Sorry to start the day with rant but this just pisses me off!

We live down the street from a fast food place.  I constantly find Ketchup packets and misc. debris and pick it up while out with the dogs.  They find this stuff and eat it.  Besides the dogs,  do you not have any consideration to your environment?  Last night, arriving home from a play we pull up towards our place and there are like six fast food bags that someone has just thrown out of their car window, straws, cups, wrappers, partially eaten food,  we are blocks from the bay,  where the fuck do you think this stuff ends up?  My god people,  who the hell taught you this was ok to just throw crap out of your car window????   !!!!

What I don't get is people who keep trash and junk in their yards.  Old cars, broken down appliances, plastic bins that are broken and filled with rainwater.  Children's toys that have long been forgotten and covered in dirt and mold.

Do people really not care about this crap?

when I lived in the city, there was a family on the block that used to dump their fast food crap out of their minivan all the time.

I knew them and asked to please stop cause the pigeon population were getting happier. They did stop dumping it.

Fast forward 10 years and I'm living in a suburb.  Another minivan family is dumping fries and wrappers outside my house/block.

This is my (minivan-kid) hell, but since it is the outerlands, I don't know my neighbors enough to tell them to stop it.

A while back the BF and I were heading to Palm Springs via road trip.  We pulled up in some godforsaken town for gas, water, let the dogs out etc.  BF is inside,  I'm waiting in the truck.  The chick sitting in the car next to me puts down the window and just throws out a whole bag of trash onto the parking lot and there is a trash can right in front of her!!!! I got out, picked it all up and put it on the hood of her car.

ever lived across the street from a housing project in the city?  they'll just drop the wrappers right on the ground after eating it, even though they're standing next to a garbage can.  shameless

I tell folks to pick up their isht. Seriously.  While in my yard or talking to neighbors, I'll see this and politely ask the person to please pick up their trash. I even tell them they can use my trash can. I will probably be shot and killed one day for doing this but at least my block in Oakland will look nice.  Keep Oakland Beautiful!

Who are these people that keep passing on their legacy of dumping trash?  Aren't these adults who are basically teaching their kids it's ok to throw garbage out of cars or worse yet, in the gutter or in other people's yards?  Are they just being inconsiderate, lazy, or stupid??

After I picked it up I thought about taking it down to the restaurant and leaving it on their floor.  I refrained.  It's not their fault.  They are actually pretty concientious.  I see their employees cleaning up around the area, beyond their property at least a couple of times a day.

JP I live near a fast food place too and have to keep an eye out for the chicken bones that people throw on the ground to make sure my dog doesn't eat them...and what gets me about it is that there is a trash can 2 feet away that is never full.

Oh yea,  chicken bones,  dogs find these all the time too!  I just don't get it,  if you're eating in your car from a fast food place,  you have the bag there,  put your garbage in the bag and your next stop, put in in a trash  can!!!!

  1. Ugh...litterbugs suck. Such a selfish way to be and think.

Seriously, what kind of people do that kind of crap!

About a month ago, I saw someone just toss the biggest wad of paper right out their car window and for some reason I was actually shocked!! I mean I see garbage on the sides of freeways etc... but I was like what the hell.
I totally was waiting for the light to turn green so I could get up to that car and talk some smack... but alas the driver in front of me was a turtle in a shell.

Then about two weeks ago, some dude tossed a can out of his car... but he did it when the light turned green. Like he was holding on to his trash waiting to toss it out the window... almost like he wanted to litter and he knew it was wrong and didn't want to be stuck next to the litter.

Grrr... that is really annoying but I live in SJ and its everywhere it's a real bummer.. people just don't give a crap.

OMG I feel you on this. I often find garbage outside my building RIGHT NEXT TO A TRASH CAN!! Some people are just ignorant and think that there is some magical elf who comes and cleans up after their lazy asses. This is something that really bugs me and I wish there was something I could do. There needs to be some kind of non-profit organization that goes into schools and teaches kids the cause and effects of littering and how they are hurting the environment. If we get themwhile they are young, there is hope to avoid this ignorance in adults. AS for the adults today who do this, that's a lost cause. Sad, but true.

i often dream of a singaporean draconian rule for fuckers like this.  trash does so many horrible things to our planet, oceans and animals.  most of which i value a hell of a lot more than my fellow inhabitants.

My home is right next to a bus stop. People take their trash and fling it over our garden wall, everything from half-eaten Burger King to beer cans to dog shit wrapped in newspaper, then I have to clean it up. Assholes.

The industry I work in generates a lot of trash.  We have a big recycle / composting effort and are continuously educating our staff and customers.  We were in a strategy meeting once and one of the HR people that spearheads our environmental program stated that her nephew used to be one of "these people".   She brought him to one of our strategy meetings and demonstrated the impact of his behavior.  He was 12.  I hope it helped!

  2. That's infuriating, BK.

One of the most blatant examples of littering that I've ever seen was a woman on the 14 bus. She was feeding her pre-schooler McDonalds, and as they were finishing up their food, she just threw each wrapper/item onto the floor of the bus. Utterly shameless. I mean, even if she had at least wadded it all up into one bundle and tossed it that would have been better.

Great example for your kid, lady.

or the fact that there was eating on the muni, people can't follow rules, no eating or drinking on muni.

  3. I have no problem mentioning it to other people. I hate when I see people dump things out of thier car onto the street. Is it that hard to put your garbage in a bag?

People who are too lazy to recycle bother me too. Is it really that hard?

How come nobody's said anything about the douchbags who leave their uneaten pizza, hamburger wraps and similar behind on busses. Whenever I see this it brings out the Tom Bruso in me...

Harry,  this thread has no implication of racism,  just ignorance.  Don't go there.  Ignorance and lack of concious cannot be attributed to any one group.

I say it's an utter lack of respect, also something that cannot be attributed to one group.

How come no one has mentioned cigarette butts? Just walk down the street, you'll see a million of them. I really could care less if you smoke but please clean up after yourself.

This brought me back the memory of house guests from hell.  My ex and I took this couple visiting us to Napa for wine tasting, and the girl was chewing gum.  When she was done, she rolled down the window of the moving car and just threw it out into the traffic.  I was aghast and said "please don't do that again".   Her reply was "I am on vacation and I am trying to enjoy myself."  She became infuriated with me for calling her on it, she literally became a bitch from hell the rest of their stay with us.  She even suggested to my ex that they should ditch me and 'go have fun' when I got out to get some cash form the bank.  Well, maybe her curse did work, because needless to say, I am no longer with my ex and I don't have to deal with his friends.

I've never understood this either. Why do people think that cigarette buts don't count as "litter"?

Some assholes who live on one of the upper floors of my apartment building were continuously smoking on their fire escape then throwing the butts down into the airshaft. Those of us on the lower floors have to look at them but can't get down there to sweep them up. Our apartment manager had to put threatening notices under our doors telling us to stop. WHY do people have to be TOLD that this is not right? Do they think the butts miraculously dissolve into thin air?

I hate the "if I can't see it, it's not there" mindset.
