Bought a 750Li from here 3 months ago. Had problem's with it on the first night of the purchase. All kinds of faults kept popping up, turn on the radio and the back speaker's sound blown. Bottom line they sold me a ceritfied pre-owned car with a blown amp and a bad battery. Owned it for around 73 days its been in the shop 32 of those days. Worst of the worst!

Did you buy the extended warranty package for the pre-owed 7-series?

It sounds like you bought a lemon, for which the California Lemon Law may provide you protection -- you can force the dealer to take the  car back and give you a full refund.  (Google California Lemon Law.)

Altneratively, contact BMW of North America and lodge a complaint.  (I suggested this to another Yelper and he got his money back.)

    Good luck.

CA Lemon Law is for new vehicles: The Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act (beginning with Civil Code section 1790) provides protection for consumers who lease or buy new motor vehicles. It's possible, but highly unlikely that your used BMW 750i would fall under the definition of "new". For consideration, the car would need to have time remaining on its original factory warranty.

Even though the 7 series is considered the flagship vehicle, I can tell you that I hear/see more problems with the 7 series than any other model of BMW.

As Weatherford BMW is an independently owned organization, BMW NA has no real power over them and will be unlikely to force the dealer's hand. Sure you can ruffle some feathers and maybe get some desk jockey to make some calls on your behalf, but again, unlikely.

Just because someone bought a used car that has problems, doesn't mean its a "lemon" -- at least not legally speaking. How come you didn't notice the poor audio when you were thinking about buying the car? Or did it blow out under your ownership? Also, if you read the fine print on your certified pre-owned BMW warranty -- doesn't cover audio components.

Luckily, the warranty does cover electrical, of which you are gonna need it on a German car.

  1. Maybe you should write a review?

I'd think the certified stamp comes with some kind of recourse.  What exactly are they certifying?

certified pre-owned is a glorified marketing plan to help dealers make money off of used car sales and service. the "factory" (bmw) offers a certified pre-owned product to its dealers, essentially giving a limited warranty for a fee.

    ...its still a used car.

Thanks for the info. I have contacted North America BMW they are looking into the matter. They tell me in order for the car to be bought back that it has to be in the shop for 30 days whick it has. I've gone to Weatherford to talk to the owner only to be told that they are owned by a japanese company. So I ask to talk to "the man in charge" they tell me its the service manager whom I've talked to several time but keep getting the same answer "the car's not a lemon" "thing happen." I never new that you could get fucked in the ass when buying from a so called luxury dealership. I won't stop fighting just putting the wordf out so no one else goes through this shit!

    Congrats Pete.

I've had 4 brand new BMW's and found the 535i to be the best all around; the 335i is the most fun to play with.

BMW of NA is fairly responsive.

i can't say i'm done with bmw's, but i'm going to take a hard look at other brands for sure!

  3. I recently bought a certified pre-owned Acura. The experience was a positive one, and I was happy with the price and love the car. I guess it's just a crap shoot.

God luck with your next purchase Pete!

@ rene did you buy the tl or rl?

  5. I've owned two VW's, one of which the engine caught on fire after just two years. RIP Red '87 Scirocco 16V

  6. I bought the RL.

  7. My previous car was a 2002 TL. I loved it, but it had a zillion miles on it and needed a new transmission.

Pete -- check out some of the brand new Buick cars too.

Rene -- The RL's are very nice.  The TL is the European Honda Accord retuned for the US market as an Acura: so we get the best of both world!

  8. Actually, I believe the TSX is the European Accord no?

  9. And I am loving my RL. No buyers remorse.

the new buicks are nice, even the hyundai genesis looks cool.

  10. Pete, I love the new Hyundai's! Especially the Genesis!

  11. The new 2011 Genesis V8 429 hp! You get a lot of bang for your buck with this car.

    • 19 friends
    • 154 reviews

I agree. The Genesis seems awesome and has had great reviews and it comes with the longest warranty in the industry.  I'd buy that car in a New York minute!!!!

  12. If I were looking for a new car, I would have to agree. It doesn't seem like anyone comes close, especially give the price point.

  13. I'd even consider getting the 333hp version. 19/29 mpg per gallon with that one, and for $34,200 base.

  14. Korea has been quietly kicking some major ass in the auto industry.

Rene -- most of the critical components in your Mac Book Pro (and iPad's and iPhone's) are made by Samsung or LG!!!!

  16. Phillip, I was just about to bring that up! I look around my house, and we have two mac book pros, two i phones, LG washer/dryer , frig, two televisions all made in Korea. Technology seems to be moving just tad further east.

Rene -- very true.  We are simply becoming a nation of consumers.  Even the robots that are used by American manufacturers are built elsewhere, Japan, South Korea and Germany!

i didn't know the genesis had 429hp thats pretty impressive

  17. Yes, the 429hp version will set you back quite a few more $. they list at $46,500 verses $34,200 for the 333 hp.

  18. There is also a 385 hp for around $44,500

  19. 3 to choose from!

the 750 bmw i had was only 360hp, with the amount if $ that i get back from bmw it should be enough for the top of line hyundai.

  20. How awesome Pete! It would be hard to pass up that car. Still look around and test drive each one. Sometimes it's the little things that can kill a deal.

    • 19 friends

Pete -- it looks like the Genesis can run on regular unleaded, as well as premium unleaded.  That's a great feature.  One of my neighbors whose friend has a Genesis said the car pampers you like no other and it has all the bells and whistles you would ever want.  If you are not a speed demon, you may want to stick to the V6.  (I made the mistake of going to a V8 550i and find it had to go back to a V6, even though my driving will never require 400+ hp.) Tell us what you end up getting.  Oh, stay away from used BMW's as most original owners likely abused the hell out of them!  I know I did.

Japanese cars are for the normal working class family.......I love my car cause it saves me gas, the outer shell isn't as nice as the high end cars but reliable even for long trips.....

Those that purchase those high end cars gotta have the dough to take care of regular services....but in ur case, weatherford should have helped you take care of it....they know bmws have more problems than any other....all but one of my bmw friends have complained bout this blowing out and that not working......

Hyundai will be in the same league as Honda and Toyota in less than five years.  Let's hope GM and Ford will continue to improve.

BMW's are great when they are brand new but after the warranty expires the owners need a fat wallet to maintain their Beemers.

    All dealers are crooks.

Get a Bentley manual and DIY, saved me at least $8,000 in the past year and no dealing with dealer mechanics.  Find an indy mechanic for the really big jobs you aren't ready to tackle yet.
