Hi Yelpers - we were thinking of trying to pull together a large (1000+) outdoor event for all of Yelpland in the next month or two. Outside of Golden Gate Park, does anyone have any other ideas that might be suitable?

Would Phone Co. (ATT/SBC/PacBell, etc.) Park be an option?

SBC/PacBell/AT&T Park, they have events there all the time and have packages and will likely give Yelp a special deal.

The issue with Kezar is that they will not let you walk on the field, so the event would encompass only the stadium seats and the track area.  Trust me on this - they're VERY particular about the grass on the field!

I've also heard good things about events at SBC Park

We had a great time at Lake Merced for the clambake, but that was only 70 peeps. I dunno if could hold 14x that many people.

I love the Presidio and Crissy Fields.  Although Crissy Fields is tricky to find and parking can be limited too.

What exactly do you require?  Trees?  Picnic Area?  Ample parking?  Nearby bathrooms?  Access to electricity?  This can help narrow down the search.

I've done an event at AT&T Park for about 350-400 and they were brilliant. Everything from the catering to the use of the jumbotron to... just everything. They do charge extra, though, if you want to get out on the field (otherwise you get the warning track, dugouts, and club level), or you could pay to take some swings in the batting tunnels beneath the dugouts.

Wow, some great suggestions, we're looking at a few. Omid and anyone else, if you have a specific contact you've worked with and liked, feel free to email me at nish@yelp.com with their contact info.

We require a lot of things, that's what makes it tricky. We'd be bringing in a lot of beer, we'd probably have some form of music, we'll rent port-o-potties. We'll probably set up a few different sorts of fun games, that sort of thing. Parking is important too, but as with any of our events, people do tend to get there (good questions, Cris!).

Sounds like an amazing plan, Nish! : )

    - Stern Grove (you can reserve the area near that old house)
Easy parking, portopotties available, and the clubhouse ... i forget the name... is a cool space that you can rent out, too.

(Let us know, Nish, if you need any manpower help- I think among all of us on Yelp Talk, I'm sure you can find a few good men & women who would be willing to help out with logistics!)

McCovey Parking lot... That's where Rock The Bells is this year and where the first Love Parade ended.
    Positive: Holds lots of people.
    Negative: It's a parking lot.

Treasure Island. I don't know where they are having the musical festival on Treasure Island, but they are selling 10,000 tickets to it... So, that fits into your parameter.

How about hosting it on Rommy's ego..

    or his penis..

    both are enormous.

  1. I've been to houseparties that big in Atherton, Saratoga, Redwood City.  You've been working hard for your VCs, it's time they showed you the love back.  We'll promise not to desecrate the pool house, dock, or the stables...

Can you rent out something at Fort Funston, Fort Point, one of the piers?  The new Pier 1 1/2?  The Ferry Building somewhere?  I guess that's not big enough for Justin Herman Plaza or Yerba Buena but those would be sweeeeet.  Is there something at the Letterman complex, Criss Field, or elsewhere in the Presidio?  The meadow at Fort Mason?

Can you get the new Jesse Street park by the mint?  Will it be ready by then?  You must have some contacts there with Martin Builders and the restaurants that are going in there.  That could be epic.

Some rental mansions, libraries, gardens, and art centers in Marin too  But you would have to rent busses for the way there and back.  That might be a plus, really.  A chartered bus the way there and back helps people socialize, party, shows the love, and beats all the drunk driving Yelpers.  I may have some contacts at Bauers.  Everyone needs to be paid but all the limo companies could use the love of becoming the official Yelp favorite.

How many people can the San Francisco Spirit hold?  500?  800?  And what about that three story rental paddleboat that never seems to move?  I'd be careful about games, wouldn't want everyone running to one side of the boat at the same time.  Also the workers are unionized and kind of slow, so the cheezy joy is the event there, anything more complicated than a raffle and a gin and tonic could cause the motors to melt.

Thanks people (and thanks to those of you who pm'd me, offered to help out with logistics, etc.). I'll report back with any solid updates. Hopefully we'll be able to pull something off.
