    I am headed to Sunnyvale near Los Altos. Whats "hot" in the nightlife, seen and be seen restaurants and is there a swimming pool bar anywhere in the area that is successful (not sucking)

    Go check out Los Altos Grill. Great food, and they used to have no corkage fee. Don't know if that's still the case. San Francisco does have nightlife and more to do, just be aware that it comes with the stench of pee and be sure to step over the syringes.

    I think it has that reputation. I never sit at the bar, so I haven't noticed.

    Sunnyvale is the married engineer's Valhalla. The hottest spot is either their original Price Club Costco, or the haunted Toys R Us.

    The other thing to remember is that no matter how hot it gets during the day, cloudless summer skies mean that the earth flings its heat back into space after dark.   And the ubiquitous columnar outdoor heater means things are either too hot or too cold.
