Marina’s 5-star review:
WOW! This restaurant is amazing... one of the best italian restaurants I've been to in New York hands down. I felt like I walked into an extension of my Nana and Papa's house when I entered the dining room at Da Franco's. I scanned the menu and didnt understand the majority of it so I knew this was the real deal! Service was attentive, patient and all around what I hope for when dining out.
We spent some time looking over the wine menu and after a few mini taste tests which they happily conducted, we ended up getting a bottle of their amazing rosato vino from sicily! The prices really can't be beat! The majority of the bottles we're between $20-24. How can you say no to that!? Italian wines too! My god!!!!!
My friend and I decided to split an appetizer along with a pasta dish. We started with the breaded melanzane (eggplant) baked with tomato sauce and fresh mozzerella - it truly was one of the most amazing things I've ever tried in a restaurant. I'll probably order that everytime I go! Not to mention in the midst of this they brought out their grilled bread infused with herbed oil - the two together were delightful in every sense of the word. (Check my instagram picture in the photos section to witness what I'm talking about!!). After getting over how good our app was, with careful consideration in regards to the pasta, we ordered the Linguine Alla Messinese which is sauteed in garlic & olive oil with tomatoes, onions, basil and mozzerella. It was DELICIOUS! After taking just one bite, I knew the pasta was freshly made in house and the flavors were incredible. This is the way italian food SHOULD BE!!!! De Franco's does it right.
We were there for a few hours and couldn't believe how empty the restaurant was on a Thursday night. Granted I understand it might be a bit of a walk from the train station and people opt for convenience but this place cannot be missed for authentic Italian at unbeatable prices! The owner Franco even came up to us at the end and refilled our wine glasses because he could tell that my friend and I hadn't seen each other in a while and wanted us to "enjoy our time" at his restaurant. We all talked for like 30 minutes about my italian family, his italian family, his inspirations and hopes for his restaurant. I haven't had such a great dining experience like that in a long time and now I'm a fan for life! I can't wait to come back to my new italian gem in NYC!
