Mia’s 2-star review: I came here very excited to try the oyster bar as I heard so much about it and was rather disappointed by my meal. Walking into the place, the restaurant is very spacious with a high ceiling, dim lights, and a live pianist (who was probably my favorite part of the restaurant as they were so kind and fun to chat with). From the beginning, the table we were sat at was tiny (I'm sure to fit more customers) and the ladies next to us were also visibly uncomfortable and ended up moving to a different table as they were so close together. We ended up ordering some oysters, a shrimp cocktail, and a salad. The salad was the best part of the meal. The oysters were meh and we didn't finish the shrimp cocktail because there was just no flavor. Overall, I wouldn't come back here and would recommend to check out another restaurant if you wanted some oysters. -
Mia’s 5-star review: I came here during a vacation, when I had to take a quick break and get some work done. As an American, I was SHOCKED finding out that there's a 24/7 cafe (I think that alone already deserves 5 stars, especially with the consistent quality throughout the evening). This location has both indoor and outdoor seating, but be warned that it may be difficult to find seats as it's so busy. There are so so many options for drinks, desserts, and foods, but I only tried an iced Americano and a couple small desserts. The coffee itself was a bit burnt but I didn't mind all that much. And, the desserts were also alright. They aren't as good as if you were to go to a specialized bakery, however, for a place open 24/7 and a small bite with friends while hanging out, it isn't bad. If this place weren't 24/7 I would rate it a 4/5 as the food is meh, but I just love how convenient this cafe is! -
Mia’s 5-star review: I came here about 30 minutes before lunch service ended, and although they did warn us that they were doing last calls AS we were sitting (so we had to decide what to eat ASAP) the staff throughout the whole experience was very polite and kind. In a panic mode, my boyfriend and I ordered: the steamed shrimp, scallop, and pork XLB, shrimp and pork shaomai, steamed vegetable and pork dumplings, wontons in hot & sour sauce, spicy string beans with minced pork, a fried rice, and a mango panna cotta for dessert. We quickly realized that we over-ordered but decided that to-go wouldn't be a bad option in the end. Somehow, we finished EVERYTHING. I'm sure the staff was just as shocked as I was haha. Considering everything we ordered, the food was very well-priced and the portion sizes were great. Everything was delicious and out of all the foods I tried, I would definitely recommend the XLB and string beans. I would love to try another location next time I'm nearby! -
Mia’s 5-star review: Easily one of my favorite restaurants in Vancouver. Ever since I've come here, I still think about it from time to time and crave coming back. I highly recommend making reservations ahead of time to ensure that you have a table or you may have to wait (or even worse, be out of luck and not have a table). They have indoor, outdoor, and bar seating and all of them are great (although outdoor seating in the winter does have seating similar to kotatsu). My boyfriend and I ordered a menu item from each of their menu categories which included, kobe beef shabu shabu udon, sashimi bowl, aburi sushi, and chicken karaage. Everything was SO delicious. I cannot express it enough. I enjoyed every bite of my dinner and I loved how all of the dishes were so different but blended together so well. There were so many different tastes of umani, sweet, and savory. Everything was also portioned perfectly and so fresh. I would love to come back with more friends and highly recommend. -
Mia’s 4-star review: I'm not quite sure why there's such a poor review of this place--I thought it was amazing. I did dine in both the restaurant and cafe area on the same day, and I have different experiences for both. Restaurant: The restaurant is a different area than the cafe portion, and you have to walk through the cafe to get to the restaurant. While sitting here, I felt as if it was more spacious and there was more lighting. Similar to other restaurants, the staff comes to your table to wait for you. My friend and I came here for brunch and got two different dishes. While they took a while to come out, considering we were 1/2 tables they had at the end, service felt quite slow. However, the food was so filling and delicious in the end. Cafe: The cafe is definitely more cramped than the restaurant portion and a lot busier. Like any other cafe, you order your drinks and food at the front then sit down at a table. Be ready as there may not be seating when you come so you may have the wait. I would recommend a soft dessert like a cake or muffin as I ordered the berry tart and it was HARD. The crust was so hard that I could barely cut through it without crumbling and it made the eating process so difficult. The drinks were also okay. Overall, the inside of the restaurant and cafe were both so pretty. Food presentation was beautiful and it was a great place for brunch. However, if I had to recommend one or the other, I would recommend trying the restaurant here rather than the cafe as the ambiance and service was much better. -
