Yan’s 4-star review: The Food Kirin was a dim sum restaurant I got to visit during my time in Vancouver. Went there with a bunch of friends and got to try out a good amount of food. We ordered your basic dim sum items including Har Gow (蝦餃), Shiu Mai (燒賣), Lo Mai Gai (糯米雞), etc. But we also ordered some of their special dishes like noodle and tofu. All the dishes were fresh and delicious. You know the Lo Mai Gai is freshly made when it falls off the lotus leaves without sticking to it. I also quite enjoy some of the special dishes I usually don't get in other dim sum places. The Miscellaneous The restaurant is on the 2nd floor right off of a parking garage. The inside is quite big and spacious, it can fit quite a bit of people for large parties. The interior is also well decorated and clean. Their service is pretty normal and typical for a dim sum restaurant. The staff employees are well dressed and try to cover all the tables. Their menu have quite a bit of selection even if you only consider their dim sum menu. Along with the standard dim sum dishes, there was also a Special of the Month menu. Prices were average for an upscale restaurant, but the quality is there. Would recommend checking out if you are looking for fresh dim sum...a reservation would also be wise. -

Yan’s 4-star review: The Food Saku is an interesting restaurant, and also the last stop in Vancouver...for now at least. Tonkatsu seemed to be the main focus so that's what we ordered. I got the Hire Katsu which is deep fried breaded pork fillet. Every katsu set also comes with unlimited rice, tonjiru, and shredded cabbage. The Hire Katsu is very well done, it is nicely breaded and not heave, goes well with the dipping. The rice, tonjiru, and cabbage were also very good. I am very interested in coming back to try their other selections. The Miscellaneous The restaurant is on the smaller side, so limited seating. It gets quite crowded during peak hours, so expect some wait time. The interior is very clean and good atmosphere. Their service was excellent, the staff was sincere and courteous throughout the meal. The menu is quite simple and straightforward, with other dishes besides katsu. The pricing is also not unreasonable for the quality of the food and experience. It is definitely worth a visit if you are craving Japanese food.

Yan’s 4-star review: The Food As the Vancouver Japanese food adventure continues, we're hitting up Raisu for dinner. We ordered a variety of dishes to share. - Deluxe Seafood Bowl - Sashimi Platter - Snow Crab and Uni Cream Udon - Sizzling Stone Beef Steak Hitsumabushi - Chicken Karaage - Agedashi Tofu with Mushroom Sauce The Deluxe Seafood Bowl looked very good and the sashimi were very fresh. Snow Crab and Uni Cream Udon came in a giant bowl, but the actual food took up like 20% of the space. The dish was good though, with a creamy broth. The Sizzling Stone Beef Steak Hitsumabushi had good flavor with the beef, herb and spices. Chicken Karaage and Agedashi Tofu were nice side addon to the meal. On a sad note, they have special bentos with limited quantity daily we didn't get to try, need to reserve ahead. The Miscellaneous Raisu has a decent sized space, with a main dining area, a bar, and a indoor patio with kotatsu. Though even with the ample amount of seating, the place can still get packed during peak hours. The service was normal, this was also the same with the staffs, nothing out of the ordinary. They have quite the menu, or menus. It was a variety of food choices, but spread across different menus. The food was good, though the prices were a bit high, it was still worth the visit for the unique experience. -
Yan’s 4-star review: The Food Another round of Vancouver means another round of Japanese food. This time we got a chance to hit Kokoro Tokyo Mazesoba. Of course for first time visit, I ordered the Zenbu Mazesoba. It is a Chef special on the menu and comes with everything. The bowl came with an abundant of ingredients on top of the house made noodle. The dish was very good, the topping had good flavor and the noodles had good texture. The restaurant menu focused on mazesoba, but they also have ramen and tapas I want to try. I also had to get their Hokkaido soft serve ice cream because it looked and tasted delicious. The Miscellaneous The restaurant itself was quite roomy with plenty of seating along with a bar seats. Though that doesn't change the fact that it still gets quite crowded during peak hours. Luckily they have a separate dessert line for ice cream if you want grab and go ice cream. The service and staff was very good and sincere. After taking the order, food arrived within a reasonable time. The menu has a good selection of dishes, and the prices are not unreasonable. It was worth a visit, and would like to return here sometime to try out their other dishes. -
