If you love carbonara you have to try this place! I love carbonara and am therefore always looking for the best ones in the city, and this is at the top of my list; of course it isn't your typical spaghetti carbonara, as it is made with udon noodles, it is just as delicious and so satisfying. The sauce is creamy and has a nice amount of pancetta to give it that delicious salty flavor. The egg is cooked perfectly and coats the dish as you cut into it. It also has mushrooms in it which adds an interesting twist to regular carbonara. The udon noodles cling to the sauce and have a great texture. We will definitely be back for the udon carbonara, and we are also looking forward to trying the other things on the menu, that is if we can actually bring ourselves to split the carbonara and not have a bowl just to ourselves.

Yum! I can't wait to go back for more udon carbonara.
The perfectly cooked yolk coats the noodles just right.

Came here from Seattle on a trip:

Fish and seafood miso soup: 10 stars. It was light, had an umami taste. Might take this to go back to Seattle.

Short rib: 10 stars- really yum, lightly sweet.

Shishito peppers: 9 stars, had a charred taste- super yum.

Omakase: tuna, sockeye salmon, hamachi, Atlantic salmon. Cuts were nice and fish tasted really fresh. 9 stars

Foie gras on toast: 2 stars- I think this might be because of my palate: I'm not accustomed to the flavours and taste. But someone might enjoy it- just was not for me.

Yellow-fin tuna nigiri with pepper: really fresh and yum. 10 stars.

Overall, this is a great place to visit.

Stumbled upon this restaurant for Friday night dinner. The interior is simplistic but classy. The ambiance was nice and there was also a sushi bar. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy so we were seated right away. We ordered only a few items to start but weren't particularly impressed by the quality.

      What we ordered:
      Sockeye salmon sashimi ($10/3 pieces)
      Salmon aburi ($16)
      - it was good but nothing special. The flavours were not especially distinct and the presentation could be improved. The torching was uneven as well.
      Chicken karaage ($13)
      - the portion size of the karaage was quite generous. The batter was not oily and the chicken was cooked well.

The service was rather attentive and they had great tea. Overall, it was an alright experience. You'd probably need to order 4-5 plates for a comfortable 2 person dinner.

We came here for a light dinner as the hotel we were staying at had already fed us. Reservations were made a few days in advance. We ordered their aburi salmon, albacore nigiri, Motown roll, and a karaage.

The food that we ordered was fantastic. The salmon aburi was especially impressive. My wife liked the smokiness of the salmon and how it was presented to us. The albacore was one of the best that I've had. The Motown roll had spicy tuna and tempura shrimp. It was something that my wife, a non sushi eater, liked. It was a good place for us to try.

Restaurant Yugo is an upscale Japanese French fusion restaurant that serves premium quality sushi as well as some less common, sophisticated offerings such as Foie Gras Donburi. I ordered some sushi for takeout from them recently. Featured here:

      Hamachi Nigiri
      Sockeye Salmon Nigiri
      Gluten Free Avocado Oshi Sushi

Not the most exotic ingredients as Hamachi, Sockeye Salmon, and Avocado are all ingredients that you can find in pretty much any Japanese restaurant. The difference however is in how the ingredients were prepared.

Restaurant elevated these ingredients to another level. Most other restaurants use more rice for their nigiri and the fish lies flat on top of the rice. I love how the salmon and hamachi draped over the rice, with some extra fish hanging over the sides of the rice. The Avocado Oshi sushi was also sublime. Confit Tomato Sauce and Lemon Zest were brilliant additions which made the flavours pop in our mouths. My picky eater who usually just loves to eat a standard Avocado roll was most delighted with this new version of Avocado sushi!

Open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner which is another plus for me because at the time that I ordered from this place, I'd been struggling to find a good sushi restaurant where I could order for lunch on a Sunday!

I've heard good things about Yugo so decided to order take out delivery this past Friday. Ordered the House Bento and the Aburi & Sashimi combo.

I loved the variety of the House Bento as it is unlike what us offered at other Japanese joints. The chicken karage was cooked perfectly - light in batter and not oily. The tamago was also well done and I really enjoyed the spinach gomae. The salmon aburi nigri was also quite good. The largest portion of the Bento box was grilled salmon with rice and sadly, the salmon was overcooked and a bit dry - this was quite disappointing. The Brussel sprouts still had great crunch to it, which I appreciate.

The Aburi and sashimi combo was solid and of pretty decent price point at $25. Sashimi was of decent quality and the salmon aburi, as mentioned above, was tasty.

Hopefully the dine-in experience at Yugo is better as the prices are a little higher than your average Japanese restaurant. May need to go check it out in-person to do a follow-up review.

Ironically, after visiting the Yugo stall in Brentwood a few times, I visiting this Yugo for the first time recently.

There is a simple elegance with Yugo which I appreciate - small interior, fairly simple and minimalistic, and the presentation of the food follows a similar theme. Yugo labels itself as 'Japanese-French fusion' and while I see the Japanese more than French, there are some subtleties which I do think make it unique.

The uni pasta was a good example example of that uniqueness; so simple and creamy but hits just right. The black cod with noodles and beef sashimi were also good, and the dessert menu perfectly compliments the entrees. My fave was the black sesame ice cream and mochi.

I would love to try Yugo out again on a future visit!

Came here for New Year's Eve dinner as we wanted something good, but not a set menu like other places.

      We ordered
      1) scallop ceviche
      2) albacore tuna aburi oshi sushi
      3) le motown roll (spicy tuna tartar, tiger shrimp tempura, avocado, tobiko, green onions rolled with soy paper)
      4) double tiger shrimp aburi oshi sushi
      5) Haru special roll (salmon, albacore, white fish, tobiko rolled in cucumber)
      6) Mongo ika karaage (fried squid, onion rings and truffle mayo)
      7) tontoro (pork neck with pepper just, scallions and spicy yuzu)

So damn good. The haru roll was better if you ate the inside without the cucumber sheet as the cucumber altered the taste a little.

We liked the albacore tuna aburi roll, mongo ika karaage and le motown the most as the flavor blended well for each one.

The service was great. The servers were walking around the restaurant, asking if people needed anything like tea, more soy sauce, etc.
