Wow! Sit at the bar and say yes to everything Roger offers.

We had the pleasure of getting the best seat in the house right next to Roger and going on a 2.5 hour journey with him as he shared his passion and love for creating a seriously memorable and engaging omakase experience.

It was our first time here, I wasn't sure what to expect but I was intrigued by the other high reviews and praise from other guest's reviews. I can now confidently say this is a true diamond in the rough.

It's an unpretentious space and while Roger can seem a bit gruff at first, he is an absolute delight. We felt as if we were dining in his home and his staff only added to the welcoming atmosphere.

Rogers style is his own and he has it down pat. You just have to trust his process and experience the magic. He has been sharing his gift for the last 22 years and has received many years of Michelin and Zagat praise as well as a serious following of supportive customers.

This is one of those meals that will stay in my mind forever. I am honored to have had shared this experience with him and look forward to the next visit.

We really wanted to like this place, but it's not authentic Japanese. The salmon lover we got came with Unagi sauce which my daughter didn't like. the five piece sushi with hand roll also ended up with some unagi sauce. Not impressed.

The chicken udon broth was off too. Chinese owned Japanese that is a bit more Chinese.

      We will not be back.

Chef's counter with Roger was unbelievable
Fish was perfectly sourced, creatively prepared and served. Roger educated you and enhanced what was a truly wonderful experience.

I am disappointed by my recent experience at Zushi Puzzle. My friends and I have been loyal patrons, but this visit left a lot to be desired.

Let me start by expressing my sheer disappointment with the Wakame Salad (Seaweed salad). The portion size has shrunk significantly, and it's quite frankly unacceptable.

The Ikura Nigiri was an absolute disaster. It was shockingly tiny and poorly made, with the seaweed barely clinging on and the ikura falling out before the waitress could even serve it. It's beyond comprehension how a restaurant can serve such subpar sushi.

To make matters worse, there was a considerable delay between receiving our dishes. Despite the restaurant being about 80% occupied, we had to wait for almost 20 minutes between each dishes.

And don't even get me started on their pricing deception. The online menu clearly stated the Ikura Nigiri at $6, but lo and behold, they have the audacity to charge $9 on the bill. When I asked about it, the waitress shamelessly claimed the online pricing was incorrect. This level of dishonesty is nothing short of appalling.

Honestly, I am really turned off by Zushi Puzzle's lack of integrity. It's simply not right for a restaurant to manipulate prices and treat their loyal customers with such disregard. They need to take immediate action to address these issues, or they risk losing more patrons like myself who expect better quality and honesty in their dining experience.

This is an ok sushi establishment - not a great one. I'm not saying this out of spite, but rather in an effort to give ZP the honest review I think it deserves.

The two glaring issues that stood out to me were: (1) the amateur-ish way the chef cut the fish - while tasty, the presentation quality did not represent the skills of a well-trained sushi chef; and (2) the pacing of the wait service was way off - it felt brash and rushed throughout the evening (i.e. not very Japanese). I understand that this is not a Japanese-owned place, but the experience could be improved by applying these simple rules:

      1. Only come back once to politely ask patrons if they're ready to order.
      2. Don't push a dish unless patrons ask for suggestions.
      3. Ask if guests are done before removing items from the table.
      4. Bring out the food in the correct order - i.e. appetizers, then entrees, then dessert.
      5. Never give your patrons the impression that you're in a hurry to get their order in and get them out.

There's more I could say, but as I said - I'm not trying to ding them for not being traditional. The thing is, if you're are going to charge a premium for your food and represent yourself as a "sushi restaurant," you have to expect reviews like this.

Chef Roger delivered on the experience of a lifetime! The sushi was absolutely amazing. We left extremely satisfied and overly full of sushi - in a good way. This is absolutely a hidden gem in San Francisco. Thank you Roger!

AMAZING fish and sushi at very reasonable price. Pieces were big as well. I don't know where you can find a better price to fish quality place. They get their fish fresh from various parts of the world. The server was knowledgeable and recommended unique tasty fish. 1000000/10 recommend!

      Updated review

i came back to this restaurant on 1/23 in the evening, the cuts of fish were clearly ragged at the edges, not from the same quality of premium cuts I got when I came here for the first time. Some of the rice on two of the nigiris fell apart when I tried to dip it upside down in the soy sauce. I was clearly given the cuts of fish that were leftover from some other sushi roll that the chef made.

This is the worst Japanese food ever. From the beginning, the tea smells fishy, sushi smells fishy, uni is not fresh at all. Most food is below average. Also the food is very slow, we were told because they have only one chef. Don't recommend.
