My girlfriend used to go to school around H Mart in downtown; she said there's a hidden gem inside H Mart's food court, and I need to try it out!
This place does require you to find it, as it's hidden hidden. You need to go up stairs, walk to the food area, and walk to the end of the hall to see this at the end of the corner.
The menu was interesting; every dish was displayed with picutres, perfect for people like me who have a hard time imagining what they look like. We ordered the deluxe curry plus an exta potato croqute. The curry itself was flavorful; I can honestly finish all the rice with just the curry alone. Katsu was normal, as it wasn't quite juicy and the crust fell apart from the meat before we could pick it up. The croqute, on the other hand, was a great addition, with a with a crispy outer layer and a soft and mushy inside.
Overall, I'd definitely come back to ZACZAC when we come nearby. One thing I'd suggest and do differently next time is to ask the staff to put the fried food on the side instead of mixing them. A few of them were covered with curry, which had already become soggy before you could taste it.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jul 1, 2023
Staff:
The staff was okay, not overly friendly.
Quality/Quantity:
The food is really good here. They have a ton of options of traditional Japanese food. I got the Karaage which was really tasty but portions were small. We also got the Korokke which was good, as well as the Oyako don which was tasty and a huge portion.
Value:
Fair
Overall:
I'd get it for sure in the future. Plenty of seating so a nice casual ambiance.
Pro Tip:
Kinda hard to find. Go to the upstairs of the H Mart in the food court. Up the escalator and straight back to the right corner.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jogdish1000 0.Old Toronto, Toronto, Canada01Apr 5, 2024
All things on the menu............Great............as in great taste, Service is OK....as there's basically one dude, Coolness factor................because it's downtown in an "Asian market" that doesn't cater to this category of grubz........ Keep pumping it out B!! We appreciate your efforts and dedication to the industry and for keeping the quality real!!!

I've been here twice in the last few weeks and I really like it. It's tucked into the corner of the food court within the H-Mart Korean supermarket. They take card and many choices are less than $11. Lemon water is provided at the cashier and there is a bunch of condiments to add more flavour if needed.
The Tonkatsu is crispy and sits on a bed of rice which isolates it from the curry lake swimming below. Although there's options for more cutlery usually the spoon is enough for me.
Minor things: I don't like about this place are 1) how their serving dishes are all plastic throwaway containers. It's a bit wasteful for curry you're only going to eat for 15 minutes. 2) I saw a customer also leave their dirty tray on the eating bar - multiple staff saw this over the course of 20 minutes and did nothing to clean it up. In fact they slid the condiments closer to the dirty tray and tidied up all the bar stools.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jan 5, 2021
My go to spot for quick lunch. Great price and delicious. I can order shop at hmart than food will be ready!
The only complaint is there is one lady who works there who seems very annoyed and not as friendly as the others.

My mom and I were in Vancouver back in December and it was SO COLD. We'd been window shopping nearby and just wanted some hot food to warm us up. I chose ZAC ZAC after looking on Yelp, but unfortunately it took FOREVER to find this place, us being tourists and not familiar with the area. Fortunately, we managed to find it, get inside, and order before they closed at 8.
ZAC ZAC is in the H-Mart food court - just remember that it's on the second floor!
We both ordered the Katsu Curry, and it was fairly priced (also big quantity) AND the quality was great. The katsu was perfectly breaded and fried, and the pork was the perfect kind of chewy, but not too much on fat. They also give you a lot of rice and curry sauce to go along with it.
A hidden gem in H-Mart I would say!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - May 27, 2018
I really wanted to like this place, but it was just so... Average on so many levels. Don't get me wrong, it's great if you just want some mid tier food court food, but there was nothing here that outshines the other options that Hmart was selling.
I don't want to be full of myself but I'm pretty sure I can make better curry. The stuff I received tasted like the instant Japanese curry mixes that you can get at somewhere at T&T. In short, not too impressive. It was kind of pricey too, something that was totally unjustified.
Would I pay $10 for two frozen croquettes and some instant curry mix tasting food? Nope. It wasn't bad, just... Not good.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 1, 2017
Went here for dinner on my recent Vancouver trip. It's in the food court area on the 2nd floor where HMart is right in downtown Vancouver. The place is with other Asian eateries. You order at the cashier, pick up your order when they call your number, and put away your dishes where you're finished kinda thing eatery setup so basically it's self-serve in my opinion. It was peak Friday dinner time so the place a kinda disoriented and messy, the diners didn't really clean up after themselves.
I ordered #4 karaage katsu curry. The overall presentation of the plate is very typical Japanese curry place which is what I had expected. The chicken was tender and had a very thin batter. The curry sauce was good.
All in all, this is a good spot for a quick serve dinner in the city and nothing fancy. My friend and I went here because we wanted a place that's not table service so we can catch our 7pm movie right away.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1076374227Aug 6, 2017
This food stall is all the way at the back of the food court in H-Mart on the second floor.
Their curry dishes are excellent!! We ordered curry chicken udon, tonkatsu bento and karaage curry with rice. I personally loved the deep fried pork cutlet with curry.
Pricing and portion of all the dishes are reasonable. I would definitely come back and try other dishes.
I was wondering if they would do any stamp cards for customers. If I was a student or I worked in the same neighbourhood, I would come here for lunch or dinner. I could get stamps for coming here many times. It would be great to get a free meal if I got 10 stamps or more. Similar ideas like Danbo ramen. Getting 10 stamps (or eating ramen 10 times) and getting a free ramen the 11th time.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 30315184542Dec 25, 2016
To be perfectly honest, I didn't even want to dine here. It was our first night in the city, and we'd passed by so many great restaurants on our way to our hotel, but this came up high on my husband's recommended places. It was raining and dark by the time we left our hotel room, so I think the fact that it was within easy walking distance was also a draw.
Following the Google Maps directions, we ended up in front of an H Mart. That made me want to eat here even less. Not that I have anything against H Mart, but it's a chain - one that we have in San Diego - and as a rule, we try to steer clear of chains while traveling (because we like to experience local cuisine and such while we travel, as much as possible.)
Still, as I mentioned, it was raining and dark, and we'd had a long day of work and travel, so neither of us were really in the mood to pull out our phones to find another location that was open at that hour.
I wish we had.
The food wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't fantastic. It was hot and filling, and I think that's about all I can say for that.
This restaurant is all the way in the back of their restaurant row, so you have to walk upstairs and past all the other food establishments to get there. The menu board was gigantic, for a quick-serve curry house, and the counter top near the order window was minuscule. The girl working the counter was friendly, at least.
The food (oyakudon for me, chicken katsu curry for him) came out quickly, which is always a bonus. You order at the counter, then either find a table (ours was semi-clean), or hang out to get your food to go. Water was free for customers, and served out of a pitcher that was located on the counter. You popped up to grab your food when it was ready, and you cleaned up after yourself when you were finished eating (you did if you had any manners, that is).
Again, it wasn't a horrible dining experience - just not what I was looking for on our first night in Vancouver. At least it wasn't very far from the hotel, and got us in and out relatively quickly and cheaply.
Plus, we were able to stroll the aisles of H Mart before heading back out into the rain, so that was nice.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
