Jennifer’s 4-star review: Aberdeen Centre is conveniently located right at Aberdeen Skytrain Station. As a tourist with limited time and into Asian food, this maybe the most convenient one stop for everything Chinese, Japanese and Korean. You can have a food crawl just inside the mall for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and of course dessert. The only sad thing is nothing really opens too early or stay opens too late. Why Guu would be closing at 7 pm on weekdays and 9 pm on weekends? Fisherman's Terrace not open till 11 am for dim sum?! And of course I can find Daiso, my favourite $2 store right here too. -
Jennifer’s 2-star review: Pacific Central Station is where we boarded our Amtrak Cascades to Seattle. Easily accessible as it is just across from Skytrain Main Street Station. It does looks grand from the outside and good as a photo stop. But there is NOTHING inside. Maybe I am just spoiled by all the other amazing train stations I had visited around the World but as a "central' station for a big city like Vancouver I did expect a lot more. Being small and have nothing inside, it is really easy to find everything. Queue for US Immigration, Security Screening and the Platform. It was not even busy. So I think I should not be complaining for a Station that is not busy. But luckily, there are tons of restaurants and bars within walking distance. -
Jennifer’s 3-star review: This review is for Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge Domestic Departure. Nothing beat a shower to refresh yourself after a long haul flight from Asia. I did feel a lot better and ready for a nap after a hot shower. Having shower facilities is great at this Air Canada MLL. The staff was really accommodating but seemed super busy as they barely able to keep the shower facilities clean and ready for the next guest. I will stick with drinks. Open bar is always great. The Cream of Mushroom soup they served were worse than my cooking as there were lumps and lumps of powdered soup base. A bite into one of those, made me not wanting to eat anything else. Compares to other North American Airline Lounges, Air Canada MLL is quite decent. As it can be worse if you are in UAL lounge eating crackers and with no open bar. -
Jennifer’s 4-star review: 3.5 Star We were lucky as we walked into an empty Artisan Sake Maker on a Sunny Fall afternoon. We were able to do a sampler $5/3 and chat with the staff a little about their sakes. 10 minutes after, the store was packed with a walking tour group of 15! I really like the idea of how Artisan Sake Maker has started some initiative including having locally rice operation and how production are centre upon "sustainability, all natural and locality." We sampled all 4 available that afternoon for $5+$2: Osake Junmai Nama Osake Junmai Nama Nigori Osake Junmai Nama Genshu Osake Junmai Sparkling Sake All the above was fruity and really easy drinking. The price is right as Nama at $15 or so for 375 ml. Just my personal taste as the sake did not really wow me. Conveniently located on Granville Island, so as a tourist, one would probably be in the hood anyway. Worth coming if there is no tour group because this place becomes a mad house with only 1 storefront staff! -
Jennifer’s 4-star review: There are a few bakeries inside Granville Island Public Market but if you want to taste the BEST, looks no further than Bon Macaron Patisserie. So colourful and so pretty. The flavours they have are quite unique including some Granville Island exclusive. A lot of asian inspired and old time favourite. The hardest part is to decide how many as I really feel like just picking them all up and take a bad ass photos of me eating rainbow colours of macaron. And at $1.50 each?! Seriously? If you are a Macaron lover, just give them a try. -
Jennifer’s 4-star review: What I would do for some good craft beers!! Dragging my luggage all the way uphill from Pacific Central Station was not easy. But for the beers at Brassneck Brewery, it is worth the hike! Flight of 4 x 6oz for $8 or $2.50 each with 11 beers on taps Ambiguation (Tart Belgian Wheat) Sticks & Stones (Rye Saison) The Geezer (Dry English Porter) Magic Beans (Coffee Beer) All the beers we sampled has great character and true to style. Some of the best ones I sampled during my Weekend in Vancouver. Since we were here during a weekday afternoon, the place were not too busy and the atmosphere really relaxing. After some drinking, I happily roll down the hill. Life is good! -
Jennifer’s 3-star review: Brews?! Oh Coffee Brewing.... The interior of Brews And Bites Coffee is spacious and modern. Seems like a great coffee shop to chill with your friends and have some work done. I think the problem is this cafe is just so unmemorable. The cappuccino was ok. The baked good was ok. The barista was ok. A little out of the way from the train station. I would walk a mile uphill for some beers but I doubt I would walk just to have coffee here. -
