

located right next to Sophie's crepes and mugizo, this is a quaint, cozy little place with a solid menu and nice presentation. Every set comes with some skewers, mushroom/yubu rice, salad, potato salad, and a thicker chicken? based soup. We got a 3 meat skewer set w a side of eel skewer (+$2), a seafood skewer set w a side of karaage, and the 5 meat skewer set w a scallop skewer (+$2). No skewers rlly stuck out to us tbh, maybe except the salmon. Portions were a lil skimpy and all the meats were rather tough, but all the flavors were pretty good. As for the rest of the set, the salad was a saving grace and they give plenty of rice. generally, tho, the sides made a pretty heavy combo - it def would've been better if some were replaced by other things to better compliment each other.

the staff were super welcoming and friendly with their suggestions and explanations!! Overall I would say it's fun to try once, but a bit too pricey for what you get to go a second time

Wanted to try this place for a while and finally took a visitor there for dinner. For some reason the whole mall was very hot and stuffy including this restaurant. There was even a fan right by our table turned on full blast. Food was good but nothing too great about it. Menu was very limited and besides chicken, they also had salmon and beef skewers too. The best were the chicken wings and chicken skin. The not so good ones were the chicken sori and the chicken meatballs, rather dry and on the bland side. I remember having yakitori where each portion had 2 stewers. Not here, as the prices are per stick. So it's easy to over order. Our tab with tip was about $55 pp. kinda pricey for what we had. I also found it rather noisy inside. However, Service was good and attentive.

I made a reservation for 7:30pm on a Monday night and was seated right away when we arrived. You can choose to sit at the bar or a table; we sat by the bar and it was super hot due to the grills being there. Next time I would choose to sit at a table.

I ordered the heart stamina, yakitori negima, chicken heart, miso pork belly, scallop and a glass of sapporo beer. My favorites are the heart stamina and scallop. The heart stamina included chicken thigh, heart and skin. The chicken thigh is juicy and tender. The scallop was cooked well and was super sweet. I really liked the sauce that was included on top of each scallop. We also got the tori karaage appetizer to share and the karaage pieces are huge! Super good value for the price.

The prices of each yakitori are also very reasonable for SF pricing! Overall I think the food is delicious and the pricing is great.

Usually I try not to review a place if I've tried a very limited selection of the menu, but the beef short ribs skewer from the Grab & Go Menu was sooo good. The beef was tender and juicy, and the signature yakitori sauce it came with was amazing! If I could buy a bottle of that sauce, I would put it on every food I came into contact with.

Overall, a delicious small bite (for $6 a skewer) to eat on the go while hanging around Japan Center.

Came back for dinner! Forgot to take pics since I was so excited, but not much has changed -- perhaps better!

I ordered the dinner yakitori set but they ran out of one of the skewers, so they asked us to choose any other meat skewers instead, even if it's pricier than the set menu selection. Attentive, friendly service, and everything came out hot & cooked to perfection. High quality meat as usual, reasonable price for what I get.

Love their chicken heart yakitori since it's the perfect chewiness. It's not rubbery like other cheap yakitori places. Tried bonjiri (chicken tail) for the first time, and I liked the texture -- fatty but not to the point where you're drinking fat oil, and I mean this in a good way! I'm glad I tried it!

Excited to come back and try other appetizers or yakitoris :))) I like how their selections are simple but done well with good quality meat.

Had such a great time here! The dining area is spacious and cozy, and the service was great.

I had the Kushiyaki Bento Box which was a solid 10/10. All of the meats (Yakitori Negima, beef short rib, and Miso-glazed pork belly) were amazing and cooked perfectly and the Takikomi soup and rice were also SO delicious. Truly was impressed with the quality of all the food, and the prices are very reasonable.

Would definitely come back and would highly recommend!

My friends and I visited Yakitori Edomasa on a whim, and it turned out to be very solid! The wait was a bit longer than expected, but the food and service were super solid.

For appetizers, we ordered the fried shishito peppers, which were great snacks to munch on while we waited for our skewers. I would've liked a bit more crunch, somewhat like Tempura, but the flavors of the pepper itself were great.

Of course, skewers are the main appeal for this place, and they did not disappoint. I tried the pork belly, chicken gizzard, prime beef, leek, abalone, and a number of other skewers, and they were almost all bangers.

The Abalone, prime beef, and Pork Belly Skewers were superb. I'd definitely recommend trying those if you're a fan of any of those proteins. The Leek skewer was also super crispy and delicious.

Honestly, the only disappointing skewer was the chicken gizzard. Both my friend and I ordered one, and it was pretty underwhelming compared to the others.

Price wise, they have some deals that could help, but to really fill up, my friends and I ordered a LOT of Skewers. If you're ever in the mood for skewers in a nice, hangout friendly restaurant, Edomasa is solid.
