Ok so I got a neighbor who saves a parking spot in our neighborhood with his motorcycle. He only brings it out to save a spot for his truck. My question is if I park in front of my driveway and part of my car is occupying the free space of the motorcycle spot and he asks me to move my car, can he get me in trouble if I say no to him? This guy literally has been saving this spot for a year now.

  1. He figured out a loophole

If this is not a designated motorcycle space, then no, there is no problem.
If you block your own driveway and your car goes into the space where anyone can park, then you are good.
I do this all the time when my neighbors use 1 car parked in the middle of the spot where 2 cars can park.
I park my car in my driveway and pull right up to their bumper so they can't park 2 cars, just the one that is already there.

How do you save a truck spot with a tiny motorcycle?    Is the one parking  space between two drive ways?   Then  If you do park across your drive way the police may still ticket you since they do not always verify what address the car is registered too.  (worst is they may tow it)  Parking a motorcycle on the street  is not a loop hole, it is all legal. Where does it go when the truck is back?  Does he move it in front of the truck?    The best you can do is buy a motorcycle or a small car and park it next to his bike. Then he can't park a truck later.

Get 2 friends, lift up the motorcycle, and move it 6 ft.  Rinse, wash, repeat til moto joe gets the msg.  And that's being kind. Some folks would deflate his tires playing games like that

  2. That's not the loophole I'm talking about

I'd like to say "no" he can't get you in trouble with law enforcement but you might make an enemy of your neighbor.  Are there any other parking spots around that you can focus on parking your car, instead of eyeing this one particular spot and getting annoyed over it?

Finding parking is hard and also I have baby and there will be times when I have to walk with my baby kinda far even if its raining because they keep saving the spot with their bike. So the guy parks his bike and then when he's going to park his truck he brings his bike into his garage.

Buy your own motorcycle and park it next to his.
    Or move.

Take an old padlock and chain through one wheel.

  3. You can report his vehicle as abandoned to the police dept. According to city ordinance, he can only leave it parked there for 72hrs. Since he only moves it at night when he comes back home, there's a good chance when the meter maid or cop comes back in the day 72hrs later, they'll still see the bike there and ticket/tow it. Problem solved

Thanks for the response everyone! I just called Daly City PD and they said as long as im not blocking their drive way or sidewalk then I should be fine. It's not their space and it's not a designated motorcycle parking spot. I wont get cited or towed even if part if my car is taking up the free space of my neighbors bike. They told me they might retaliate but just call the cops to stop things from escalating.

And calling the owner of the house that we are leasing from to tell on us

I like this idea. It would be expensive, but entertaining.

Can you build a little fort around his bike by stacking Bird and Lime scooters all around it?

I would do all those but they got cctv around their house like its the white house. Update again! I called the cops on her since she was harassing us and the cops said that its ok! Its not her spot and its not fair that shes saving the spot!

Hi sarah, yes we tried to talk to her calmly but then the threats just started to come in more saying our neighbors dont like us (most of our neighbors love us and invites to partys) and that she will call the owner of the house to report us! It is really unfortunate that they would try to threaten us just for a parking spot.

Would love to have the neighbor start a thread and hear her/his side of the story now.

Sarah, they have a truck, a motorcycle, and an SUV. We have a sedan and an SUV

Her side of the story to why they save the spot with a bike is because their truck is too big for their driveway and that they can only park on public parking spots. And also I dont know why she said this but her husband cant ride the motorcycle???

Seems like he is doing absolutely nothing illegal

    Good luck

  5. That's one reason why a lot of HOAs require that your garage be used for parking your vehicle.

A place I rented from in Novato had periodic checks to see that the garage of houses were not overstuffed such that a vehicle couldn't be parked inside.

Update  for today, now they are parking their motorcycle length ways not even in an angle so my car dont have space to even block my own driveway.

Dude don't fucking come back around here unless you're looking for advice on the best way to vandalize his property or kick his ass.

Is there only one space on the entire street?    If the bike is registered, then it is legal to park on the street and just needs to move every 72 hours.   This is becoming a I want to park my car in front of my house rant.

  6. You gave us the impression that you can't park at all in your garage. Best would be to start by clearing out the stuff.

Go with my initial suggestion and just park your car elsewhere.
There's no point in getting a headache over some petty stuff like ONE parking spot.
I'd rather be on the good side of my neighbors than a bad one.

    yup, that is my vote.
Have a garage sale, park in the garage.
My neighbors do the same thing.
their garage is full of crap so they park in their driveway and block the sidewalk.
Any time they block my driveway I call the tow truck, and they know it.
I tell them straight out like 8 years ago.
"hey, please don't block my driveway, I have to go to work/school/ballet class/etc., I know you are sorry and all, but the next time, I am going to call the tow truck so I am not late to work/school/ballet, Got it?"

And the next time they park in my driveway, I have them towed, they were all upset with me, and I was like, "Look, I asked you to please not block my driveway or else I would call the tow truck. You blocked my driveway, and I called the tow truck. This is going to be the same result every time. Got it ?"

Yeah when I lived in Noe valley sometimes people would accidentally block our driveway. I'd have them towed.

Can't believe the OP tolerates this motorcycle guy.... she's allowing the problem to continue and not resolving it.
