Chef, does beyond burger taste like beef? I noticed that it's made with pea protein. So far everything that I've had with Lea protein in it is barely edible.

    • 129 friends
    • 565 reviews

From what I understand it's peas and beets.  If you are a true vegan this will not cut it for you because from what I've watched on YouTube it's still cooked on the same conveyor belt as the regular meat so it Touches actual animal protein.   But if you're vegetarian it passes muster.

When I eat it I didn't even noticed any of the veggie taste it tasted like a burger. I even tricked a carnivore to try it and they didn't even know it was a veggie burger it's very soft pillowy like a burger and it kind a has a dark pink hue to mimic a medium well burger and with all the toppings it taste just like a regular burger with a charbroil to it. Hope you give it a try it's only here for a limited time and when you do let me know what you think.

I've had impossible too and feel beyond is better. I'm not a true vegan/veggie by no means, but like the option. Mom used to buy the make your own veggie patty from adding water to a Vege mix to make a mash, so it's come along way :)

Oh I'm glad he liked it. I like it as the video eluded, it offers more for both Vege and non Vege option at a franchise fast food joint. I prefer beyond over impossible. I've used beyond meats above 5 hrs for my chili's and both veg and non veg can't tell it was beyond. On occasion I'll buy Trader Joe's mock-balls when I make spaghetti and meatballs. Try sneaking that in and see if your husband can tell LOL

Ruby, it is, but I still prefer the taste of real meat.

It's hard to eat a large burger without using lots of napkins! Carl's Jr. has amazing cross cut fries!

For fast food burgers, i like In N Out burgers the most.

  1. Vegetarian chiming in... Hey, ya'll!  ;-)

Good to see ppl talking about the great BB - I sure wish In N Out would also get on board... Honestly, I way prefer the Impossible over BB, imo. Thoughts?

    • 129 friends
    • 565 reviews

Thought? Oh boy here are my 2 cents :)

I've had both, Jeanie. I even made many trials using both to make Vege chili. My testers (fam, friends :) preferred the beyond meat in the chili. Same ingredients on both but different Vege-meats.

With the BB at Carl's, I think b/c it has the traditional loaded burger on it (iceberg lettuce, sliced tomato, onion, cheese, special sauce, soft buns) . The whole bite was close to a flame broiled beef burger, so in my thoughts, it's close.

Back in the dinosaur era, veggie burgers in our home was a mash of water and a canned dry mix. Which was mealy, but formed into patties and grilled. My mom woukd buy from a health food store to switch things up.,Those days their was no soy, tofu was not as abudont as it is now, nor the beyond/impossible meat concepts. So I think it's come a long way.

For those who want ppl to try the BB, don't tell them before hand so you can get a true review of it. Don't do what I did and watch them eat it and ask how it was lol. That's a sure way of giving it away it's a "special" burger lol.

I'm exploring the idea of going Vege and/or vegan for Lent. Last year I went gluten free for 6 weeks (lent). So this year I might do the Vege/Vegan way. But I'll see. It helps too to get support cuz it's hard to be around ppl who are carnivores.

Lent this year is Wed, Mar 6, 2019 – Thu, Apr 18, 2019

  2. Howdy, Sweet CDD ;-)

    Happy Sunday!

I hear ya! I'll have to try to make BB here at home and just add a bunch of different spices (maybe even a tad bit of liquid smoke) to it for an added boost of flavor! I pretty much just drooled imagining it. Maybe pop em on the trusty Foreman Grill for good measure.

I can imagine seeing the development of alternative protein forms from the beginning...  interesting you mention your mother. What a wonderful approach she had in changing it up, it's interesting you mention that because my mom did the same with my brother and I! I'm sure it influence my throwing in a vegetarian meal about once a week with the kids ever since they were tiny. They always loved it back then, so they're super open to eating anything that I eat and they actually enjoy everything I make here! (Definitely makes it easier) ... so in my case, I would definitely love to make the burgers and not tell them what it is, but they'd know already that I wouldn't be cooking meat. I don't expect them to change their habits, I always let them cook it on their own if that's what they want.

Would be nice when the price for these alternative proteins drop down a little bit, with the exception of tofu which is super cheap and convenient!

Hi Jeanie, yes make your own burger with the traditional burger toppings. If it's loaded with health toppings, the non meat pattie will play well. Try TJ's meatless meatballs with a tomato mariners over spaghetti squash "noodles" or regular spinach or tomato infused pasta.  My mom's spaghetti was so untraditional but for me it was my version of traditional. She would throw in mushrooms, green bell peppers ( no colored ones were available at that time ) and coined cut carrots with a jarred spaghetti sauce. At that time it was Ragu LOL These days there's a lot more alternatives and a lot of healthy swaps out there. I like looking towards Asian Food because I feel they have a lot more veggie versus meat ratios. But of course in the asian cultures I'm sure there are meat heavy dishes.  Can't wait to hear how your creation turns out.

Oh darn I just realize Lent is in eight days. I have to think of something to sacrifice for 40 days I was thinking of going vegan and/or vegetarian.  But I was mentioning it to my doctor and he says I should include at least one lean protein so I was thinking maybe chicken and fish what are your thoughts. He just said he doesn't want to affect my red blood count or white blood count especially during the cold and flu season.

Hi JB, I finally placed a thread on my Lent challenge, so please please please feel free to comment there so I have a Daily contributing journal :) last year Gliten free was hard b/c honestly not too many gluten options but I did find pasta, noodles, bread and "flour" tortillas, crackers, cookies. But I had meats to enjoy. I've been mostly Vege but I knew I was not restricted. But since it's a complete no meatfor 6 weeks...that's the bigger challenge. I guess I better go in a meat coma by this Tuesday (Fat Tuesdsy) and become a saint starting Ash Wednesday till Easter.

I'll grab whatever strength you blow my way.  Some of my friends and family are you taking the challenge  of no soda, no chocolate, no bread, or not raise their temper when it comes to their kids, but some have dedicated to exercise or walk every day or devote time to volunteering.

  4. I hear you, Octavio. It can be a challenge for many when you're constantly surrounded... I'm in the exact same situation - I'm not only vegetarian I know... it seems at times ppl think you've gone batshit crazy for completely eliminating meat from your diet entirely just bc you spent the majority of a lifetime as an omni & it's all you grew to know.  Personally, for me - it's not an issue at all, other than getting semi grossed out whenever anyone around me eats it - but it's bc I'm totally content in my "why" for making the choice to change & I won't ever turn back.  That's how I keep going with it so easily.:-)

CDD - I'll check out your other thread! Good idea, my dear! I really love the ideas for Lent you & your friends came up with. All great stuff!! You will all accomplish your goals for Lent's duration ;-) xoxo

That birth control pills can really fuck up a woman's body.

I took two different generic versions of Yaz to control heavy & irregular periods & now I'm STILL bleeding heavily 19 days later straight!

Wtf? Ladies, do not take that crap! I did my research to late & found out that a lot of women continued to get their period for a year or more!

Stopping it won't help in some cases. At least not for me. It might take me 2-3 months to detox from this toxin!

My gynecologist told me to stop taking them then blamed it on my fibroids after an Ultrasound.

I never ever had a period that lasted longer than 5 days ever until I took those pills! I've spent hundreds of $ without insurance to get treatment since then, ugh!

My friend recommended it & it worked for her, but not me! Don't take that risk! Now I'll need to get a biopsy & more shit done to stop this!

I'm now taking meds to reduce the bleeding. Ugh!!!!