Mia’s 5-star review: I've heard of Dolar Shop so much before coming here and how it was always compared to Haidilao, so I had to give it a shot. Located in an Asian mall/supermarket complex, the inside of the restaurant is very nice, clean, and spacious. You can make reservations or walk-in (but be ready for a wait, just in case). Once you are ready, they walk you to your table in the back. You order on an iPad and there's so many seafood, meat, and veggie options. My friend and I ordered a little of each (it wasn't actually very little and we definitely over ordered LOL). We each got different soup bases (Exquisite Silver Soup & Black Truffle Mushroom Broth) and they were both so rich and flavorful. Although definitely on the pricier side, every dish that came out was beautifully presented and the quality was amazing. Aside from the wagyu melting in your mouth, the one that surprised me the most was the shrimp paste, as it was nearly like freshly ground shrimp (rather than a mix of shrimp with other ingredients as many other restaurants do). The service was amazing and they provided you with hairties, aprons, etc. The part I was most disappointed about was the sauce bar, as I felt that it was lacking compared to other hot pot places, especially for the price point (but I didn't mind that much). Overall, I would definitely recommend if you want some nicer dining hot pot (and definitely get the ice cream at the end!). -
Mia’s 3-star review: Came here one evening after dinner to keep the night going and it was so fun. Despite the lower ratings for this store, I had a great time. We were seating immediately in the loud and lively restaurant and service throughout the whole time was very quick. My friend and I just wanted to order drinks, so it was a bit of a disappointment that they also made us order food (it was a requirement), especially because we had just eaten dinner. Maybe it was because we had just eaten, but the food was alright. The side dishes in my opinion were downright bad, but the Korean Army Stew that we got wasn't awful, but not the best. I just wish it was fine to order a small snack with drinks or something rather than be forced to do an entree. -
Mia’s 5-star review: Located in a strip mall, there's a bunch of other restaurants and things to do for you before and after you grab boba. I've been to this location of Machi Machi now versus the Robson one and much rather prefer this location. The inside of the shop is much more spacious, clean, and I've noticed they tend to have more menu items available than the Robson location. I love how many different drinks they have and how unique they are (you typically don't get panna cotta in boba). Although I've tried some of their more creamy, milky flavors I prefer the fruiter ones from Machi Machi. Their drinks are so good and refreshing, and if you change their sweetness a bit, the perfect amount of sweetness. Staff here was very sweet. If I could change anything though, I wish there were seating in the shop. -
Mia’s 5-star review: I came here to study with a friend and I loved the calm and quiet ambiance with the great drinks and food. Located inside of a strip mall, they are next to a bunch of other small shops. Despite their outside appearance, the inside is actually much bigger than I thought and includes an upstairs seating area. They had quite a few of drinks and food options, but my friend and I just decided on a cake and milk tea. Service was alright, a bit slow and not very nice but I didn't really mind. The cake was so so good. There's a hard layer of cream on the outside to break through when you get into the cake but it's SO good. The cake is light and airy, and not too sweet. The hazelnuts go with the matcha so well and add something new and complimentary to the cake. Highly recommend. The inside of the shop is also pretty quiet and has dim lighting, but they do have wifi for you to study at! -
Mia’s 5-star review: I came here with a group of friends for dim sum one morning and it was amazing. I've never had dim sum in Vancouver before (I'm from the States) and the experience was so much better. The inside of the restaurant was so big and spacious, with lots of tables and it felt very clean. From the looks of the restaurant itself, it is definitely one of the nicest dim sum spots I've been to. We came towards the end of lunch, so there weren't many, if any, carts being pushed around (if they even did that). But because my friends were showing me the place, they ordered everything from the menu. The food took a while to come out and came out one-by-one rather all at once/close to each other. We got the ha cao, siu mai, shrimp rice rolls, pork, egg custard buns, egg soup, and a fried rice with roe on top. Everything was delicious and I highly recommend the fried rice--I've never had anything like it. A second favorite was the egg custard buns as you could definitely tell it was freshly made and really tasted like eggs. I had a great time here and I would love to come back! -