Jennifer’s 3-star review: Champion Taiwanese Beef Noodle?! I definitely had high expectation before my visit to Chef Hung. I am even willing to pay $13 to try this out. At this price point, I expect something that is so amazing that would have brings tears to my eyes. Flat Thick Noodles was good. Love the texture and the chewiness. But both the broth and braised beef were disappointing bland aside from saltiness. The side dish we ordered on the other hand was just bland and under seasoned. Maybe it is me that not used to the "Champion" level of how authentic Taiwanese noodle should tasted like. I left a little confused but now I know I love my homemade Taiwanese noodle the best! -
Jennifer’s 4-star review: 3.5 Star During my weekend in Vancouver, my YVR's Foodie friend highly recommended that I give Chef Tony a try. She was kind enough to make a reservation for us and even treated us. Just want to thanks her for her kindness and hospitality. Dim Sum with a twist. We ordered quite a few items on the menu and I enjoyed most of the items but some of them was definitely a miss. Signature Dim Sum: Black Truffle Pork and Shrimp Dumplings 黑松露燒賣 Shrimp and Matsutake Dumplings 松茸蝦餃皇 Bitter Gourd and Shredded Rice Noodle 涼瓜汁雞絲腸粉 Yi Dong Special Egg White Custard Tarts 酥皮奶香蛋撻 Dim Sum: Chicken Feet 醬汁鳳爪 Sticky Rice Stuffed Chicken Wing 糯米醸雞翼 Steamed Spare Ribs 豉汁香芋排骨 Braised Beef Tendon and Stomach 柱侯牛根肚 Their signature dim sum were all well prepared. I am a fan of bittermelon so I really intrigued with the rice noodle. I would say just pay a little more and just order from the Signature menu to avoid disappointment.

Jennifer’s 4-star review: Coo Coo Coffee is a cute cafe for a coffee in Yaletown. Breakfast Muffin for $3.75 has 4 different ones to choose from. Great as a snack to start your day! My Spicy Chorizo was A-OK with a little kick of spices! Much better than McMuffin from McDonald! :) On a nice day, it is definitely more enjoyable to sit on the patio as the inside is quite small. Coffee is so so but still passable and the small is like a medium at most other cafes! Staff is really friendly and cheerful. Excellent customer service! -
Jennifer’s 3-star review: DD Mau's Banh Mi at $4 for half sandwich is the most expensive banh mi I ever ate. For that price, I did expect a lot more. The Classic and Grilled Lemongrass Chicken were not bad but just overpriced. The ingredients though really fresh and quite tasty. Service is friendly. The interior is nice and hip. But if you don't mind paying for this more fusion Vietnamese food experience, then you would enjoyed DD Mau. -
Jennifer’s 4-star review: I visit Daiso every time when I am in town to pick up some small items that I might forget to pack. For $2, that's really cannot be beat. I have been wishing that Daiso would open up in Toronto soon? But I have been waiting for years..... This beats Dollarama or any other Dollar Stores I have been to. 2 floor of goodies and hours of shopping pleasures! -
Jennifer’s 4-star review: Thank you Jason W. I got some peace, quiet and some rest in this busy airport. Great view of the runways and especially if you are a plane buff, it is always fun to watch all these planes taking off and landing. A lot of the crew and YVR workers seems to enjoy some quiet time here too. Definitely an Oasis if you want some quiet time in the busy YVR airport. -
Jennifer’s 4-star review: I really don't expect much from an Espresso Bar in the middle of Richmond where Chinese food rules! But Fresh Press Coffee Bar is just a pleasant surprise! 2 kind of Singl beans with different tasting profile to choose from Mellow or Bold? regardless what espresso drink you order! I usually like a bolder flavour for my cappuccino drink vs a pour over. (+1) And if you opt for V60 Pour Over, the barista would match that with another bean. Milk foamed perfectly with skilled latte art. I usually don't order any pastry at Coffee Shop but the Coconut Macaroon deserves a shoutout. The shop is small but cozy. Tucked near the back of Lansdowne Strip Mall. Thanks Yelp App as I doubt I would have find it if I just walking around. Highly recommend if you are in the area! -
Jennifer’s 4-star review: Granville Island is a fun place for tourists to visit. It is a bit touristy but love the little shops, all the drinking and eating options here. The view is just so peaceful and relaxing. Highly recommend to drop by on a nice day. We were here on a Sunday last week of October and it was not busy at all. But I can imagine how it can be packed during summer! Easily accessible by #50 bus from Downtown area. -
Jennifer’s 3-star review: I have been drinking beers from Granville Island Brewing for years in Toronto area. So I was kind of excited that I can finally drink them at source. A brewery pub and a retail store in one location. Swing Span Maple Shack Cream Ale Infamous IPA Pumkining They were all Meh to OK. Just like how I find the usual ones that I got from the local LCBO. I kind of wish they have some of the Blacknote Series for sampling. As those are not widely available. Service was friendly even we did not order tons of beers or food. -
