Issabelle’s 5-star review: I love The Locus so much that I came here twice in a span of 3 days. During my first visit, I only stayed for drinks. But after looking at their food menu I knew I needed to come back soon. I just so happened to be in the area over the weekend and saw that they were serving brunch, which led to my second visit. Both visits were so lovely. During my drinks visit, there were so many that caught my eye: the gin and ginger fizz, the pisco sour, and the flirtini all looked delicious and ultimately I decided on the gin and ginger fizz. This was the perfect cocktail to end my night. On my second trip, I got the seafood florentine benny. I was a huge fan! I'm on a salmon kick right now and am trying to eat as much salmon as I can, so this benny hit the spot perfectly. I also loved that the dish came with both hashbrowns and a fruit bowl. I usually order this as my side at other brunch spots, so it was great that this was already included. The service was also fantastic. Our server had great drink recommendations and the manager came around to chat with us and crack some jokes. 5-stars all around! I will definitely be adding The Locus to my weekend brunch rotation. Yum yum! -
Issabelle’s 5-star review: If you're craving authentic, neapolitan, Italian pizza, then visit Via Tevere. In the last month, I've gotten Via Tevere 3 times. This was the last place I dined out before I quarantined and since being quarantined, I've gotten take out twice. All three experiences were great. My dine in experience was fantastic. It was a Sunday evening. We were sat right away. Our server had great recommendations, plus she was friendly and efficient. Our drinks were never empty and the food came out very quickly. Between my friend and I we shared the Prosciutto e Rucola and the pasta special of the day: bolognese rigatoni. We loved both. The prosciutto on the pizza was cooked and then added to the pizza after, which was different than other prosciutto pizzas I've had in the past. Both dishes were the perfect amount for the two of us. My take out experience was also great. I was on the couch craving some 'za and instead of calling Dominos, I wanted to support local and remembered my fantastic dine in experience, so decided to call Via Tevere. I ordered the Quattro Formaggi and Prosciutto e Rucola and it still tasted warm and fresh by the time I got back to my place. Since this spot is located on Victoria, it's easy to get here via public transit or if you choose to drive there is plenty of parking along Victoria and Commercial. 5 stars across the board for Via Tevere. I can't wait to eat more delicious 'za soon! -

Issabelle’s 5-star review: Top 5 favourite restaurants in Vancouver. This is one of the restaurants that I take every out of town guest to, simply because their food is a MUST TRY. My favourites and absolute MUST orders remain the same (and I don't think they'll ever change): chicken wings, beef luc luc, and butter beef. Trust me. You don't need anything more than those three. I lied, you also need to get an order of white rice so that you can throw the beef luc luc and butter beef right on top. After 8+ years of coming here, I still haven't figured out what their wings are seasoned with. But, maybe this is a secret that I don't need to be revealed. Honestly, I could eat two orders of the chicken wings alone, if my arteries would allow, they're that good. Yes, there's always a wait. No, they don't take reservations. But, there's a reason why they've won numerous awards and are continuously voted one of the best restaurants in the city. It's worth the wait. My pro tip: throw your name on the list and then head to one of the cool cocktail bars close by, grab a quick beverage, and then head back. Cuts your "waiting" time at least in half. If you're from out of town, it's not a trip to Vancouver without visiting this hot spot. -

Issabelle’s 5-star review: I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review for Tuc Craft. I love me a good brunch, and this is what Tuc Craft does well. I'd give Tuc 5 stars alone just for their chicken and waffles. They're some of the best in the city. Dare I say the best...? This spot is located in the heart of Gastown and is easily accesible by skytrain (with the Waterfront station a short 7-8 min walk away) or bus. There are plenty of parking spots near by, but Gastown being Gastown, finding parking is a bit of an expensive nightmare. I've come here twice now - once for happy hour and once for brunch, but it definitely won't be my last visit. Otto, our server, took great care of us. Making sure our drinks were always filled and recommending some great dishes. Since it was both mine and my brunch buddy's first time dining here for brunch, we made Otto choose all the fan favourites - the chicken and waffles, crispy bacon and egg (almost like a scotch egg), and the pork belly crackling. Winner winner, chicken dinner! All of these were delicious, especially the chicken and waffles. The waffles go perfectly with the chicken, which are battered and fried to perfection. And the maple syrup is probably the best maple syrup I've had. Our server joked that the syrup cost more than the chicken... which I wouldn't be surprised if it were actually true. They also have a great happy hour, with a great wine list. They aren't well known for their drinks or dinner, but I'd definitely recommend checking them out since they have a great looking menu. If you have a chance to drink some of the wine on their menu, I'd highly recommend doing so. They know how to pick 'em! I'll definitely be back sooner rather than later. -
Issabelle’s 4-star review: One of my fave Mexican spots in Vancouver! Mexican cuisine is my favourite of all time, so I'm always on the lookout for authentic and delicious Mexican restaurants. It was a Saturday night, and my gal pal and I were on our way to the Pawn Shop, but they weren't taking in any other guests for the evening, so I hopped on Yelp and found this spot just a few blocks away. For a Saturday night, on Granville, I was expecting to not get a table or a long wait, but we walked in and were able to get a seat right away. Tacos on tacos on tacos. They got plenty of different varieties as well as special features. They also have burritos, quesadillas, bowls, tostadas, sopas, and salads. They got it all. My gal pal decided to get the prawn and avocado tacos that were on special, I got a mix of the pollo and chorizo tacos. We also split the chips and guacamole, which for me is always a must at Mexican restaurants. Margaritas. Tacos and margaritas - they go hand in hand. Like peanut butter and jelly. Like avocado and toast. Like scrambled eggs and bacon. Tacos and margaritas, you really can't have one without the other. In my opinion anyway. I treated myself to a strawberry margarita and my gal pal got herself a lime margarita. Both were very good and had just the right amount of tequila. Me likey. The atmosphere is fun, colourful, and authentic. Especially on a weekend evening, when the windows are open, you get a great view of the eclectic Granville entertainment. Front row to some really entertaining people watching. For 4 tacos, a margarita and half of the guacamole + chips, I paid around $20. Great deal in my opinion! If you're looking for fresh, delicious, authentic Mexican food, come here! -

