    WageWorks Memo...

    Dear Participant,

We want to make you aware that beginning with June elections participants in the Bay Area who load value directly to Clipper™ cards through an employer program are subject to a new monthly processing fee. The fee will be $2.00 per month. WageWorks is required to collect this fee and will pay 100% of it to the operator of the direct load program.

    [message truncated]

Did anyone else just receive this from WageWorks?

I called Clipper and they said they know nothing about this $2.00 monthly fee.

Leading question in the title?  What kind of race-troll are you?  lol.

Clipper card would go $15 negative and everyone was riding them down to -15.00 and buying a new one.

Sophia, I added that question mark solely for your benefit. It really blows my mind that you zoned in on it.

    You haven't been ignoring me.

Dan...It's just a matter of time.

I just switched back to blue BART tickets. I forgot that you get a 6% discount when you buy them through WageWorks, so I'm saving $9/month instead of spending an extra $2/month.

Yeah, I just received that too.  The auto-load was the only new feature about the clipper card that I liked.  Everything else is either the same as the old fast passes or a pain (e.g., having to tag when you get on the back of a Muni train).

@ Alex, just cause my "racist!" button is broken doesn't mean you're on the ignore list..

If you've got something good and relevant that someone else hasn't covered other than the baseless accusations of racism,  I'll respond to it.

And if you engage in hypocrisy, I'll call you on it. ;-)

Here's the Clipper "F" rating on the Better Business Bureau's website:

I too received this message, but from ADP. I believe it's actually a middle man who's responsible. ADP chose to refer to the culprit as the "company that operates the fare collection systems in the Bay Area", which sounds like they're trying to tiptoe around a more detailed explanation.

What pisses me off is that this is essentially the cost of doing business for these companies and they're trying to offload it to their end customer. They'll get away with it most cases because their charging the employees at large, not the decision maker (director of HR, etc.), who probably doesn't want to switch payroll & benefits providers over something like this.

    Got that message too

  1. I've been paying the $2 fee since March.
The $60 Fast Pass is before taxes, but the $2 upload fee is after taxes.
