Issabelle’s 5-star review: I've come to The Parlour enough times to safely say it well deserves the 5-stars. I LOVE pizza. Pizza is my shiz. I'd like to think that I'm a pizza-know-it-all. If I won a contest, I'd be ecstatic if pizza was the reward. You get it, I'm obsessed. So, the fact that The Parlour serves up some of the best pizza in town means I visit this spot on the reg. No shame. What is so great about The Parlour? Well, I'm happy to tell you: 1) Obviously their delicious pizza. I'm not sure what the chefs do to their pizza, but it's simply amazing.They have about 10-12 different flavours, which let me tell you, are all very difficult to choose from. My go-to faves are The Big Prawn (pesto shrimp) and Goldmember (potatoes, truffle and mushroom). One of the perks about this place is that for a $2 charge you can half and half your pizza so that you can try 2 different flavours. It definitely helps with narrowing down your decision. I've also tried their Standard, Hamilton Street, Swag and The Roasted, which were all extremely yummy. 2) Their warm ambiance. The restaurant itself is really cool -- wooden walls, photos of music legends hung up on the walls, big inviting bar, plenty of tables. I'm always surprised at how big this place actually is when I walk in. They also have a great sound system which is great for those Yaletown weekends. 3) Service. I have never once had bad service here. The bartenders, servers and even the hostesses are friendly, friendly, authentic and genuinely seem happy to be there. 4) I got to take it back to the pizza. It's just that good. I'm in love. Pizza prices are a tad bit expensive ($21 for one), but they are decently sized and are fantastic quality. I will always find an excuse to come here and I will always leave with a happy belly. If you haven't had the chance to check out The Parlour yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! Get here ASAP. -
Issabelle’s 5-star review: All I need to be happy in life is pizza and wine, and that is exactly what I got last night when I came to Virtuous Pie. Stopped in here with some fellow Yelpers and grabbed a seat at one of their long tables by the door. The tables are set up picnic/communal style, so if you're planning on staying here for dinner then be ready to share part of your table. The atmosphere itself is clean, hip, and cool. You have to make your way to the back to order and then pick it up at the other end close to the entrance. At the back they have a huge menu that takes over the whole back wall, so you can easily see the selections before you order. They've got salads which rotate flavours, about 10 different pizza flavours, a small drink selection, and (vegan) ice cream. As your lining up you get to watch all the pizza-chefs cook up a storm and create your delicious 'za. I was chatting away with some of them and they were saying that on an average day they create more than 200 pizzas. WOW. Let's talk about their pizzas though, because DAMN are they good. You would never guess that these faux-dough wonders were vegan, they were that good. Not saying that vegan dishes aren't tasty (because they are!), you just wouldn't expect it to taste exactly like a regular pizza. I decided to go with the Los Tacos which had crumbled chipotle, corn, black beans and avocado lime drizzle. I was able to trade a few slices and also tasted the Margherita, Fennel + Sausage, and Stranger Wings, which were all delicious. On my next trip I'll definitely be trying out the Curry Mile and Ultraviolet though. The Los Tacos was just so good. I loved it so much that I bought my brother the same pizza so I could have a slice later that night! For dessert we shared 2 flights of their ice cream splitting the peanut butter cookie dough, turmeric + black pepper, coffee + donuts, and mint + dark chocolate. My personal favourite was the coffee + donuts because coffee ice cream is my favourite, with the peanut buter cookie dough coming in at a close second. The turmeric + black pepper was interesting, and not my personal favourite, but I'm glad I was able to try it. They also sell their ice cream in pints, if you're interested in buying in bulk ;) For a Monday night, they were packed and had a continuous line going, so I can only imagine what it's like on weekend evenings. I've only ever been on weekday nights or late afternoons and have always been able to grab a seat. I do also have to point out the superb service we received. Even though there wasn't waiter service, everyone from the ladies who took our order to the chefs firing up our 'zas were friendly and very kind, which I was very impressed with especially how busy it was. I love Virtuous Pizza and I'm happy I don't live close to it or else I'd be here more than I already am! -
Issabelle’s 5-star review: 5 stars for my favourite ice cream spot in town. Friendly service, tons of creative and tasty flavours, and overall just some damn good ice cream. A few personal favourites? London fog, cookies and creme, whiskey hazelnut and the Tahitian vanilla. 9/10 of the times I come to Earnest I'm usually getting the London fog. What can I say? I'm addicted. I love the ambiance of ice cream shops. There's just something about them that makes them such a happy place. I mean, you're never really in a bad mood when you're coming to get ice cream right? So everyone who usually comes through are happy and excited. This location is probably the biggest out of all of them and the most central, so as a result it tends to be the busiest. I usually take my ice cream to go though, so that doesn't really bug me. They also carry pints if you're looking for something that will last a wee bit longer. I heart you, Earnest. -
