I already use a couple of the places on Clement for essentials, but I'd like an alternative to Williams Sonoma, Sur La Table or Crate and Barrell for wine glasses, Silpats, that sort of thing. Anyone know of anywhere secret? You can whisper it to me...

Crate/Barrel Outlet in Berkeley on 4th (again, sorry, that's not the city, huh)

Tarjay actually carries Reidel glasses (!) - sorry, that's in Colma I guess..

Ross (yes, Ross) actually has *some* kitchenware that is worth buying- they had a few LeCreusets there a few months ago but they were too heavy for me to lift.. and I got a T-fal frying pan for $12 to replace my 2 year old one that was getting too old..

BBBeyond carries silpats, and you can use those 20% off coupons for discounts on almost everything but knives, cookware, and electronics.

and by Clement Street.... I am assuming you go to Kamei about as often as I do?

Ikea is always an affordable alternative

  1. there's a chef's warehouse in ssf, a stone's throw from the city--discount kitchen items and dinnerware.  lots of le creuset and other bakeware at a fraction of the cost.

If you're looking for place settings and stuff then I'd go to Bed Bath and Beyond.

I like to buy utensils, gadgets, and what not at the East Bay Restaurant Supply.  For small appliances, cookware, and cutlery, I see if Amazon is having one of their $25 off kitchenware orders of $125 or more deals, because with that discount combined with free shipping and no sales tax usually comes out to a good deal.  For dishware, I go to Ikea.  I have roommates and they break things.

Wow -- thanks everyone! And yes, I do go to Kamei pretty often. Miriam is really hard on the little garbage can we have in the kitchen. But if I was a student again, I'd buy all my dishes there.
