Does anyone know a good handyman or service they can recommend? I need a general handyman who can handle a variety of projects from minor building repair, minor plumbing issues, painting, maintenance, help with purchasing and hauling items from hardware stores with truck, etc.
Any ideas where to search?
Thanks.11/16/2008 -

Yelp seems so much more reliable than the wild world of Craigslist... I am hoping to get recommendations of someone that Yelpers have done business with and can recommend.
I will check on Craigslist too - I am hoping to find a listing on Yelp for Handyperson services if you know of any you can recommend...
Thanks!!11/16/2008 -

I've been having the same problem. Craigslist handymen/women? How to evaluate them?
Word of mouth can be good. And there are Yelp reviews of handy people. However the highly-rated people in my area either don't offer those services anymore, or don't do specifically what I"m looking for (install curtain hardware in Emeryville).
It's hard to let just any old fool into my home.11/16/2008 -

I have used Handyman Rick with great success. He's out of Pleasant Hill and happily came down to see me in Albany. He's $85 an hour with a 1 hour minimum and no charge for travel time. Maybe a little pricey, but he's really good and practical Michael Your Plumber out of Berkeley is also great.

I guess I should have specified San Francisco. Thanks for the info - I probably need someone based in the City b/c of commute charges.

OK.
If anyone knows a good handyperson, please message me... I'm sure there are reliable out there who could use the work. I would love to hear of anyone who has a handy-person that they like.
Thanks.11/16/2008 -

I've heard this was a good resource, considering using it myself:

well if you guys are looking for someone who is versatile, reliable, fast and affordable....my best recommendation is actually my Uncle - Soto Enriquez. He lives in the city but has done work from Daly City all the way up to Fairfield. He literally built/remodeled 50% of my parents' house in las vegas single handedly. And when I say he's fast....I mean he re-tiled our whole kitchen and dining area within an hour. He also does some plumbing, electrical, painting, carpet, dry wall....you name it and I'm sure he's done it. A couple weeks ago he installed a ceiling fan and 3 curtain rods in awkward places for my co-worker in less than an hour. His pricing is flexible so you can just make an offer and see if he'll accept it. He also doesn't charge for travel time either. Here is his number: 415-823-8083. Just tell him that Holly referred you.

Try Glen Smith of The Carpenters Hands. He is highly recommended by my Real Estate Agent and my Home Inspector.
