When I drink ice water, and the ice is not even that old, when I finish the water and the ice melts, it always tastes stale. Even though it started as the same water as the water I'm drinking, it's nowhere as tasty.

    Any guesses why?

This website states there's 4 conditions that can make ice taste bad, including other food present I the freezer:  products.geappliances.co…

  1. When water turns to ice, a lot of the minerals and salts either seep away or are squeezed out.

"There are four (4) conditions that can cause an odor or taste in your ice:

Open food containers, or spilled foods
Low ice usage. Old or stale ice will absorb food odors.
Bad water supply. Sulfur, algae, minerals, salt, etc. in the water supply can cause bad tasting water which results in bad tasting ice.
Old water filter. If you have a water filtration system, the filter should be replaced every 6 months or as recommended by the manufacturer."

The reasons why shaved p can taste stale is a whole other thread.

Home ice always has air in it, while shaved ice starts with a block of pure water ice.

Water always tastes better cold.  When the water isn't so cold, it doesn't taste as good.

Endora M is correct after I placed two boxes of Baking Soda in my fridge. The ice was odor free even when melted as Michael stated .  It took me a while to figure it out because nothing seems old nor was there an odor .  I'm curious if when you close the door does the light go out ?   ( just kidding )
