Issabelle’s 5-star review: If you read my Belgard Kitchen review, then you already know how much I love The Settlement Building + Vancouver Urban Winery. I'll keep this short and sweet since I went into detail in my other review, but let me just start by saying that they have 34 different wines on tap. Yup. 34. I mean, can your wine get any more fresh? Yes, probably, but that's besides the point. You can also get wine flights to sample and find your favourite one. You can buy bottles of their wine in-store and enjoy that bad boy at home or bring it to your next party to share (if that's your thing). As a person who is keen for design and detail, I love the labels and branding that the winery uses for their bottles - reminds me of a fancy chalkboard. I'm into it. Pair any of these wines with the food from Belgard and you have yourself a great evening out. Plus, the building alone is reason to visit. SO COOL. I'll be back for more wine very, very, soon! -
Issabelle’s 4-star review: I'm a huge fan of this place primarily because 1) I love wine and 2) I love cheese/charcuterie boards. So the fact that Salt Tasting Room specializes in both, makes this spot one of my favourites. It's located right in Blood Alley in Gastown, so if you don't know where to go, it's easy to get lost or walk right by. There's not really any signage outside other than a white salt shaker neon light, so keep that in mind when you come to visit. The service everytime I've come to visit has been top tier. The servers I've had are well educated on the menu and wines, which I always appreciate, because I tend to be indecisive when it comes to choosing good wines. Aside from the wines, they have a tapas style menu - so plenty of snacks and appetizers, as well as an assortment of charcuteries and cheese boards. You can pick between a pre-created board or you can build your own. While the pre-created boards are delicious, there's something so freeing about building your own, so I tend to go that route more often. You can mix and match 3 cheeses and 3 meats or get all meats and all cheeses, totally up to you! The one thing I do have to point out is that their portions are fairly small for what you're paying - yes, the quality is really good, but if you're sharing with 4+ people, the boards don't really fill you up. I'd recommend getting a board and splitting a bunch of different appies if you're looking for more of a filling meal. The place itself isn't very big, so on weekend evenings, they tend to fill up fairly quickly. But if you don't mind sitting next to people at the communal table, there is usually always room there. One of my fave spots in Gastown and I will definitely keep coming back. -

Issabelle’s 5-star review: I'm a softie when it comes to beautifully designed jewelry with special meaning. Pyrrha is one of my all-time favourite jewelry designers. In recent years they've started getting more international attention, but what is awesome is that they are based out of Vancouver! I've been on both the receiving and giving end of their pieces. I was obviously thrilled to receive a Pyrrha necklace as a gift, and my friend was just as happy to receive a necklace. Their talismans are carefully designed, each with a special message. They have an assortment of accessories -- necklaces, rings, bracelets, with their necklaces being their best seller. So there is a little something for everybody. If you're looking for a great gift for a girlfriend, daughter, niece, sister, etc, your guaranteed to find something special with Pyrrha.

Issabelle’s 5-star review: The Dirty Apron is AWESOME. I've come here on different occasions and each experience has been awesome: 1) I've come for a cooking class. Which, by the way, they have some of the best cooking classes in the city. I've tried both the Hawaiian Nights and the Mamma Mia (Italian cooking). Both were so much fun and well worth the money. The class is designed to be as much of a hands on experience as possible. For the first 30 minutes, the chef talks about what you'll be making and important safety reminders, and then after that they demostrate the first dish. After they show you, everybody goes to their stations and replicates it (with the help of the chefs walking around). After each course, you eat the meal in the dining room next to the kitchen and then once you're done, you come back to the kitchen to learn about the next dish you're cooking up. They do this for 3 different courses. This is such an awesome date night or team building activity and I'd highly recommend everyone try a class from here if means allow. By the end of the night, you feel like a gourmet chef (in training). 2) I've been here for brunch. I believe this changes on the daily or weekly, so I've never had the same thing twice here. I've come here twice for brunch and both times were great. It wasn't super busy the times I came, which were great since the space is pretty small. The food was delicious, high quality and filled me right up. 3) I've been here to pick up coffees to go. For this particular experience, I was waiting in line with friends at Jam and ran over here to grab a few pick me ups while we were waiting in line. Those couple almond milk lattes sure helped us while we were waiting. Overall, no matter what you're coming here for - a cooking class, brunch date, or coffee run, you're bound to have a great experience. -

Issabelle’s 4-star review: 3 reasons why I'm a fan of Fable Diner (not to be confused with Fable Restaurant in Kits - although owned by the same people). 1. They serve an awesome all day breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu. They've got a variety of options - sweet, savoury, you name it. While they call themselves a diner, I think their food is a bit more upscale than that, although still very decently priced. I recently had their west coast toast (basically avocado toast), and it was delicious! Their poutine, hash & eggs, and breakfast plate are all really great options as well. I've also had their chickpea veggie burger, which I was a really big fan of and would definitely order again. I've had a few bites of their fried chicken sandwich and grilled cheese as well, which both I'd order on my own. Needless to say, you can't go wrong with anything on their menu. 2. Their modern, upscale diner concept. Am I in a diner or a fancy restaurant? It's a bit of both. They've got that big diner-like bar right next to the kitchen, but also plenty of seating around the restaurant. Their decor is much more modern, bright, and "Insta-pic" worthy than most diners that I've been to. But hey, I'm not complaining - it's a beautiful restaurant. 3. Convenient location. Among the hustle and bustle of Busy Main St. this spot is easy to find just off of E Broadway and Main. You can easily get here by walking, car or transit. Fable Diner, I'm a fan.