Jennifer’s 4-star review: As someone that likes to eat and just like looking at food in general, I had a great time wandering around Granville Island Public Market. Local produces, vegetables, fruits, flowers, bread, pastry, tea, coffee and more. Fun place to browse around and pick up some snacks. One of the highlight of my weekend in Vancouver. -
Jennifer’s 4-star review: Granville Island Tea Company inside Granville Island Public Market is an excellent place if you want to grab a cup of tea or get some loose leaf tea. The only issue maybe the huge selection they carries. But there is always a perfect tea for every occasion and to suit your mood. There are some sampling cans (over 40 different ones!) for your to smell some of the tea even before you get to the counter. Price is reasonable, consider it is a really touristy area. Highly recommend if you are a tea drinker while you visiting the Market! -
Jennifer’s 4-star review: Congee and Steamed Rice Roll is my favourite breakfast item and Kongee Dinesty delivers! Breakfast combo for $8.95 is a wining combo! Arriving at 10 am and there was a little wait for a table for 1. Love how clean the restaurant is. Minced Beef and Pork Blood Congee was loaded with protein. Portion is quite big and it was served steaming hot! Rice roll with dried shrimp and green onion is sizable too. I love the texture of the rice roll and how it is made when order. Kongee Dinesty is great if you are looking for traditional Chinese breakfast which I really crave for almost everyday. A little out of the way from any Skytrain stations if you are using public transportation. -
Jennifer’s 4-star review: Now I am in love with Taiwanese Izakaya! Voted the Best Taiwanese Restaurant By Chinese Restaurant Award, Maji Restaurant did not disappointed! Now I am in love with Taiwanese Beers! I would not say that they are beers, but more like beer tasted like fruity carbonated drinks. Arriving on a Saturday for a late night snack and we got seated immediately! Love the varieties of food choice and most of them best to share family style and goes well with beers. Good Food and Fruity Beers, kind of perfect night out with my friends! -
Jennifer’s 3-star review: 2.5 Star I love Mango and I am crazy about Durian. Mango Yummy just kind of the perfect place for me, On a Saturday night, 20 minute before closing time, this place was packed! Extra 1 star for the cheerful and friendly attitude of all the staff. Still taking orders even being so patient with us even it took us awhile to decide on what we want. We ordered 3 items: Mango, Durian and Tofu Pudding (hot), Mango all cut up in random shapes and in a different degree of ripeness, Tofu Pudding was served in a tall cup in form of a drink? Durian probably the one I enjoyed the most. Since I was only in town for the weekend, I am not sure if there are other options of mango dessert in the area, But it was not worth a special trip unless you are in the neighbourhood, -
Jennifer’s 4-star review: I have been to a handful of Plaza Premium Lounges and this YVR Domestic Plaza Lounge is the best one I have visited. I guess I was lucky to be here after the renovation. I just love everything. Real Espresso Machine with a barista. (Though my cappuccino was so so, I think a little more training might be needed to make a perfect cup) A real bar with a bartender (Might not be for everyone. I wish they would have a little cocktail menu just like AMEX Centurion Lounge) There are also draft beer from local breweries! Hot Plate and Option to order a couple of things off the menu (Not gourmet quality but at least moving to the right direction) The pasta I ordered was OK. Shower and Nap Facilities! Now I know where to come for power nap after a hot shower for my long haul flight. I wish Plaza Premium will be renovating most of their lounges around the World up to this standard! -
Jennifer’s 4-star review: Great Coffee. Cool Vibe. Hipster Coffee Place. Limited seating. I kind have to fight for mine. But kind of worth my effort to able to drink from a real coffee cup instead of a takeout cup. Macchiato was well made. Great creme, perfectly foamed milk and excellent latte art. Worth dropping by when you are in Gas Town. -
Jennifer’s 4-star review: Sky Train was the mode of transportation during my Weekend in Vancouver. Getting a day pass might be the easiest option for tourists as you don't need to figure out how many zones you are travelling or what time it is for the 1 price for all zone. If not the light would go red when you try to exit the gate. But since it is running on honour system, I got a little more confused. $5 surcharge for YVR line. But it is reasonable priced for travelling to/from airport.

