Every once in a while I'd get a craving for a corn dog. Unfortunately, due to my lack of knowledge for corn dog whereabouts, that craving is usually not satisfied.

Does anyone know where to get good corn dogs in Vancouver?! Quick food places are preferred; I don't want to wait 30 minutes in a restaurant for a corn dog... however, if it's really good, maybe I'll consider!

The Fair? lol....dear God. I went during Fright Nights; got a corn dog at that familiar shack at the end of the covered row. WORST corn dog ever. It had a weird taste and I chucked it after two bites. It took two hours for the bad taste to leave my mouth. It seemed like the fryer oil was WAY overdue for changing. Try 7-11.

  1. These two places definitely serve Corn Dogs:

    1) What's Up? Hot Dog!
    2) Cannibal Cafe

Thanks, Colin! Do you know if they're any good?

  2. The Rumpus Room also has corn dogs but I've yet to try it.

I personally didn't like the one at What's Up. It was one of the worst corn dogs I've ever had. It was fried for too long, completely greasy (I know it's deep fried but when you bite you shouldn't taste oil saturating your mouth), lacking in flavor etc. Sorry to disappoint! The ones at the fair were 1000 times better. I usually eat 3-4 at the fair in a day.

  3. @hannah I have no idea if they are good, sorry.  I saw the serving from Cannibal Cafe being enjoyed by a strangers table once, they were served as a handful of mini corn dog pops. I'm similar to @Arleen that I really only gorge on them at the PNE....last time I had one that had a nuclear temperature hot pickle inside with the wiener, it was mind-blowingly good!

  4. @Colin - that sounds dangerous yet exciting. Yum. I hope you had ketchup on it so it was sweet/tangy, hot, sour, savory *drool*.

A pickle corn dog?! That's amazing, I've been wondering if we had these here! Arleen and Colin - is the Fair open year round?

  5. @hannah No, that particular Pacific National Exhibition fair only runs for like a month through August/Sept.  Its a huge food event to-do every year though!
@Arleen It was dangerous! The liquid inside the pickle was basically boiling hot.  I dipped it in both mustard and ketchup to try the taste.  It probs would have tasted good dipped in just about anything.

@Colin L. I had that pickle corn dog at the PNE as well! It was super... girth-y, but delicious!

@Colin Aw man... Guess I just missed it then. Something to look forward to next year!

  6. @Jennie hahah girth-y, total was

  7. So much for reading on my phone.  I thought I read girthy horndog. My eyes must be all buggered out

Sounds like you had a bad experience at Whats Up Arleen.  I am not affiliated in any way but have been there a couple of times and not been disappointed.  It is a little bit off the mainstream as it is a gourmet dog with cornbread batter.
(at least it is not a chicken dog... - which seems to be the growing trend)
That being said, the dogs at the PNE (& Cloverdale) are tough to beat - with a nice pancake batter.  My son is now hooked on them as well.

  8. Summer time @PNE

  9. We should all be very thankful the fair isn't year round or else we might need bigger belts!

@ John W. - sounds like I need to go back. Their lackluster hot dogs might have tainted my opinion of the corn dog.

What's Up HAVE changed their meat supplier and they do have such a cool safe vibe.Haven't been back for an update but very cool restaurant, lively lovely staff and excellent tunes and decor.
