Which are the best and worst? Uber Eats?  Door Dash? Grub Hub? Eats 24? Etc?
Any tips for ordering? Any tips for delivery driver?
Do you meet delivery person or just meet at curb?
Do you tip on the spot?
    Is it worth it?

I haven't tried any service, so any words would help :)

Looks like not too many yelpers use delivery services as I thought :(

Dont have a worst but Caviar is the best in my opinion. An Etiquette would be to tip. A friend of mine delivers and gets paid very little. They mostly depend on tips.

I never heard of caviar. Is that onky in SF.
I agree to tip on the spot or after delivery on line.
I think ppl think the delivery charge is the tip.

It might be only on sf. I know that caviar is very picky with their restaurants. So the odds of having a bad delivery are low. And since it doesnt happen often if something bad does happen they are easy to resolve it.

They sound like they serve the higher end restaurants too, which makes sure the experience doesn't just end at the restaurant. It's like it's a concierge service from kitchen to home dining table :)

Omg, yesterday I was At a restaurant and a door dash driver came in and announced her self. The attire was so unprofessional. She wore shorts, slippers, tank top and her hair was a mess. It's like she walked out of the gym or fell out of bed.

At least dress in a solid colors and close toe shoes/tennis like the waitstaff at most restaurants, Imho

So far caviar and door dash are 1:1

I have seen posts in yelp talk for years about door dash being terrible.
I don't get food delivered because it is always cold, wrong, and seeing a video on the news the other day of a delivery guy drinking out of a coffee caught on door bell camera was discussing. The news also reported about an anonymous survey stating a lot of these people eat some of the food. That way they don't have to spend money on buying their own.

  1. Eeee gads!   Thank you Gloria

I read that door dash just bought caviar.

It depends on the server and the restaurant but I've had upscale dinners and picnics on a pinch with DoorDash and Uber Eats.

I love the idea but dang it... the charges can creep up. Do you pay a service charge with door dash AND delivery fees?  In Uber, the service charge I'm told is 15%. Just wondering if the service charge is the tip, but some customers add a tip on the tip line too.

    Grub Hub seems pretty reliable.

Well the trick is ... to TIP accordingly. Do not order a bunch of food then leave zero tip, or only 2.00 tip. Unless you're tipping the rest in cash. But if you leave just ZERO tip most likely your order will take a long time to arrive. Unless you put in the notes that you are tipping cash, so drivers still know that you're not trying to be a jerk.

But it's at the end of the delivery that you are asked to tip, not from the beginning of the order. So I've read that a 15% "service charge" is automatically added to the food, tax and delivery charge. Just asking is that given to driver? It Reminds me when you're in a restaurant and the restaurant implements a service charge of 15 to 20% above the bill and theoretically that is supposed to be the tip to the server who is handling the large party.

I found this article that better explains my confusion with all their fees.

The difference between adding a service charge on the bill of a large party is you see the food, eat the food, and expect good service?
I have gone to large parties at restaurants and if someone food isn't right you send it back or have it taken off the bill. If the service sucks I will call the manager and refuse to pay an automatic tip for bad service and believe me, they will take it off and make things right.
The problem with food delivery is you don't know any of this until the order is wrong, food is cold, and it takes over an hour or so to get? Then you have to try to complain to the restaurant about any of the above with no proof?
Expensive orders to go usually have more wrong then right and I have read to many to count complaints on yelp talk to remember?
The #1 delivery service that has been reported as the worst ever is DOOR DASH, just saying.
I won't waste my hard earned money on delivery food because I don't trust orders to be right and I don't trust the delivery people that have been seen on camera drinking out of ordered coffee or milkshakes and have admittedly said they take bites out of delivered food to save money on buying their own, REALLY?

Those drivers should automatically be fined and fired. I know a few friends who do this on the side and have ridden shot gun and honestly they are their to hustle to get more delivery opportunities they just quickly, but safely pick up and deliver and off to the next place.

I, too, have heard door dash is not very good but the fault can be the restaurant all the way to driver service.  I think it has a place, so those who can, will spend for it.

@ Chefs Daughter: I agree with you that there are actually people on a side hustle that are honest and want to deliver.
It is a problem with food all wrapped up for delivery to not know if the restaurant got it right?
Yes there are people that will spend a lot of money for delivery , I am just saying I am not willing to go though the hassle of trying to get money back if the order is wrong.
Being on Yelp Talk for many years now and reading so many bad experiences I guess this doesn't seem worth it?

Chef's daughter no, the service charge is NOT given to the driver at all. Completely separate. That's why tips are important.

Totally agree. Marquis.Think most customers think the service charge is the tip, since it's 15%. Even though the final invoice has a tip line, before completing the transaction.,most ppl by pass it. But yes I agree, drivers should get a tip.

Tip:  if you live in a huge apartment building or property, or dark areas where number is not easily visible, meet your driver in lobby, outside or curb.

Tip: Tip your driver. After all they are driving your meal(s) to you.