Issabelle’s 5-star review: Honestly, this spot is one of my favourites in all of Vancouver for a few reasons: 1. Their cool AF building - The Belgard Kitchen is located within The Settlement Building that also has Vancouver Urban Winery and Postmark Brewing. What. A. Lineup. Three of my fave Vancouver local businesses under one roof? Uber convenient. This building used to be a steel factory back during World War II and previously was used as a furniture store, an underground "club" and now a lifestyle business. This whole place is Insta-worthy and has me snapping photos the minute I walk through the door. If you get a chance to sit upstairs with a large party, I'd highly recommend it... beautiful greenery, high ceilings and string lights. Ugh, y'all know how I feel about string lights. 2. Their food. Currently drooling just thinking about it. Their menu is set up family style. The farther down the menu you go, the bigger the portions - so I was told. My faves? The yam gnocchi w/ lamb, the coppa cabana pizette (quite possibly one of the best pizza's I've had), and their grilled cheese sticks w/ tomato soup. Cue more drool. 3. Their drinks. A winery AND brewery? Oh god, I'm in heaven. They have 34 wines on tap... yup, you read that right... ON TAP. Fresh AF. Their rose and clos du solei are probably my top 2 wines. As for beers, I'm a huge fan of any of their IPAs. They come out with quite a few seasonal options, so all the more reason to visit them more often. 4. Their staff. Shoutout to their wonderful bartenders, servers, and staff who make sure to treat you right at home. Love love love this place. Whether it's for an event, brunch, dinner, or a quick drink, you just can't go wrong here. -
Issabelle’s 4-star review: I have a soft spot for 33 Acres. Maybe it's because they have good beer. Maybe it's because they have tasty food. Maybe it's because they have a tight-knit community vibe. Maybe it's because they're just freakin' awesome. I came to 33 Acres mid Vancouver Mural festival, but it seemed like a quarter of the festival had the same idea because it was PACKED. Luckily the line to get in moved really quickly. There was an usher/host at the door (with a rather cool swirly moustache), who guided guests on when they could come in (capacity reasons) and he let us know that the wait wouldn't be too long. Not even 5 minutes later we were able to go inside and order our drinks. In recent months my beer pallet has switched from lagers to IPAs. I'm so happy I made the switch because IPAs are 33 Acres shiz. My group of 3 all ordered the 33 Nirvana (grapefruit, candied orange, IPA). Their Nirvana is fairly popular because of the crisp fruity flavour. Their beer menu consists of different varieties - pale ales, lagers, ISAs and IPAs, a few of my favourites being their Nu (kolsch IPA), Euphoria (Belgian Tripel), and Nirvana (IPA). If you want some grub with your beer, they also serve up pub style food. I'm personally a fan of their brunch selection. Their avocado smash, muy caliente, and loaded biscuits are the bomb.com. From their "all day" menu, their cheese board, mezzi platter, and kettle chips + dip are a constant favourite. Their mac and cheese from their late night menu is also an Issabelle fave. What I'm saying is, there is something good from all their menus. The big winner here is that on Thursdays they have a taco special - 3 tacos for $10. I personally haven't been here on Taco Thursdays, but it's definitely on my list! 33 Acres open concept and community tables make it easy to strike up a conversation with your neighbors and make new friends while enjoying a drink. So don't be shy and say hi to someone next to you! They also have really cool apparel that I'm sure I'll buy next time I'm in. #B33R -
Issabelle’s 5-star review: 5 stars for good vibes, good beer, and good grilled cheeses. I'm a huge fan of this new little addition to Mount Pleasant. This spot has only been open for a month now and has been bumpin' and busy from the start. Good for them! The decor is bright and colourful, with a bit of a 90's retro bar twist. There's a huge flower wall (perfect for that Insta photo), their menu is posted up on Coca Cola menu boards, their register is a donkey kong gaming machine, and their furniture is funky. I'm alllll about it. I've come on three separate occasions in a week now - so I mean, yeah, you could say I like their beer. I've tried all of them on their menu now, and my favourites are by far the Aloha Amigo (pineapple radler) and the Beet Juice Ale - two very different beers that I haven't tried at another brewery yet. Their food menu is small and consists of 4 different grilled cheeses. I just have to say, I love me some grilled cheese. So when I saw this on their menu, I was very excited. I've tried both their Standard and Cubano. And I'm such a huge fan of their Cubano - it's a portugese bun, with ham, cheese, peppers, and mustard - so delicious! The place itself is fairly small and the music is fairly loud - which I don't have a problem with, but I could see others having an issue with. I only see great things for Electric Bicycle and can't wait to see what other beers they come out with! -