Mia’s 4-star review: This was my first time at high tea and I had such a fun experience! I came a bit early, so I just sat downstairs at their shop where they had baked goods and little trinkets on sale. When it's time for your reservation (and you should be on time, because even 10 minutes before they would not let us upstairs to sit) you'll head upstairs and be walked to your seat. They give you a fairly big tea menu for you to choose what tea you would like. And when they bring it out, they bring out a timer as well and give you directions on steeping it properly. The inside of the shop is so cute and the chairs were really comfortable. The food itself was alright. The savory sandwiches were good, but a bit on the dry side. And the sweets were also a bit dry too, which made the food kind of meh (I kept having to drink lots of tea for everything to go down). But if it weren't for that it was good. They give you SO much food on both the stand as well as little bites for you that they bring out separately. Nonetheless, I still had a great time here and it was just so fun to spend it with someone. After this experience, I would definitely love to check out more high tea spots! -
Mia’s 4-star review: Came here after my friend told me how famous the place was and that the donuts were super good, and it was in the area! As the place is right in the middle of Granville, you can just grab a quick snack as you're walking around. :) (Note: It was a stand and there isn't really a sit down area) There was a bit of a line when I got there, but fortunately it goes by super fast. I got a couple of donuts with my friend to share and the were all great! Although they weren't super outstanding compared to some other donuts, they were definitely delicious--super light, fluffy and still warm from being freshly baked. Highly recommend for everyone to check out! -
Mia’s 5-star review: Came here on a weekend for brunch and we were so worried that there was not going to be seating because it was PACKED. Fortunately, there was bar seating so we just got that (table seating would have been an hour wait). Inside the restaurant, it was very loud and the tables are packed fairly tight together so be warned. However, the ceilings are high and it's very bright, making it seem very lively. My boyfriend and I got a couple of plates to share and everything was so good. We took our time to eat and enjoy everything because it was so delicious, you just had to savor the food. If I had to recommend something though is to ask the server to bring out the waffles towards the end of your meal if you want to save it as a "brunch dessert" because if it's left out for too long it gets a bit soft. However, everything was overall amazing and I would definitely come back! -
Mia’s 5-star review: I'm not sure if this place takes reservations, but if it does, be sure to make one! When I went there was a line because the food is SO delicious. Walking into the restaurant (for dinner service) it was a bit on the dimmer side, but so lively and the decor really brought the place together. The menu had so many different types of options, from delicious, fresh sashimi to mouth-watering, juicy meats. My friend and I decided to try a little bit of both. We started with the chef's omakase and it was all so good. The cuts were big and the fish was fresh and tender. Throughout the whole experience, the waitress was super kind and thoroughly described everything we were eating. Then, we had the famous stone-grilled meat and it was such a fun experience. I would highly recommend this set if you're planning to go here. THEN, we got the bowl and it was SO big and full. Definitely overordered but definitely worth it haha. And, to top it all off, we finished with the frozen green tea brulee. All in all, all of the entrees were so amazing and if there was any restaurant in the area, that I would go to for the rest of my life it would be this one. -
Mia’s 4-star review: I came here one evening with a friend and it was pretty fun! The inside of the cafe isn't huge but there's definitely multiple tables for you to come with your friends. They had so many fun bingsoo flavors, but we decided to get the classic matcha bingsoo. The girl working at the counter was super sweet and didn't take long to make our bingsoo considering that she was the only one working at the time. When it came out, it was SO big and we poured condensed milk on top (I recommend not using all of it at first as it might just flow off and onto the tray). The bingsoo itself was very light and delicious. It didn't stand out in anyway compared to other bingsoo spots, however, it was still pretty good! Wouldn't go out of my way for this spot, but if I was in the area I would love to come back! -
Mia’s 4-star review: I did not believe my friend before coming here that there would be an "unbelievable amount" (ironic) of gelato flavors, but there is. There's over 200 flavors and you can have anything you could imagine, from classic mint chocolate chip or vanilla to durian and balsamic vinegar. When we went, the place was fairly empty with 2-3 people working. There's a huge center area, with each side with rows of gelato. Sadly, there were no free tastings, so you just had to go off the name of the flavor (and man there are a lot). It may take you awhile to choose a flavor like me, but the staff are super patient. I ended up getting a double scoop. Overall, the flavor of the gelato is okay (I forgot which two I ended up getting). The gelato isn't really your classic gelato (I mean, I didn't expect OUT OF THIS WORLD gelato for a place with 238 flavors), and it tends to lean on the icier, sweeter side than the creamier side. However, it is still fun to check out if you're in the area! -
