E’s 5-star review: This is my favorite FiDi rooftop / public space in the city. It's small but quaint. It's perfect for taking naps on the bench (when space permits). There is room for about 20 people sitting (just to give you an idea of the size). It's the ideal place to try out my hammocks in the city plan (kind of like Citi Bike in NYC). The other place so far on my list is the palm tree outside Giants stadium on 3rd and King. -
E’s 5-star review: The rooftop here is one of the best ones in the city in terms of location, space and cleanliness. Despite the size, it's very relaxed and peaceful. It gets packed on sunny days given the location but pretty open during off peak times (great for coffee breaks etc.). It does get windy up here so make sure your lunch/trash does not fly away. -
E’s 5-star review: The Sun Terrace is an excellent privately owned pubilc space (POPOS) in the city - perfect for taking a break for FiDi workers or tourists looking to take a break from wandering aimless through downtown. What is great about this space is that it is open all week long including weekends. It can get busy here during the week, fyi (morning coffee and lunch breaks drive peak crowds). -
E’s 4-star review: Mission Street Plaza is a great escape from cubicle life. I still prefer the POPOS across the street (more seating) but this location has more shade. Given its visibility right on Mission Street, it can get busy during the day but on evenings and weekends it is pretty empty. -
E’s 4-star review: It's a nice, convenient place to eat lunch or relax for a few moments during the workday but it's pretty bust given that it's above a food court. Nonetheless, it's a great way to spend the lunch hour on a nice day. There are plenty of trees and flowers (during the Spring at least) but there are only a handful of tables (mostly benches) so be prepared to hold your lunch and watch out for the gusts of wind. -
E’s 4-star review: It's nice to have a place like this in the city; great for getting out of the busy streets and it's a great for meeting someone for coffee or taking that phone job interview. The rating is more so for the location, cleanliness and accomodation (not so much for the views). There is a Peet's coffee attached to this location (through the back - fyi). It gets busy during lunch hours so the chances of finding a seat let alone a table can slim. -
E’s 3-star review: This is a quirky small POPOS in SF with few seats but cool, interesting sculptures. The current set reminds me of a cross between Beetlejuice and Tim Burton's A Nightmare Before Christmas. E’s 2-star review: It's a maze to get to the top and once you get there (if you eventually find your way), it is a bit underwhelming. The views are not great, there is hardly anywhere to sit and it's mostly filled with mall workers taking a smoke break or high school kids who sneak up here to smoke. There are plenty of other public spaces better than this nearby.
