Just saw this restaurant today as I was going down Watt Ave in North Highlands, sort of across from old McLellan AFB and am curious about it as I love Cuban food and coffee.
Has anyone here been to it and if, how was it?
I plan to try it out tomorrow.

Based on the thread title I'm assuming the restaurant is called Sol Cubano and it's located in North Highlands.

    "Sacramento cuban restaurant
Just happened to drive down Watt Ave. in North Highlands and saw a place called "Sol Cubano" Cuban restaurant.
The address is 5734 Watt Ave. east side of Watt, just past the entrance to former McLellan AFB.
I am both exited and curious and wondering if this place is any good.
I intend to try it out first thing in the morning.

They open at 6 AM and in addition to breakfast they also serve the Con Leche sandwich and Cuban coffee.
Has anyone on this board been to this place?
Please share your experience if you went.
    Thanks"

    wow, I actually got replies...cool
You can call me Eagle Eye if you want, thanks for the compliment.
Actually I stopped to see if the place was open but it was closed for maintenance, that's when I looked at the menu and opening times .
I went around back, kept knocking at the door until someone opened, (that's how exited I am to have a Cuban restaurant here!) and spoke to the owner who told me that he had to repair a heater but will be open tomorrow.

My parents have been there. They said the food and service were good but didn't think it was well ventilated because they hella had that food smell stick on their clothes. Lol

Went there this morning for breakfast with two friends.
The place is clean, the owner, Able, is friendly and he played Cuban music.
I had a roast Pork sandwich, it was good.
What I really wanted though was a Cubano sandwich, Able told me that this is called "Torta Cubano".
My friends had: a plain Omlette with toast and two Croquettes, the other friend had a ham, onion and cheese omlette with toast and two croquettes, they both liked their food.
The food was plain, but good.
We also had Cafe Cubano in tiny cups, it tasted just like the coffee I had in Florida.
I will go back to sample lunch and dinner selections, I am most curious about their Oxtail stew.

    Marion,
Try posting your review (immediately above) into the actual reviews page.  People are more likely to happen upon it that way because of how Yelp works.  Then, you might get others trying it and reviewing it.

Great idea Klaus, thanks, but I am not sure I have the qualifications to do a restaurant review at this time and am not very sophisticated with limited exposure of Cuban food, have only my curiosity and one visit to the restaurant behind me.
Can you guys help me out here?
It sounds as though a number of you have more experience than I do. Would be interested in your opinions.

What qualifications? This is Yelp, not the New York Times.

Just describe the food and what you thought about it, the service, if the place was nice or nasty (or a bit of both), and maybe things you would like to try on the menu. You'll be fine. Don't panic!

The only thing is that if this is your first review, and you have no image and no profile, Yelp might make your review disappear until you add more reviews and add info to your profile.

Echo Mike's sentiment...the fact that you are here means you are qualified.  Yelp is about individual opinions and experiences.  Write what you thought of the restaurant...anything you want.

    You can do this!

thanks for all the encouragment from everyone.
How do I get a photo on the profile?
I am going to back to the restaurant and try dinner, the Oxtail stew sounded good, so did the Ropa Vieja.
Then I will have a little more of a feel for the place.

    Bravo Marion for the review!

This would be a fun place for a (smallish) Yelp meetup.

I could go for a meet up there, it would be fun and good eating.
I have never seen kids there, but I am sure it is kid friendly, it is just a little hole in the wall kind of place ( but clean)

There were two kids when we were there - but I think they were the owner's.

Being Cuban and from Miami I will have to investigate this today for lunch or tomorrow.  There was only one real Cuban restaurant here in sac a long time ago.  It was near sac state and University Drive and unfortunately it closed down because people did not know the difference between Cuban food and Mexican food.  Surprisingly there are some great Cuban restaurants in Las Vegas and priced extremely well.  Not like the one in San Fran that charges you $25 just for black beans and rice.

Alright me and the girlfriend had to check it out earlier this week and I have to say that this place is the real deal. Being Puerto Rican (PR and Cuban cuisines are quite similar), and being raised by my Lita (Grandmother) this is home cooked Cuban food, not Americanized like some other restaurants dialing it down for American taste buds.

It is a family affair, with various brothers and kids helping with the chores and cooking. The owner is really friendly and the food is delicious. Not as good as my Lita's, but then again you can't beat that old Puerto Rican lady. They have tostones, moros y cristianos, papas fritas, lechon, etc. etc. etc. All fresh and housemade. Food is cheap and we plan on coming here quite frequently. I know I need to post a review, but I am so behind on posting... =P

Is Sol Cubano still around?  I know I'm going to have a craving soon.

I just had a bunch of Cuban pastry and a couple of sandwiches in Burbank at Portos.  I'm pretty sure they are not going for authentic perfection, just fast yum.  But it was great.  It's a restaurant that would do quite well in Sactown if they wanted to bring it up here, there are only 2 in LA area.

Its still around and was pretty good.  The only thing I would advise against is the sampler platter - you're better off ordering the items individually for what you want because the small size of the meat makes you feel kind of cheated compared to the normal dinners.

I've been there and it was tantastic. The sandwiches are the same price as the subway next door and 10x better (and bigger, too).
