I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this yesterday morning, driving down 4th (around N. Humboldt I think) in San Mateo. I didn't even know it was legal to resell these... at least without painting it (somehow, the scraped off label just doesn't seem to do much to convey the message: "No, this is not a police car."  It even had the freakin grill (err... that metal bumper thing in the front...) still on it!

Might be a gas guzzler but hell it'd probably be worth the $2500 just to have people clear the way while you're zooming down the freeway. Might get flipped off a little but it'd be worth it for the smooth ride.

Just had to share the laugh.

My favorite is the people who have purchased the DPT tiny meter maid cars...it's a brilliant idea for city driving, parking.

  1. there is one privately owned dpt vechile always on steiner....has a message saying something along the lines of...this is not dpt vehicle...please don't vandalize me..or something like that.....

This reminds me of Sunny in Philadelphia where they got a cop car and a junkyard cat who likes gasoline...

"It's got a cop motor, a four hundred and forty cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks, it was a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas."

When I was 19 I had a city job and got to drive on of these, so I would follow people around and act like I was the cops.  I would go to this spot that my friends like to park and smoke pot and drive up to them real fast to scare them.  I guess it was kid of an A-hole thing to do, but I was 19 and a a boring city job.

Crown Vics are hogs.  Get the Mustang or the Camaro CHP cars and you have a good one.

Ha! That shit was awesome... Charlie started dressing like Serpico... Just cuz.

Probably a guzzler, but probably worth it if you can freak people out here & there.

Wow, I had no idea this was such a common thing. I've seen postal cars for sale, have heard of the pick and pull. But this was aaall new to me. Gonna keep my eyes peeled for this thing on the road one day - it'd be a hoot to see who steps out of it. I wish i could afford it just for the fun of covering the back with liberal bumper stickers.

Haven't you ever seen the Blues Brothers? youtube.com/watch?v=yil9…

  2. Man, I just drove by a "state surplus sales" warehouse in Austin, Texas.  They have like 200 of these cars in a lot.  you can take your pick, but they're all the same except the location of the cigarette burns.
