I move to the US for a few weeks. Where should I exchange my Euros with minimum fees?

I will arrive in the US with a few thousand euros in my pocket (if not unwise). I think I will exchange them for dollars somewhere but not in the airport as they take huge fees. Where in the city should I go?

Hit the alley and exchange them at the 3 Card Monty table

Change them before you leave Europe. We never see euros over here.

Foreign exchange is a competitive market in Europe; not so here. So change your money over there, not over here, if you don't like excessive fees. But we will order up maybe $100 in euros from our bank before we go, just so we already have cash when we hit town.

A large bank or an Amex exchange (google Amex money exchange palo alto for example)

In Argentina you can't swing a dead cat without hearing a money seller... cambio cambio... but the blue rate and gov rate are much closer since the last election.

Mechanics Bank in downrtown SF will do it for you at the best rate possible. Still not a great rate. Your best bet is to leave your Euros at home, then use your bank card to get money from an ATM. That way your bank rate will be used.

If you can make it to the Central Valley, you can try changing your money at a Rabobank.
Bank of the West is actually a French-owned bank.