If these delivery services are adding a service charge as expected a person should realize it is not a tip? I thought I read a post saying the tip was included?
In any service industry I feel the person of course deserves a tip.
The problem I have read or Seen on the news is some of these people eat or drink out of delivery food. That makes me sick especially seeing a front door video of a driver actually doing this.
You should tip a delivery person for their service. I realize in life that seeing just one bad person in any profession doesn't speak for so many others.
I don't get food delivered, just my personal choice, but they definitely deserve a tip if you feel satisfied with their service.

Is the new app for Uber eats drivers having problems? My friend said since updating (I think last week) it's not as busy anymore?

I used to use doordash, but after my account was hacked, never again. Someone from NY ordered almost $500 worth of food from 2 diff places. My bank notified me. When I emailed doordash to complain, they never got back to me at all. Only use ubereatd and postmates now.

Doordash is not the way to go at all. I have heard from delivery drivers that they pay the best. Next to caviar. I also like uber eats but they are expensive af. And Postmates is just okay.

I have a few odd stories on these services.

  2. I'm not sure if this is the answer you were looking for, but I've been ordering from Doordash and Uber Eats pretty often and found my results to be quite similar in terms of who delivers my food, pricing, and other factors. It's good to know that both are equally effective platforms to order your food from.

I will add, however, that as a former driver for Doordash myself, I appreciate receiving tips in cash rather than on the app because Doordash typically uses the tip money to make up for the minimum payout. The compensation plan is controversial even to this day. I believe Uber Eats does not "pocket" tip money the same as Doordash, but tipping in cash is always recommended.

  3. Oh yeah, although it is alarming that Doordash is cited as being one of the worst delivery apps, just note that your experience may vary. In all of my experience using the app, I have mainly received positive experiences with my dasher, but location, time, place of order, and luck are always coming into play. Every platform has their bad eggs and laxk of certainty, so as always, hope for the best.

    Hope this helps :)

Calvin, this is appreciated and wonderful feedback.

It's nice to hear from a (former) driver. Often we hear the rants from customers but rarely from the other end. My stories are only from my friend. Although customers are vocal on their bad experience, it's nice to hear positive words.

While riding shotgun, I've heard customers yell at my friend for reasons beyond my friends control such as restaurants being very behind, unforeseen traffic conditions, blocked off streets by law enforcements, etc.
Some deliveries are in areas with limited or no reception and GPS cuts off or GPS routes to another location.

What about customers who take forever to open the door and then opens the door with aggressive behavior.  How about neighborhoods that addresses are not visible or dark (if delivery is at night) or deliveries that say wait in car and it takes 10-15 min even if customer says they are on the way. I've seen customers expect drivers to carry condiments or serving and eating utensils, etc.

Bottom line, drivers provide a service and don't make too much from deliveries. Drivers are not given the " 15% service charge" (I can only speak for UE), so be understanding, they are doing a service so you don't have to get your food, so tip them on app or in cash. But like most service employees, caSh is preferred.

The way I see anything delivered is all about providing customer service to get it right.
Long time answering the door is a new one? A delivery service is about getting the order correct and in a reasonable amount of time,so that they is what customer base the tip on?
Delivery food job is really un-forgiving  and you can get screwed on tip? Nature of this particular job.....

I rode with my friend today and it was a doozy. Again I'm sharing from the rider of delivery persons.
    perspective.

A customer ordered one roll of sushi to be delivered less than a block away. Customer requested he'll meet in front to pick up.  My friend texted a message "I have arrived":, as he requested. He eventually came down in 10 min, after she had to call.

Another delivery was attempted at said address given. Arrived and then received a message from customer, he gave wrong address.

I think this was a scam. Customer ordered 2 cans of coke from a Santa Clara indian restaurant to be delivered to a well established bad neighborhood a few cities away. She reluctantly cancelled. She was paid $12 for picking up. Even the lacy st the restaurant said she can't beleive just 2 sodas? In my opinion, those 2 sodas would have cost nearly $17-$20 on a card. WTH?

I have more stories from her and as the shotgun rider.

It is wrong an unfortunate that people would call in fake orders or purposely give wrong address? I hope the Restaurant has a disclaimer or rules to still charge a minimum amount on the credit card given? As well as a cancellation policy amount of time?
Your post about riding with a friend delivery driver and this side of this job is great to read because I have only read complaints from customers?
I don't know if delivery drivers get a base pay plus tips or they get paid per delivery plus tip?
I assume it is the ladder but I assume the driver must have a certain area they deliver to and what about the cost of gasoline?
Does a delivery driver have any bonus incentive based on fast delivery, customer satisfaction, or anything outstanding they can do to make more money?
I am trying to compare this job to a cab or uber driver that can make more money depending on the distance they take people?
When ordering an Uber you state you pick up point and your destination point and they give you a price and have your credit card information, So if you place a pickup order you know the price automatically charged to your card?
They send you a text or E-mail so when the charge goes on your card you have proof. My friend got charged a price somehow three times higher but he has automatic text and e-mail when a charge is made. So he called his credit card immediately about this charge and had proof of the price quoted and they dealt with Uber and changed the amount.
My point about comparing these 2 different but similar jobs is wondering why so many people complain about Door Dash, ect  is what kind of money can you make delivering food compared to driving people?
Of course it may be safer because food can't attack you....