Issabelle’s 5-star review: This Mexican food obsessed lady approves! Maizal, you can have all my stars! Maizal is a family-run business that takes pride in quality and authentic Mexican cuisine. Their menu consists of about 7 tacos, a few burritos, bowls, quesadillas and dessert. They don't have a lot of options, but I think that's great because instead they focus their time and energy on their core products and excel in creating them. I'm really into food bowls lately, so when I saw they had bowl options, I jumped on it. I decided on the pescado rice bowl (deep fried fish batter w/ rice, beans, poco de gallo and corn tortillas on the side). Their fish batter is made with chicharon, which adds the extra crispiness. I'm a huge fan. I also got one of their churros to go. It was the perfect sweet snack. House-made and warm, mmm I'm having dreams about it. Next time I'll have to try their churro ice cream (Vanilla ice cream w/ churro bits). Seems like the perfect pair. Maizal easily makes it into my top 3 favourite Mexican spots in the city. Can't wait to try more! -

Issabelle’s 4-star review: On cold, rainy, winter days, all I want is a big bowl of ramen and on this cold, rainy, winter day, Ramen Danbo delivered just that. This place is teeny tiny and only has seating for probably no more than 20 people at once. With it's small brick and mortar capacity, they are unable to take reservations and the wait to dine in is usually 20+ minutes. My little group of 3 came in around 12:45 PM and weren't sat till about 1:10ish. However, since the turnaround time with ramen is quick, we had our food on the table, had eaten, and all paid up by 2 PM. Efficient. They have an assortment of different ramens as well as a customize your own bowl. I got the Miso Rekka Ramen with medium spice, thick noodles, and standard toppings. All three people in my group got the lunch set A which came with one topping and our choice of gyoza. For $13.95, I thought this was a pretty good deal. My ramen was DELICIOUS! The broth was so flavourful and had the perfect amount of spice, the noodles were both chewy and soft, I loved the touch of sesame seeds. I even loved the soft boiled egg on top. Everything about my bowl was perfect. Service is a little bit slower than other ramen restaurants I've been in, which is surprising to me given how small the restaurant is. If you don't mind waiting for a good bowl of ramen, then this will be worth it. But if you're in a rush, I'd come back on a day where you have more time. -

Issabelle’s 5-star review: I'd like to think I'm easy to please... give me some music to dance to, yummy tacos, and tequila, I'm a happy lady. So, if I'm looking for all the above, Gringo is one of the spots on my short list. On top of that the food is great (and budget-friendly), the bartenders are hilarious, the drinks are strong, and the ambiance is fun. Are you getting authentic tacos? No. But you don't need authenticity to make this spot great. Food-wise, here's what I love the most: their Austin (saucy brisket + fried onions), Encino (slowed pulled chicken, ranch, salsa and crispy toppings) and Mugroso (chili veggies, corn, and zucchini) tacos, their queso dip (I'd eat this out of a jar if I could), their chili rice bowl, and the quesadilla. Tucked away in Blood Alley, this place can be a bit hard to find and parking can be a pain, but once you get into the alleyway, follow the sound of laughter and fun music, and you won't be able to miss it. It's a small space with only a handful of seats, but in this case, size doesn't matter. You'll be elbow to elbow with your neighbour, but who cares. Make a new friend over tacos and tequila! I can't wait to go back once we get the green light to leave our homes, grab a seat on one of their colourful bar stools, and order myself a few tequila shots and $2 tacos.
