Jaina’s 5-star review: I'm a longtime fan of this legendary snack shack. I love the no-nonsense attitude, the hilarious menu, and the flaming hot huevos rancheros with green chile sauce. Whenever a friend visits from out of town, they want to eat here. XOXOX!!!!! -
Jaina’s 4-star review: Because this place is such a short walk from my house, I didn't try it until this year (living that close to yummy food could be dangerous). Three times I've had dinner there, and three times I've been delighted by a new fancy treat, like grilled salmon cheeks or the uni and quail egg handroll or their unusual (and generous) sake presentation. For me this will be a great place to splurge with out-of-town visitors who want a special Japanese experience. -
Jaina’s 4-star review: Way back when I lived in the Lower Haight ('91), I used to come all the way out here for giant cups of coffee and the community journals. When I published my first zine ('93), Farley's was the first place to buy a few copies and put them on their magazine rack. This has always been a great cafe with a truly neighborhood feel. -
Jaina’s 4-star review: Great little neighborhood spot that packs a wide variety of excellent books into a modest space. Cool kids corner, dog friendly, near lots of snackeries. But what I appreciate most about this place is that whenever I want a book they don't have, they get it in within a couple of days. Keep independent bookstores thriving! -

Jaina’s 3-star review: When I can't face the crowds at Rainbow, or I just need a few items, I prefer to shop at this local co-op than the big chains nearby. Everyone there has been super friendly with me. -
Jaina’s 3-star review: As a regular snacker at the Mission Sunflowers, I was thrilled yet apprehensive about their arrival in my neighborhood. The location they're in seems to be cursed-- all restaurants I've ever seen there have lasted a few years at most. Could Sunflower break the spell? The ambiance is sheer gentrification, reflected in the all-English menu and fancy wine list. The condiments come in little jars with spoons instead of squeeze bottles, but that's just the trappings. The flavors are the same, and that's a good thing. But I'll probably just go to the Mission locations, anyway. This ambiance is not for me. Good luck, Sunflower! -
Jaina’s 3-star review: Plenty of parking, but a little pricey. Lots of neato novelty knickknacks that aren't art supplies, but sure are fun to peruse. -
Jaina’s 3-star review: Needed a quick mend for a puncture in my tire, and they said "come on down!" 30 minutes later, I'm driving away without a care in the world. Nice folks, decent price--I'd certainly consider going back there for more substantial work. -
Jaina’s 4-star review: Another Yelp success! I needed my garage door fixed--and quick! So I did a quick Yelp search and--behold!--right in my neighborhood--just what I needed, and well-regarded by Yelpers. For good reason. Dean got back to me quick, was able to come over quick, and less than an hour later my ancient garage door had a new spring and shiny cables. We shook hands and I said, "I'll see you in 15 years." "That's about right," he said, and away he went, with a shiny new check (he don't accept plastic, and good for him).