Issabelle’s 5-star review: I personally don't think there's nothing bad to be said about the Alibi Room. It's one of my favourite spots to grab a beer and relax. Located a few blocks from the heart of Gastown, this central hub becomes a hot spot most evenings, so I'd definitely recommend trying to get there as early as you can. There are two reasons why this place is bumpin' most evenings of the week and that is good beer and a fun environment. It's got an industrial warehouse feel with really cool and hip decor. Beware the lighting is pretty dim so if you're visiting during the later hours of the day, it can be pretty hard to read the menu. Cue your phone light. The food menu is pretty sparse, consisting of a few classic bar snacks and then a separate entree menu. I've never actually tried anything from their entree menu, but they have all looked delicious when they come out. Bar snacks, on the other hand, are super tasty! Salted edamame beans... delish! Service? Some of the best in town! Every time I've come here the service has been fairly quick (for being how busy it is) and awesome. All my servers have been extremely helpful, laid-back and kind. This is definitely a must add to your list of bars to check out when visiting Vancity. -
Issabelle’s 5-star review: #500 goes out to one of my favourite breweries in Vancity. I'm just going to bullet point a few of my favourite things: + Their creative branding. I mean, just look at their beer labels. They're so well designed, funky, and out there. Kudos to the artist who designs all their labels. Even their beer names are cool. + Their beer. I usually switch between their Filthy Dirty IPA and Trash Panda Hazy IPA. Before I switched to IPAs, I drank quite a bit of their Ruby Tears Red Ale. They also come up with really great seasonals, so keep an eye out at your local liqour stores or visit the brewery to get your hands on one of them. They once had an Imperial White IPA that I LOVED. P49, if you could bring that back, that would be a dreaaaam. + Their street kitchen. This is a nice recent little addition to the brewery, but has quickly become one of my favourite parts about visiting P49. When I'm brewery hopping around Mount Pleasant/East Van, I always make sure to end at P49 because they have the best food out of all the breweries in this area, in my opinion. A couple of my faves: hawaiian jackfruit taco, crispy cod taco, pesto mac and cheese, sweet and spicy chicken wings, korean fried broccoli, and spicy crispy chicken sandwich. Realistically you can get anything from their menu and leave with a happy belly. I got some serious love for you, Parallel 49. Thanks for the good vibes, good beers, and good food. -
Issabelle’s 5-star review: Every part of The Shameful Tiki Room is rad. From the awesome interior decor to the deliciously, strong drinks, this place needs to make it on everybody's "Must See In Vancouver" list. Right when you open the door, you'll go through a heavy set of black curtains. Once past those curtains, it is almost as if you have been transported to another land. The interior is decorated from head to toe in tiki and tropical decorations and the only source of light in the place is the from the tiki lamps that are hanging from the ceiling. The real kicker here is their drink menu. If you're looking for a place to feel buzzed after one drink, come here. Their drink menu is extensive, with anything from rum, whiskey, or vodka based cocktails. They also let you know how strong your drink will be with little cocktail symbols ranging from 1-4, 1 being the weakest and 4 being the strongest. I got a Mai Tai and the Pain Killer, and both were delicious! The Mai Tai was definitely on the stronger end, but I'm definitely not complaining. The Pain Killer was a sweet, nice touch to end the night. My boyfriend and I also got the Mystery Bowl for two and that in itself is a whole experience. When they deliver the drink to your table they ring a gong and all the staff chant "Myssssterrryyyy Booowwwlll". Since we were consuming quite a few alcoholic drinks, we decided we should put some grub in our bellies. We got a large serving of their nachos (with added guac and chicken of course) and an order of their veggie samosas. These nachos were some of the best I've had. They load up the toppings and layer them in between the chips, which this girl appreciates. PSA: Everyone go to The Shameful Tiki Room. Just do it and thank me later. -

Issabelle’s 5-star review: I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a reviews for Heirloom. I love this cute little vegetarian hot spot. Convenient location, but not much parking around. If you're lucky you can find street parking close by or park in one of the surrounding plazas and then walk over. The restaurant itself is beautiful. High ceilings, light interior, white brick, plenty of seating options. Heirloom has a great, almost peaceful ambiance the moment you walk in. I've come here on quite a few occasions, mostly for brunch. After 2 they serve an all-day menu which is loaded with filling options. For brunch, I'm a fan of their avocado benny and their breakfast hash. For lunch, I can't even name a top 3. Everything I've tried has been so delicious. All their salads are delicious, huge, and SO filling. If you don't have a large appetite, I'd get a small, since their serving sizes are pretty generous. Their grilled cheese and veggie tacos are also SO delicious. I'd highly recommend. I recently tried their Korean Fried Cauliflower and it had to be one of my favourite dishes that I've tried on their menu. I'll definitely be ordering that again the next time I'm in! Everything on their menu are foods that my "vegetarian" self would love to cook up. Heirloom, please give me your recipes!! Every time I've come in, service has been excellent. It's also quite easy to get a reservation if you want to come in for weekend brunch. Great spot for a brunch or lunch date and to satisfy your veggie craving. Will always be a top spot on my list! -

