Some cuisine tends to be most popular in particular areas.  For example, Seattle has over 400 teriyaki restaurants, TX is known for its beef brisket, AL has Guthries chicken fingers, etc.  Does VC have any type of comparable local cuisine?

    Try some xiaolongbao, or ramen

Really? Xiaolongbao is pretty popular there? And Ramen seems to be more popular there than in many other cities?  Can you recommend and good local places to score some good ramen as well as good Xiaolongbao under 1 roof?

The highest concentration of ramen shops is at Robson & Denman, I'd suggest Santouka or Kintaro. There's decent xlb less than a block away at Dinesty.

Thanks Jack.  I'll have ramen for 1 meal and buns for another meal. Even in Seattle where there are hundreds of Teriaki and Pho restaurants the vast majority of those restaurants serve either 1 or the other.

Oh xiaolongbao are the soup dumplings, not bao buns. There are some places serving good bao buns, like Bao Down. There's a lot of great Asian food here.

I noticed that Jack referred to xiaolongbao as "xlb".  Is it fairly common for people up there to use the short name?  For example, if I worked up there and asked a coworker if they wanted "xlb" for lunch would they know what I was talking about?  Or is "xlb" generally just used as shorthand in written communication?

Wow the yelp pics for Santouka and Kintaro look outstanding.  I'll definitely check them out.  Thanks for the rec!

I would order using xiaolongbao, not xlb.

Also hit up some legit Japanese places. Sushi Bar Maumi is unique for Vancouver but there are lots of quality places in town.
