A small group of friends and I are taking a trip to NYC in mid October for 4 days.

Wanted to know what the locals would recommend for those who pretty much never been to NYC? We're really not the group that seeks out clubs, parties or bars. We enjoy exploring and discovering new fun and exciting places. We're foodies so any restaurants or places to eat that can only be found in the city would be awesome. Most of us are armature photographers so spots where to take great pictures is a plus. Also some of us are still students so we're not planning on balling out on expensive tourist spots and activities or places to eat.

    What would you recommended?

Sorry, I forgot to mention that we're staying near the Rockefeller Center area.

Some museums, like the American Museum of Natural History and The Metropolitan Museum of Art are pay what you wish - yeah it says $20 but throw them like $2 and they'll let you in. Show your student ID everywhere - you may get discounts (I know MOMA offers student discounts).

Restaurants that are cheap and filling include any of the Dallas BBQ places (I didn't say good), any pizza place, and most storefront Chinese restaurants.  Reasonable sit-down restaurants include Pongsri Thai (Theatre District), Shake Shack, and John's Pizzaria.

@ OP: As long as u r not a vegetarian, Katz's Deli is a must for all. Best pastrami in town. Then a bunch of bars/clubs around the corner on Ludlow St. yelp.com/biz/katzs-delic…

You'll be staying in a very tourist-y area, so venture down to the East Village by 2nd Ave between 1-11th streets for a condensed variety of exotic and affordable cuisine.

If I understood your original post correctly, it sounds like you want to visit places in NYC where you can see armatures. Well, the primary producer and distributor of AC electric utility power in NYC is Con Edison, aka Con Ed. Most of their power generating plants still use fossil-fuel powered generators (although some of their power nowadays comes from solar PV), each of which, of course, has a huge armature (although it is hard to see much of the armature on a large generator, as much of it is obscured by the generator outer housing).

In any case, you could contact Con Ed in advance and ask to arrange a tour of one or more of their generator-equipped power plants, as each of their conventional generators has an armature. BTW, the armatures in many of those old-style generators can weigh over 10 tons.

I still need to try this "chopped cheese." I understand it's a BX thing, and to there I shall make my pilgrimage.

    Just
    Don't
    Do
    It

Imagine taking a perfectly good hamburger and chopping the crap out of it then adding onions, peppers and cheese.  Just go to a greasy spoon and get a cheese burger. A friend likened it to the pre-chewed food that a bird gives its young. Lol.