Jennifer’s 3-star review: Reservation recommended and maybe required if you want to have dinner at Suika. This is the only Izakaya that we visited during our weekend in Vancouver so I can only review Suika based on my visit. Staff is friendly but service a little slow. They did enforce a time limit. But with only just 3 of us, we finished our pre dinner snack well within the time frame. We ordered: Fresh Ginger Ale ($3.50) Yuzu Shirley Temple ($4) Sea Urchin Sashimi ($8.80) Sweet Shrimp Sashimi ($6.80) Scallop Sashimi ($8.80) Softshell Crab ($9,80) Beef Tendon Bibimba ($9.80) Chicken Karaage ($8.80) Sashimi highly recommended. So fresh and so very fresh!! We ended up ordering extra Sweet Shrimp. And of course Uni!! Cooked food Avoid! All the 3 items we ordered were meh. Especially the fried chicken was so dried and overcook and bitter especially the smaller pieces, we ended up not finishing it. I did let the waitress know and she ended up asking the kitchen to make us more... (I think they should just asked if we want something else or just take it off the bill) The lighting in the main dinner area is a little bright for a true Izakaya experience. Sitting at the bar area maybe more fun and intimate. I doubt I will be back. But Sulika is in walking distance from Granville Island so if you are in the area, it might worth a visit for the sashimi! But I guess when seafood in season, there are probably so many other choice for good sashimi in the area. -
Jennifer’s 2-star review: I was hoping that The Farmer's Apprentice would be the highlight during my Week in Vancouver as it was recommended by a local friend and several food bloggers, but I was just so disappointed. It might went down in my "travel to eat" memoir as One of the Top 10 worst set menu meals I ever had. Booking via Bookenda was easy and we got an instant confirmation. I already knew there are only set menu options with "omnivore" $55 and "herbivore" $50. Since there were 2 of us, we ended up ordering both to share. All I had to say that the chef worked too hard trying to bring different flavours and elements together without any balance in taste. I really appreciate how local and seasonal ingredients are used to create each dish. But the bottom line, the food has to taste good. I think the portion was fine as a taster menu as too much mediocre food just means too much food. During the meal, we just kept asking ourselves why? why we paying for these? why we ended up eating here? Did the chef taste the food? Maybe we just not have the sophistication to understand? The only thing we enjoyed was our dessert.... Beewax Ice Cream, Mutsu Apple, Milk was just so clean tasting and refreshing! Service was attentive and I love the small cozy vibe here. I just wish the food taste better. -
Jennifer’s 3-star review: This review of The Flying Pig is based on my brunch experience. Did I come with a high expectation? In a way with all a 4 Star and over 500+ reviews. But sadly the brunch experience was just OK. I do love the fact that I can make a reservation as it is always a frustrating experience to wait for more than 30 minute for a table especially you only in town for the Weekend. Menu looked interesting and promising. But the 3 items we shared did not really impressed me enough for a repeat visit or as must visit. BC Salmon Sampler ($10.50) Braised Beef Short Rib with Jumbo Macaroni ($14.50) - meh, really underseasoned and ribs so dry Sausage Harsh Brown ($14) Special of the Day Drinks: Glory Day/Mimosa/Latte The best item was the complimentary banana bread! -
Jennifer’s 4-star review: Love the tasting room and the bar area of The Liberty Distillery. Mix or Match Flight at $2.50 each or pre selected flights of Gin, Vodka and Whisky at $7.5/3. As usual I do want to try everything and unfortunately my alcohol tolerance is quite low so I decided to just mix and match 3 to sample. Truth Vodka Railspur No 1 White Railspur No 2 White Wildflower Honey 100% BC Organic Wheat and Barley A perfect way to sample some of the products of The Liberty Distillery. And if you prefer their spirits in a well crafted cocktails, the friendly bartender for sure can craft you one of those! Happy Hour! Monday to Thursday from 3 - 6 pm. If you are in Granville Island doing the things that tourists do, definitely worth dropping by for a visit! -
Jennifer’s 4-star review: The Westin Wall Centre in Richmond is good for a short stay especially if you flying in and out of YVR. The free shuttle though took awhile to arrive at YVR but was quite comfy and the driver was really courteous, The room is well appointed and well kept. Location though maybe a problem as it is though walkable to Skytrain Stations and Richmond Business Area for Chinese Food but it is quite far if you walking in the rain on a cold fall night.... Getting downtown is quite convenient using Skytrain. But if you going to spend most of your time downtown, I would suggest forget about staying here. But if the price is right, it is great for a short stay or if you have a car. You might able to find some contract rates from some hotel booking website. -
Jennifer’s 4-star review: Great Art Where People Live, Work, Play and Transit. As a tourist wandering around the City, I saw various art work and exhibition in different media: a painting, a sculpture, a totem.. Next time if you are in town and saw something out of place, it might be one of the exhibits. Famous artists from around the World are involved in this program. The Vancouver Biennale is funded through grants, corporate sponsorship, gifts in-kind, philanthropic donations and supplemented by the sale of art after each exhibition. 100% of the net profits from the sale of Biennale artworks are used to fund the exhibitions and programs. And yes, I might be sitting on a piece of art sipping my coffee!