Mia’s 5-star review: Came here for brunch with friends and it was amazing! We were seated right after coming in, and service the whole time was so quick, kind, and easy to talk to. My friend and I couldn't tell whether this place was a fusion brunch place, or the exact cuisine, but we ended up getting the bulgogi steak n' egg and the pulled pork BBQ egg benedict to share. Both dishes were phenomenal. Although I expected to like the bulgogi steak n' egg more than the benedict, I would much more recommend someone the benedict. With the pulled pork, it takes such a unique twist with so much more flavor and the salad and potatoes complements the dish so well. On the other hand, the bulgogi steak n' egg was delicious, however, I wasn't the biggest fan of the kimchi (the seasoning was not quite right) and the dressing/sauces for the salad were 'meh'. But! I would definitely come again to try other dishes. -
Mia’s 1-star review: I went here with a friend one evening, when it was fairly slow (when we arrived there was only one other person there, waiting for their drinks). We got to the counter to order and waited for ~5 minutes. There was only one person behind the counter working. He saw us standing there and even after trying to get his attention MULTIPLE TIMES by saying 'hi', he just stared at us and ignored us. We were super confused and after seeing delivery drivers come into the store and pick up orders, we ultimately decided to order online. We got two matcha drinks with different toppings. Service was a bit slow too, but we didn't mind much as we just talked with each other. When the drinks were finally finished, the barista didn't even call out the name, drinks, or anything. Just put them on the counter and walked away. We didn't know as to whether they were our drinks or not, but after he decided to not answer to us, we just took them because it's what we ordered. The drinks themselves were alright--a bit on the more sour, yogurt side. Overall, I would not come back here as the service felt so disrespectful. (Oh, but the inside of the shop is pretty cute and good for pictures!) -
Mia’s 5-star review: I originally intended to come here for brunch with friends but accidentally ended up going to HH as we woke up late haha. Although it looks a bit small on the outside, it actually decently big on the inside with both inside and outside seating. My friends and I ordered a couple things from their HH menu (in my picture) and they were all delicious. My favorite were the wings and pizza, but I would honestly recommend them all. Although I didn't get any drinks, my friends got some lattes that they said were pretty good. Service here was also amazing, super quick, and very sweet. Would definitely come back. -
Mia’s 5-star review: My first experience at a Cactus Club was here (I'm from the States haha) and it was so fun. I came here with one other friend and we got a booth in the corner, but I loved the spot. We came during HH so the lights were dim and it was lively but because of that, we really only tried their HH menu. All of their drinks are delicious, but if I had to recommend one, try their bellini (especially if you like sweet alcoholic drinks). Their truffle fries are also a staple and so delicious and nice to snack on while drinking. Service is a bit slow, but they're super nice! Ever since, I've gone to a number of other locations and everything is alway pretty much the same! -
Mia’s 4-star review: Came here with a friend one evening and it was a very chill a nice experience. The inside of the shop is a bit small and there was only one person working, so the bingsoo took a bit to get after ordering (and you might be waiting in a line for a seat if the shop is busy). However, the worker was very nice. There are quite a few different bingsoo options, but my friend and I got the matcha one. The serving size is pretty big, so definitely share if you're going to get one! Overall, the bingsoo was alright. It wasn't the best I've had but it was still not bad! -
Mia’s 5-star review: I came here for the second time to try a couple different menu items and even their pastries! This time I ordered their basil pesto rigatoni and my friend ordered a bacon platter. Both dishes were so delicious once again. I was also surprised by the pastries! We had gotten them for a flight later in the day and despite not eating them right away (or even the day after) they were still amazing and not too sweet. The only thing I wasn't the biggest fan of was their matcha lattes which I thought was okay, but I would love to try their other drinks! Would definitely come back -
Mia’s 4-star review: When I was visiting Canada, my friend took me here saying that it was a must-go-to in Vancouver. When we walked in, it was fairly later in the evening and the line wasn't very long which was nice. Staff was super friendly and let us sample as many options as we want. It was such an experience to try out the flavors, as they had so many unique one's I've never heard of before. In the end, I got a whiskey hazelnut and my friend got a London fog. It was a bit sad that there wasn't any inside seating, so we had to go outside in the cold to enjoy our ice cream (we ended up just sitting in our car). But, the ice cream was delicious--super creamy but not overwhelming in sweetness. Would definitely love to come back to try other flavors! :) -
