Anyone been through a kitchen remodel in an older home (and moved plumbing)? Could use your retrospective advice about the process and the name of an honest, preferibly non-absent-minded plumber. I'm beginning a look-see to find out more about moving plumbing from one wall to another as one component of the project. Heard it could be nightmarishly pricey.

if at all possible, try to leave the plumbing on the same wall, and work your design around it...the main problems have to do with re-routing the waste lines, not the supply lines, and the venting of them.  Any good contractor can explain better, and sometimes recommend good plumbers...get references and CHECK THEM.

    Yeah...I know, I know.
Complications arising from an adjacent ext. door that cuts the counter down to 22", instead of the standard 24", makes appliances jut out from the niches (not aesthetic) and cuts down on useable wall (cabinet space), and makes counterspace non-existant. Would be easiest to move the door over 2 inches to the left..but there may be a support beam there.
