Lor’s 3-star review: Still a fan. Not liking the 2.5 hour wait but grub was just as good as last time. I'm a lover of the lamb popsicle's and the pork belly in the spoon -both were highlights this time round - the chicken in yogurt, pork shank, sable fish and samosa's were all ok. Brought some first timers with me - both agreed that the lamb was unforgettable - everything else was A-OK. I hear they are opening a bigger joint soon - that would definitely make the experience much better. With that long of a wait - you get waay too hammered at nearby bars that you get really critical of the food when you finally get a table! Service was great and the owner seems like he's straight out of Bollywood! It's an experience for sure:) -
Lor’s 4-star review: There must be a waffle invasion in Vancouver because this is the 2nd joint with awesome waffles. If I cried eating at Cafe Medina - I was seriously wailing at Nero. So so so freaking good. Had the Chico chip waffle and large plain one - we also scarfed down a Nutella and Banana topped one. Oh so good - To all the Belgian waffle bars in this town - can you please add a side of fried chicken to the menu? It would have helped the hangover I had while scarfing down these bad boys. Nero is amazing and it was a great way to end my weekend eating all over BC. I'll be back. I'm definitely coming back! -
Lor’s 4-star review: Here's the deal - waffles are the bomb and so worth waking at 8am on a Sat just to have a few of these bad boys. The joint opens up at 9a but the line starts at 8:30a. They are that good. Ok the lavender pistachio sauce and lavender latte - were Ok. Not my style - I'm more of a dark chocolate lover - but the waffles are good plain too. The Fricasse and Paella - filling and tasty -but again, the waffles take the cake. I wish they had some fried chicken in this joint - that would have been heaven. Service was swift - and ambiance is cool. Glad that I listened to all those yelpers who are fans of this joint! Definitely coming back. -
Lor’s 4-star review: Four stars for now but the vibe here alone is five. The name itself speaks for your experience here.. Only stopped for a nightcap - blood orange w prosecco - totally worth the visit alone. Right in the middle of the Gastown hype- you definitely need to stop here if you are out and about. Will be back the next time I'm in Vancity! -
Lor’s 5-star review: Hotdog Heaven ... For Asians especially. The terimayo dog will knock ur socks off! The Oishi dog with radish was just as good. Think japanese teriyaki on ur dog topped with seaweed- ok that didn't sound good.. But seriously this street meat rocks!!! Anthony Bourdain, Ice Cube and other stars have frequented this little stand on Burrard and are big believers. dont worry about the line - there is a reason why people patiently wait their turn. Once you go Japa you can't go back!!! -
Lor’s 4-star review: My ears still hurt from two days ago at backstage lounge- this place is loud but worth the ringin in my drums.... Came for a drink and watched some local bands rock it out. Noobie n Pocket Kings were my fave. Lots of hipsters hanging here. Great selection of beers on tap. Interesting code of conduct for ordering drinks at a bar. There is an orderly line that is formed! Nuts aayy?!! Apparently this is how the Brits do it. Cool spot that is worth visiting. Would have loved to come during the day to sit out on the deck! -
Lor’s 4-star review: Hotspot right in middle of yaletown. This is a brewery with decent grub. More casual than the swanky see and be seen places down the street. Tried the spicy Indonesian squid, braised short ribs, Singapore noodles and prime rib eye- all were good. Not the place for gourmet grub but perfect for beer n comfort food. Bar is popping and the outside deck is cool for people watching! -
Lor’s 4-star review: OMG I love this place. Perfect hangover food. Greasy and totally bad for you - but oh so freaking good. I'm a foodie like no other and I LOVE the SPICY MISO RAMEN here. I thought I was in Los Angeles at one point - cuz they have the best ramen joints - but Jinya takes the cake for me. (so good I actually came back twice in one weekend - sad I know - but I really needed a hangover cure that Japa Dog couldn't fix.) The combo options with upgrades to chicken karaage or curry bowls are ingenious! The iced green tea (unsweetened) is refillable and perfect while you sweat and slurp your noodles! I. HEART. THIS. PLACE. seriously. Right down the street from Westin if you are staying in that area. A must stop for sure! -
