1. Planning to invest on a 50-55" inch flat screen tv from BestBuy. Can anyone recommend me what's the best deal on Tv and bells and whistles to look for.. my budget falls between $400-800, maybe $900 tops. Lol.

There's an on sale right now on Sony for $399 at the daily deals at best buy. And spoke to a best buy rep last weekend, and told me, that some tvs that do go on sale have the less bells and whistles compared to non-sale items. Is that true or are they trying to nickel and dime me. Lol

Unless you see a killer deal now, then definitely wait a few weeks until closer to Black Friday. Thanksgiving Day through Black Friday weekend is when things get cheap.

Costco doubles the manufacturer's warranty on all TV sets.  If the price is the same as Best Buy (see coupons for even more savings) -- I'd rather get it at Costco.  My Executive Rebate is 3% of the purchase price.

We are really happy with our 50" Samsung plasma (1080p).  It only cost us $600, and we bought it on sale at RC Willey.
(They were about $100 cheaper than Costco for the same TV)

+1 for black Friday. Some stores are going to start the sale early this year. Start on Thursday. That sucks for the employees though.

Consumer Reports and cnet.com are good places to go read and review.

Lots of good deals online, but remember if there is a problem - it's YOUR problem to get it back for repair/replacement.  Make sure you understand what that entails if you can't put it into your car.

Costco does offer double warranty, and no hassle returns for the most part.  They do take pretty good care of their members.  Paying a few bucks more at Costco may be a good option if you're not technically savvy.

Online places offer what they call "white glove service" which means a random van shows up at your door with the TV, unboxes it and puts it on a table for you to plug in and test.  They probably won't configure your DVR and such - but it will be proven to work before you sign for it.  Again, make sure you know what is required to get service repair/replacement.

Usually if they get through the first 30 days, they're pretty rock solid devices.  If they have problems, they usually appear quickly - since they're from shipping damage.

INSPECT THOSE BOX CORNERS!  I know it's a new toy and you want it - but if the box is damaged, most likely there will be problems with the screen at some point.  Resist the urge to accept the damaged box.  You may live to regret it.  A 55" doesn't fit into most small cars, so you will have a hard time getting repair or replacement.

4k format support is still a long way off, so if you aren't planning for it to last 10 years, it probably isn't worth the money.

Smart sets with all the built in crap are going to get obsolete VERY fast.  Focus on picture quality, image and format setup, and of course sound.  You can always get a new box top device for whatever content comes out next - but putting these features in the TV is a sure way to guarantee yourself another upgrade in the near future.

Last, make sure you have a compatible brand with your other equipment.  It doesn't have to be the same brand, but it's nice when remotes can sync and control other devices - and you can get to a single remote.

Make sure that whatever you get - it supports watching South Park - over and over and over again.  This is the single most important function a TV has!!!  :)  Respect Mah Authoratah!!!

Omg, try Amazon. I picked up a really good LG, "48, I think, $500, delivered and set up while I was at work. They have so many options that are cheaper, in my opinion, for a better price.

  2. Do Cosco do price check aka low price guarantee from other competitors..!? That extra warranty though.

+1 for Cyber Monday (just because I REFUSE to deal with that Black Friday clusterf&%k and you can do it from the comfort of your own home)

  3. I was thinking the same thing too Patrick, but am afraid of the product once shipped to my door step. After seeing couple youtube vids/breaking news on deliveries mishandling them. =/

  4. Skip Thanksgiving and stand in line for Black Friday and be ready to fight people to get one of the 3 discounted TVs.

  5. So many options... Ahhh! So those who have a 50+ inch TVs or higher... Do you regret them.!? Or happy with it, price wise and the value/quality of your TV.!? And where'd you buy the TV.!?

And can anyone some it up all up what's the best TV so far and/or brand.!?
