  1. I saw that on another site. I was impressed with the 20-year-old kid who tried to intervene. He was pissed at first but he regained his composure and kept things civil, and his pals followed suit (for the most part). A leader in training? He was the alpha in the face of all those tech dudes who are clearly older than he is.

Has parks and recs posted signs there alerting the longtime players about the Tuesday/Thursday change?

I would rather not say what's on my mind. But certain people, I think have a screwed up DNA.

  2. Aside from the "Who cares about the neighborhood" jerk, I don't think these guys are particularly TERRIBLE. They just don't seem to "get it" and came across to me as somewhat perplexed (in a pissy way, granted) throughout the exchange. Maybe after watching themselves on video they each had an "a-ha" moment.

I saw a reader comment on another site that rang true...that these dudes may have been technically correct but they were wrong "in spirit." I'm betting that in retrospect they wish they had risen above and been gracious.

    We'll see...

  3. One thing I'm confused about...at the end I can't tell whether they all actually agreed to play for the field? That's the impression I got, which would have been a relatively warm-and-fuzzy outcome.

  4. On the other hand, if *you* paid for a venue only to be told you can't use it, you'd be pissed too.

We here are a lot who throw hissy fits because "the waiter/waitress didn't ask us how our food was mid-meal."

  5. How about I pause mid-punch and ask you how your beating is going, Umerz???

    ;-p

  6. LMAO @ jilted she-devil ex-fiancee !!!

  7. But honestly, it's the fault of whoever the f*** is responsible for renting out the field.
If they take the money, they should at least be responsible for enforcing the rules instead of letting everyone fend for themselves.

Imagine if you were playing a softball game with some friends on a Thursday evening at your local field you've played all your life and a bunch of random dweebs whom you've never seen before came around with a piece of paper saying you had to leave in the bottom of the 5th inning with bases loaded.

    Fuck that.

And since when do you rent public park space on a phone ap? That's lame San Francisco!

  9. If not this, then that. Will be the same story no matter what. Unless something new turns up that prices the parks people were assholes, I don't have any sympathy for any of the outrage here. Bottom line: the girls had a major upgrade. It's still available for free for five of the seven days. Some body needs to pay for the upkeep. It didn't apart out of nowhere like magic, and it won't go on forever --- maintenance is required.

  10. * proves. Not prices.

  11. * field. Not girls. I hate this fucking google autocorrect.

  13. Though I do hope renting is not solely through the phone app. That is just very exclusionary.

Dropbox guys are my buds. Great guys. I was at this team building event which dropbox paid for. I was a bit late but by the time I got there I was informed that the kids would not leave the area which does not make sense at all. I felt bad for Dropbox because this was definitely planned and they invited outside developers like myself who are big in the biz to this event to make it special and these kids ruin it.

Jackson, the kids didn't "ruin" it. They didn't know the field was reserved... and got bullied in the middle of their game. Had they been notified beforehand, this wouldn't have happened. I'm glad the kids stood up for themselves.

Parks are reserved all the time. Sucks to pay for a place twice and not be able to use it because they got bullied by a bunch of kids.

27 dollars is the cost BJ. My dropbox buds paid the bill which procured ownership of the field from 7:00 to 8:00. Its as simple as that. If the charge for the field was more my buds would of paid the bill. We have the kind of cash that allows us this luxury. The point is that the bill was paid regardless of price and these hooligans decided that they were not going to allow us to use OUR field to get our FIFA on.

And watch the way you speak BJ. It is disgusting. There was no need to talk to Zena that way. Are you not able to articulate your words better?

I got the feeling a few were from around the neighborhood Rick. But I do think most came from other parts of the city. Most of the guys we came to play with do in fact actually live in the Mission.

The use of the area is negotiated every day where it happens. That's how it should be. $27 and a piece of paper from an "App" bullshit.  Another example of the fugin man - and I don't mean the bros/minions on the ground - doing a take-away. The gap keeps getting wider. Minions don't believe or may not realize they're doing any wrong because they perceive they're on the inside with information about the new "rules". They are automatons called into action by the political industrial complex. This is the borg. Its insidious. It has limited self-awareness. And its nothing new.

Civility comes with gentrification.  If you want to keep playing soccer whenever you want and forgo the reservation process, take that up with Parks & Rec.  Don't get pissed because your neighbors are following protocol.  All neighborhoods change and the Mission is changing for the better.  I still wouldn't be caught dead in that dump, but I admire the willingness of professionals to try to bring some civility to that area.  Sure it's unexpected and a huge departure from the status quo, but the status quo was horrible and will only be missed by the degenerates.

To be perfectly honest it had to be done. You don't want to lose potential customers so you give a seemingly sincere apology. They obviously do not need to nor do feel they should have to apologize but in the end to appease the masses and to continue the acquisition of new clients it just had to be done. It is as simple as that.

It is my hope and dream that this app will alleviate the suffering felt from both sides. Maybe through my app we can all work together and potentially earn some #cash.

TechCity has been known to romanticize the 60's Hippy movement. Mostly for reasons of tourism to which I fully understand and endorse. This movement changed the face of San Francisco and moved it towards what many of you now are looking back at in fondness. But what about those people from the early 60's and before that had lived in a very conservative San Francisco. I'm sure many of them did not want to let go of the city they knew and loved when the hippy movement took over the face of the city.

The moral to this story is that we live in an ever-changing world where life can be tough. You either get left behind or move forward with TechCity.

    Won't you join us?

If Jackson is a real player in the tech industry as eh claims then with all the resources and money he and his cronies have then why not give back to the community in which they have decided to crash for a while....next tech bust and you will be gone ,it has happened before and it will happen again.  You could pull your leaders together and probably find a way to get a new soccer field or community center  in a neighborhood of need and have a nice plaque in front of it with your name on it.

  10. It's unfortunate that Dropbox's name is unfairly pulled into this whole debacle when in truth it's about a two groups of people, and the parks & rec dept. Reminds me of the so called "CraigsList murderer." When juxtaposed with the mantra of "guns don't kill people; people kill people," the hypocrisy is thick.

It's just another excuse to bash another corporation. Dropbox didn't do anything wrong.

Dropbox is cool, they took a feature that already exists on your computer, set it up for you, added an icon to it and made millions. Good for them!

Cool. Does Jackson feed him treats and walk him over to Yukiko's place?

  12. That's how he nosed her crotch.

  13. Mooky, not Jackson.

Good for the kids.  City hall is exactly the right place to protest. A pay-for reservation system for a public park, especially in an urban neighborhood, is a terrible idea.  But not the fault of the "tech bros."