Lor’s 5-star review: Guu is seriously GOOD! Japanese izekaya that is fun! My top faves: salmon braised in foil, Saba w garlic, halibut & chicken karaage, ebi w spicy mayo, spicy agedashi tofu, deep fried spare ribs - everything was amazing. I could not get a table until 9p - I understand why! People flock here in groves for the food and drinks- very cool cocktails like sake and green tea mojitos! Vodka calpico was also delish! Very interesting vibe here - everyone seems to be YELLING!! - the servers, the hostess, the cook - it's LOUD but it's COOL. Try to get here early before you hit the streets of Gastown. Will definitely be back! -
Lor’s 4-star review: Wow. Amazing little bistro serving up big time cuisine. The tasting menu is the way to go here -- @$66 per head, you get a TON of good grub. You'll be in food coma by the end of course 3. Here's what our foursome had this past weekend: Prawns with braised oxtail & black bean puree/ancho chiles (2die4), cauliflower soup w/truffle oil & poached crab (very filling), Bone marrow with mushroom & basil aioli (Yum!), Salmon with special BBQ sauce (the bomb), Lamb with risotto (good, but were too full to appreciate this dish), Key lime cheesecake (honestly, not the best of the night). KDK rocks. Service was swift and they offered a corkage of $25 as long as your vino is not on their wine list. Came in for a foodie weekend & a milestone birthday - this dinner will definitely be one to remember! The only downside was that it was a very LONG experience. We got in at 8p and left close to midnight. We were too inebriated by the food and vino that we couldn't go anywhere else! Has a cool casual vibe that is not pretentious and is perfect for a Friday night dinner with friends. I love the street that this restaurant is on -- it's off the beaten path -- and very much my style of dining! Will definitely be back. -
Lor’s 3-star review: A-OK option for you to kill your time while waiting for your table at Vij's -- also a good option to watch fights on HBO. Lots of beer and booz to choose from. Big bouncer up front. Packed and perfect for watching fight night. (We saw Silva get his a#S!! and leg cracked and it was awesome - not for Silva - but for everyone watching in HD all over the bar) Divey kind of feel but full of Yuppies. I'd come back for a beer if I was back in the area. -
Lor’s 4-star review: Fabulous. Ultra pretentious. People watching even @ 11a. Grub??? It was good. Really good considering my first impressions above. Was here for brunch this weekend as apparently I was not smart enough to book months in advance for dinner! The space is so beautiful and wine room looked to die for. Service was amazing and although the brunch menu seemed light -- the grub was just as spectacular. The Chorizo Hash (w/poached eggs), Traditional eggs benedict & Lemon Ricotta pancakes - all very very good. (The potatoes served are simply cooked and tossed with a seasalt that is so amazing. You'll know what I mean when you try some.) I'm dying to come back for dinner. Hawksworth brunch is definitely up to par! -
Lor’s 4-star review: Two words: Fun. Steakhouse. Great for groups. Once you walk into Black and Blue - the layout and ambiance really blows you away. It has a sexy vibe to it that really sets the tone for the night. You know you're going to have fun the minute you walk in. The 80s and 90s tunes blaring throughout the space will also keep you smiling and dancing in your seat -- that and the cocktails they happily re-fill throughout the night! (Tip: watermelon mojito & black/blue signature cocktail both amazing). Steak?? Good - but nothing too special or distinct in my opinion. I had the bone-in rib eye and it was good. (all the extracurriculars that i've just mentioned, make Black/Blue as 4 star experience). The creamed corn, asparagus, table side spinach salad - were all good and just icing on the cake! Service was swift and in abundance! We literally had 6 people waiting on us - unsure if it was due to the full-on chick table I was with - or if it was just their ammo -- but it was nice. Location is right downtown and is walking distance to most hotels. Great addition to the Global group. Grub was decent. A perfect place for a girls night! -
Lor’s 5-star review: Food without salt is just bland... A trip to BC without a stop for a glass of vino at Salt would just not be complete! This place is uber cool and is worth risking ur life getting here... I say this because of the crack addicts that you have to pass on the way. There is a reason why this address is Blood Alley (super scary)! This is a meat, cheese and wine bar. If you want a place to hang with friends over a good glass of vino head here. Swanky people undercover everywhere, servers are cool in Black T's n converse. This place is just cool PERIOD.
