I'm interested in becoming an apprentice plumber. Is this a good choice? Is the money good? I eventually would like to start my own plumbing business one day.

I've been plumbing for 13 years, good money, sucks being on-call, hours are up and down, very competitive.  So I got a job at a certain school district,  happy camper now.

Mad love for all plumbers. Especially Italian ones rescue princesses from castles and go kart racing.

Quit eating those super burritos; they clog up the toilets and plumbing. The logs can't get through.

All kidding aside, the money is fairly good as a plumber, but it's a very physical job. The equipment is heavier then you think, and the break is invariably in a crawlspace or otherwise in some hard to get to space. As you get older the injuries will start racking up. It's also kind of a dirty job with not a lot of respect.  Typically people wind up wanting to do something else sooner or later.
But yes you can make a living at it.

Plumbers are not quite as big of Madonna's as electricians and locksmiths but they are kind of wimpy.  Just remember shit runs downhill and what day is payday and you will do all right.

Electrician would be a better gig than plumber.

Anyone that has ever worked on a big job knows electricians are prima donnas.  I am surprised they even bother to wipe their ass.  Electricians even admit to sitting down to pee.  They usually spend more time whining than working.  Both plumbers and electricians don't know what drilling in the center of a a structural member means.  They would rather destroy the structural integrity with their chain saw.  Plumbers think doorways are good places to run their vertical pipes.  There really should be a limit on the drugs they are allowed to ingest.

I met an electrician once who told me he had to be hospitalized from being electrocuted.  I never met a plumber who almost drowned though.  :-)
