Julia’s 4-star review: This place is one of my faves because: 1. I live about 2 blocks away :) 2. Take-out is a breeeeeze, and totally speedy 3. It's pretty much the best burger place in the Richmond It's also been around forever, the staff is friendly, and dining in is definitely an interesting experience (random super-fancy chandeliers, anyone?) Their burgers are juicy and they have a wild selection of crazy burgers to try if you're feeling gusty. Their onion rings are by far my favorite thing on their menu! -
Julia’s 5-star review: Just had to update because seriously, Aqua spa is my favorite nail spot in SF. I've been trying out different places (White Ginger, Recharge, this place on Sacramento) and none of them have given me as good of service or experience as Aqua. I am NEVER disappointed when I come here. It is always clean, always peaceful, and they always do great work. I don't think I'll be trying out any other nail spots-- this place is my home. -
Julia’s 4-star review: Another one of my neighborhood faves :) I'd say my boy-friend frequents this place twice as often as I do, at least, and being as picky as he is, that is saying something. I love so many things here. The coffee is great, the food amazing. Some of my favorites: the bean salad, the chicken parm, the white cheddar chicken sandwich (with grilled onions!), the baked mac n cheese... good god, it's ridiculous. And the tea cookies are to die for-- we always have to pick up a few. This spot can get pretty crowded on sunny weekends, and you'll have a tough time pushing past the tied-up puppies and strollers that seem to be crammed into every corner of sidewalk space available, but if you want to get food to go, it's so worth it. -
Julia’s 3-star review: So, I was pretty pumped back in June when I moved into the neighborhood, just a block and-a-half away from Gordo's! I'd been going to the one on 9th and Irving since I moved to SF and lived on the south side of the park, and it has ALWAYS been my favorite burrito place, (especially because of their delicious hot sauce!) That said, this one, for whatever reason, just ISN'T as good. They always seem to scrimp more here, and the meat isn't always... perfect. I dunno what it is, but here's what I do know: when I went to the Gordo's on 9th and Irving, I would pretty much ALWAYS have the best burrito of my life... the Gordo's on 24th and Clement? It's hit or miss, and you can never be sure which way it's gonna go. -
Julia’s 5-star review: I should have reviewed this place like 3 times already, and about 2 years ago, when I used to religiously take my Toyota Celica to them, but I always say better late than never! These guys are the best, hands down. They are quite possibly the most honest dudes in the city. I took my celica here when it started having major problems because my boy-friend (an SF native) recommended it-- his family (all SF natives) have been coming to the Toy Shop since forever, apparently. Anytime I come in, they are friendly and answer all my questions-- they always make sure to call you with updates on your car, too, which I love. I know they have helped me out on several occasions, too, more than they were required to. Aside from a personal mechanic friend, we don't take our car anywhere else. I'm taking our camry in tomorrow to get the brakes done, in fact! -
Julia’s 5-star review: This is THE place my boy-friend and I take our cars, because a friend of ours (who owns an auto body shop!) referred us as someone who doesn't take their car anywhere else. Ed is the nicest, most honest guy. He runs the shop and is always there as a point of contact. He follows up and calls you back when he says he will and explains things honestly-- he'll even tell you what your options really are if you're on a budget. We recently had to tow our car here to get a battery replacement. When they replaced the battery however, the factory alarm on the car was reset and the car became disabled-- so we had to tow it back. But Ed was great-- they fixed it IMMEDIATELY, didn't charge us anything, apologized profusely for the fact that we had to tow it again, and then DELIVERED it to me at my work. I love this place and know I won't be taken advantage of here :) -
Julia’s 4-star review: My boy-friend and I came here last night for our special date night and we could not have had a better time! When we arrived around 9ish, it was pretty crowded in the lobby area-- it seemed like a long wait. We just wanted to have cocktails and enjoy the Friday Night Jazz (from 9 p.m. onwards) and we were told we would be seated in 15-20-- and we actually were, which was impressive! The ambiance is beautiful in this bar-- it's sleek, modern but in a classic, not trendy way (this joint has been around for a long time!) The best part is obviously the 360 degree view of the city, but even the inside of Top of the Mark creates a wonderful atmosphere to be savored and enjoyed. The energy and the crowd was great-- totally unpretentious! Last night there was some sort of wedding or engagement party, so people were really getting down on the dance floor to the live band, which was a blast to watch and made getting out there ourselves totally do-able! On top of the great live music (a 6-piece jazz band with an incredible duo of lead singers!) the service was friendly and speedy, especially considering how many people were there that night. We were so pleased. We danced, we drank, and we'd go back again-- of course, not too often considering we spent about $75 bucks on 3 drinks and a shared dessert (not to mention the $10 per person cover charge). But for a nice or special occasion, it is absolutely worth it! Loved it! -
Julia’s 2-star review: I must begin by stating that I did NOT end up eating here. But I felt my experience should at least be shared. Ernesto's is a block from our apartment, and friends have always told me this place is great! Home-style, delicious Italian. So last Friday night my boy-friend and I decided to finally try this place (seeing as we eat at all it's neighboring restaurants and live 1 block away, it seemed crazy that we'd never tried this place in the 7 months we've lived here!) When we arrived it was around 6:30 and the place was PACKED. We gave our information to one of the waiter's and sat down to wait. Because Ernesto's is so cozy, there is absolutely no privacy-- as a result of the close-quarters, we began to notice that the seated diners seemed pretty perturbed. The couple seated in what appeared to be the worst seat in the house (right next to the drafty door, as well as just feet from the "waiting area") couldn't get their check, and we watched as they tried to flag someone, anyone down, to pay their bill for nearly 5 minutes. At the other tables we noticed noone had anything but bread, and there was only 1 server manning the entire place, which was packed. The bf and I finally decided to go somewhere else when we female patron cried, sounding completely exasperated, "Can I just get my freakin food already?" A gentleman at her table then proceeded to stand up and handle the situation, at which point we decided that even if we ever DID get seated (a larger party of 5 who came in after us was seated first) it would be so long before we actually ate that we knew the experience wouldn't be enjoyable. So, after about 10 minutes of enjoying the rambunctiously crowded room (apparently this is a popular place for children, and lots of them!) we bounced over to Hard Knock's, just down the street on 27th and Clement. They never do us wrong, there!
