I have an inspiron 1000 and for the past 6 months.  I've had some popups...but no major problems. Two weeks ago my computer starting acting up and I stupidly downloaded SPY Doctor from CNET. Anyways, it prevented popups and other issues but slowed down my computer..now my computer doesn't work and randomly shuts down saying something about hardware problems (it's a blue screen)..I was able to get on & remove SPY doctor..but my computer is basically not working/turning on

The computer is out of warranty and I'm wondering if you guys know of any places that will fix it?? I think dell does online customer support..but I think just for the support  ( and not actually fixing it)!

    thanks!

backup the data that you can to a disk or another drive (if available), then just reinstall a clean version of your OS.  you might be experiencing some issues with your memory, too, so you might want to check that out, too.

Dell tech will help.  Call them.  Never hurts to try.

Since it's out of warranty, you'll pay up the wazoo for Dell to repair/diagnose.

Here's some tips to get you started...

Let's start with the issues of the notebook not turning on.

First , make sure there's no frays on the AC adapter, that both pieces are plugged in securely.

Take out the battery, plug in the AC adapter. We'll eliminate the battery as a cause, just run the notebook from the outlet.

Turn on the notebook. Does it power up? Is the power light on? Does anything appear on the screen?

If there's no power light, nothing on the screen, I would try to reseat the memory. Flip over the notebook, unscrew the lid to the memory, remove, reinsert, cover. Try to power it on now.
If still nothing, it might be the AC adapter. Do you know anyone with the same type of notebook to borrow their AC adapter? Otherwise, you could try a universal power adapter from Microcenter / Fry's.

If you do see the Dell logo on the screen, that means the computer is booting up but there's something wrong w/ the OS. Can you press F8 to load the Last Known Good configuration to see if this works?