Issabelle’s 5-star review: I'm obsessed with 49th Parallel. They are a staple in the Vancouver coffee + cafe scene. There are a good portion of coffee shops and even restaurants in the city that carry their coffee, so you know they're doing something right. Since I'm not drinking coffee as much anymore, I got a london fog on my most recent trip here, just like their coffee, their london fog was delicious. They also have their famous Lucky's doughnuts at this location, to pair with your choice of caffeine. One thing I love about the 49th Parallel standalone stores is how the decoration and aesthetic represent the neighbourhood they are in. In comparison to their Main St. location which has more rustic, dark furniture, this spot has bright furniture and plenty of light from the windows. Service is always kind and efficient, which is always appreciated bright and early in the morning. Props to you 49th Parallel, I'm a loyal fan. -
Issabelle’s 5-star review: It's been over a year and a half since I wrote my review on Jam and since then I've still loved coming here. I take all my friends from out of town here. I wait in the lines just so I can have their candied bacon garnished caesar and amazingly delicious, food coma-worthy charlie bowl. I don't care if you think the line is stupid or if you think this is over-rated, I just love Jam so freaking much. A few notes since my last review: + They have now opened up a new location in Kitsilano. + Their candied bacon is still the best bacon in the city. + Their eggs benedict, chicken and french toast, and pancakes are also winners in my book. + They have lunch features that are great as well - I'd recommend the mac n cheese grilled cheese, the king chicken sandwich, or the buffalo blue sandwich. If you're looking for something lighter then, the big jam salad is the bomb.com! + Service is always spectacular - shout out to the wonderful servers who get people in and out quickly with never making us feel rushed. I think I am officially in a relationship with this brunch hot spot. They have my heart forever. -
Issabelle’s 5-star review: GIMME ALL THE OYSTERS, GIMME 'EM. I've been to Fanny Bay before, but this review is in reference to my latest experience over the weekend. I had a bunch of friends visiting from out of town over the weekend and we were on a mission to eat all the seafood in Vancouver, no joke. This is where Fanny Bay comes in. We grabbed a seat at one of the long high top tables right by the bar and started ordering. This is where it gets great. We started off by getting caesars for the table. This was the first time my American friends had ever tried a caesar, and right away they were a huge fan. I love Fanny Bay caesars because it's garnished with an oyster at the top. I mean, can it get any better than that? Okay so for food... I just have to say I feel like we ordered the whole menu because food just kept coming. Okay, so things we ordered: + Seafood charcuterie + Clam chowder + Scallops & Pork Belly + Geoduck sashimi + Alllll the oysters In retrospect, there weren't that many dishes we ordered, but it felt like we were eating allll the things at the time. Everything that we ate was SO good. The oysters were by far my favourite because of how fresh and delicious everything tasted. I usually love putting lemon and tobasco on top but we were advised to eat them plain to appreciate how they really taste. So, that's exactly what we did. I can't even remember all of the oysters that we got, but I was a fan of all of them. I would love to come back here for a seafood filled brunch. It's on my list for next time! -

Issabelle’s 5-star review: My favourite tourist/local spot! Rain or shine the sea wall is beautiful. It's my favourite spot in the city to appreciate the Vancouver scenery. On a sunny day, the wall is packed with runners, bikers, and anyone out for a casual stroll taking in the views. On a rainy day, it's a great place to storm watch (if it's not closed for severe storms). You'll see people of all ages here. There are also plenty of beaches, pools, playgrounds and stores along the way if you need a break. Definitely a summer must see! -
Issabelle’s 5-star review: Ah, my favourite place in all of Vancouver. I've already expressed my love for Granville Island itself, but my real love, my #1, my heart... it belongs to GI Public Market. This is the spot that I bring every single person who visits me. Why? It's a market unlike any other I've ever seen and you can find almost everything you need from here. Where do I even begin? The market is packed with so many different vendors. Food, drink, jewelry, handmade crafts, and so much more. You can spend a full day here and still not have tried everything. Expect the market to be packed and busy at all times, especially during the summer time. My ideal afternoon would start by grabbing lunch from one of the many vendors - most likely a lox bagel from Siegel's Bagels, macarons from Bon Macaron, and an iced almond milk latte from Off The Tracks. I'd take all of these goodies and grab a seat outside that overlooked the beautiful view of downtown Vancouver. One of my favourite things is enjoying a snack and listening to the live music in the main entertainment square right outside the market. The only downside would have to be the parking. I usually come when it's least busiest during the weekdays, so I've never really had problems finding parking then. But come the weekend, during the summer, your best bet is just to take water taxi from downtown. It's not a trip to Vancouver, unless you visit Granville Island Market.