Mia’s 5-star review: After walking around the waterfront a bit, my friend and I were super hungry and decided to check this place out after seeing nice pictures of it on Yelp. The hostess was SUPER nice and friendly, acknowledging us from the moment we came in and apologizing for being busy (we didn't even mind). She then gave us a window table at our request, saying how we were lucky as there was only one more seat haha. Even our waiter was really friendly and easy to talk to. Love love loved the service here. We got a couple drinks and a salad and pasta to share. It was a bit pricer but very good. And watching the sunset as we were dining was an amazing experience. If I'm in the area again, I would definitely come back to this place. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a nicer dining experience at the waterfront! -
Mia’s 5-star review: Came here with a friend around 3 pm, and it was pretty quiet and slow, but it was still a nice experience. :) Service was very friendly and attentive throughout the whole dining experience. We continually got our water refilled and checked up on, and even though my friend and I stayed there for quite a long while chatting, they were still very friendly and nice. We got two items and honestly, the portions were so big, it was more than filling. Great value for the price! The restaurant itself was fairly small but very comfortable. The decor was simple and cute and the bathrooms were very clean. I think this is a great place if you're craving some sushi for lunch! -
Mia’s 5-star review: When I came here, I got one initially, but it was so good, I decided to get some to-go for friends! The cheese egg tart I got was sweet, light and creamy. I wish they also served drinks here as it would've complimented the desserts so well and made it much more enjoyable. Service is nice and the inside of the store is really simple and pretty too! Haven't gotten the chance to try the cheesecake but I would love to sometime. :) -
Mia’s 4-star review: Came here with a friend for a dessert and it was decently nice! Nothing crazy, but definitely pretty unique in comparison to what other places offer. It's not your typical shaved iced place as there typically aren't fruity syrups and it isn't super sweet--instead it's more natural and lighter! I forgot which one my friend and I ordered, but I included a picture below (plus, they're all pretty similar, just different amounts of toppings haha). I loved the red bean and grass jelly here, but I feel like the more tapioca based toppings are okay (the amount of boba they have on a dessert is overwhelming for me, but I know others really like it!!). The prices are pretty reasonable for what you're getting and service is alright. I would definitely come back here for a casual hangout with a friend. -
Mia’s 5-star review: Walking in, we came at a slower time so service was very quick and they were very nice. My friend and I got a half & half chicken to share and it was delicious. The chicken was soft on the inside and very crispy on the outside and the sauce was AMAZING. Super flavorful but not overwhelming in any direction. I loved the decor inside and the way the tables were arranged allowed for private conversation which was really nice. My friend and I spent 1-2 hours here catching up and we didn't feel like we were rushed at all. Service and food were amazing. Would definitely recommend coming here (plus, it's open late too!) -
Mia’s 4-star review: Walking into this small drink shop, it is so cute. The decor was very natural and simple, and felt like one of those cute shops in Asia. For the size of the shop, it was relatively busy. There wasn't much seating inside at all, except for seating to wait, but as my friends and I were planning to go somewhere after, it didn't matter. I was a bit disappointed because when I went, so many of their flavors were sold out. So in the end, I got what sounded the best out of what they had left but it isn't something I typically go for. As I wanted the bottle, I paid around $10 for the drink--which was a lot for the size. AND, I was really disappointed because I found out that the bottle was just made out of plastic with a sticker. If I had known that beforehand, I wouldn't have gotten it. The drink itself was good. I don't think it was worth the price but it wasn't bad. I don't think I would come back if I wanted boba as I would go to a better, more affordable place, but I could understand if you really liked this. -
Mia’s 5-star review: If you are craving a Korean corn dog, this place is never disappointing. My friends and I came here for a late night snack and thankfully there wasn't a long wait (although sometimes you may encounter one!). They have so many options for just $7 and they are VERY filling. We ordered two corndogs and waited outside for our order. The service was super quick and we waited around 7 minutes for our corn dogs to be done and when we got them, they were still piping hot and crunchy. You also get the option to have sugar on them too, which (although it may sound weird) is surprisingly good! You could definitely share the corn dogs as they are so big but I totally get it if you don't want to either haha.
