    Hi,

I'm moving to Shanghai, China! Has anyone ever used any international movers before that they'd recommend again?

    :-)

    Thanks,
    Emily

    Emily,

I'll ping a friend for you, to see what he knows. He taught English in China for 9 months.

Are you going for a short time? Or for long term / moving everything???

    Cheerio,

    Mark

I didn't use movers, but I had all of my stuff placed on a pallet and shipped. Maybe that's a better route rather than actual movers because they'll end up going thru a shipper anyway.

    hi emily,
pat ryan here from pat ryan moving and storage. there's a company i've referred several times for international shipping to both friends and clients without hearing any negative feedback. having said that, please note that my company is not affiliated with them in any way so this is just a referral.
the company is called aris exports. they are based in san leandro.the contact there is isaac.
here's how it works:you bring your stuff (or hire somebody to bring your stuff) to their warehouse in san leandro and  they build a crate around it. you then end up paying for the density as opposed to the weight. so be selective in what you ship. for instance if you are shipping a large sofa thats worth less than a couple of hundred bucks it may make more sense to get rid of it here and buy a new one when you get there because you will be paying for the actual space it takes up.if this is a bigger move where you are willing to pay the cost of full packing and shipping, united have a good reputatipon for international moving. they are quite expensive and i've only ever really heard of people using them when it's a corporate move and the company is picking up the tab
    good luck with your move
