1. So I suck at shopping for cars. It's stressful, expensive, and you *know* you're getting lied to. But some dealers are worse than others. You guys got any good bad stories?? I got screwed so bad this week by some local a-holes...

Since mostly 5-star reviews are showing, I'm guessing that your review will be buried with their next ad buy.

Go fully electric whatever you do. Love my 2017 fiat 500e.

But this is hopefully my next upgrade

  2. @ Rick - 100% will be buried in 5 mins. Those reviews are definitely purchased. So gross.

@ Dark - solid advice, thank you. And that video is hawwwwwwwt!!!

Go thru Truecar, and let the dealers compete for your business.
Be aware that they can still rip you off via your trade-in or financing.

This guy is kind of obnoxious, but he has some good advice and many videos

Any option to just give them back that car Ray?
If there was any legal way to do that I would, I assume it's not a salvage title, but 3 major repairs seriously devalues a car.
I don't recall but I thought there was some 3 day buyers remorse thing on used cars? Been too many years I don't have a clear memory on that.

edit, maybe some ideas in here

I've dealt with many shady kaniving dealers and this one tops my list. Bay Shitty motors is by far the worst. Complete waste of time. They want you to make a credit card deposit to lock you in the deal. Hell No!

On another note, I negotiated with Toyota by using the Costco price against them and they beat it so I saved bout 2000. This tactic helped me and forced Toyota to drop the price down. Just go to Costco.com type in the car make and model. The Costco dealer will get you the best price and take that match it with a model your looking for and there's your negotiating tool. Does that make sense? Super deal to be made!

I got a better deal thru Truecar than via Costco. And AAA switched to Truecar.

  3. I used the USAA Car Buying service ONCE for a 2013 Tacoma.  USAA sent me to Hanlee's Toyota for the best deal. Hanlee's treated me good and delivered the truck to my house. Weeks later, I found out Hanlee's signed me up for all kinds of car loans and financial services.  USAA had no comment.

I have only bought one new truck,
my sweet spot is 3-4 year old, low mile, one owner, all service records and original info (I'll pay top dollar for records) and no history in rust belt regions.
My State has no sales tax on private party sales, so it makes a difference.
It has worked for me, and I see no reason to change.

  4. I'm a little confused by the review -- it sounded like they *tried* to sell you a clunker. This led me to believe that you didn't buy it.

  5. Jay, are you actually in Idaho? I thought you choose a Yelp location by "throwing a fart on a map"

    I've done both.
No I am a bit transient as I work on the road 6-8 months a year,
I liked that there was actually a town with a beer name to it, and at that time someone else already grabbed, Intercourse Pennsylvania, I was surprised Beer Bottle existed, so I went with it.

As far as no private party tax, Nevada is that reference

Lived in Bay Area for 12 years so there we are, no chance in hell I would ever move back
I can visit 6 times a year and still save money on taxes and government irritation.

  6. Hah! Who knew about PA? (Ok you did, and others do. Rhetorical question)

I have imagined myself moving to Seattle or Vegas (near Lake Las Vegas) -- especially in retirement. I don't like the idea of paying income tax twice on my 401(k) distribution.

Go to Nevada, No State income tax grows on you REAL fast.
I  grew up in Seattle, sold any real estate I had before 2000,
I would never consider living there again either.
Used to love living there, going to Portland, BC, it is just a shit show now.
Nothing in the "good column" is worth that irritation for my structure.

A guy I used to work with retired to Carson City. The Carson Valley is just beautiful.
