I am desperate to find an amazing japanese place that is open for lunch. Any suggestions?

To help, I base my japanese food on the consistent quality at Hachibei.

Can't really tell, signage looks similar, but I really don't know.

There's also Tokiwa on Oak at 21st. Small, busy at lunch, but fantastic. (Japanese chef and staff)

I'm with Sam on Aki...  seems like a lot of people are just throwing up sushi places, and really... there's so much more to Japanese food than what a sushi place can offer.   Robata.... robata... robata!   But they have noodles, soups, and one of my personal fav's...  tonkatsu (think weiner schnitzel Japanese style).   It's downtown, it's near a lot of offices... so it gets CRAZY busy at lunch time...  but it'd be hard to find a more real Japanese experience (quite well established too...)

  1. Shrio and if you on the street Jappa Dog does something unique

Guu Garden is an izakaya that does some very nice lunch specials:  yelp.ca/biz/guu-garden-v…

If ramen is your thing, then Motomachi is good:  yelp.ca/biz/motomachi-sh…

If Japanese cafe is your thing, Marulilu is nice:  yelp.ca/biz/marulilu-caf…

Homestyle Japanese food what you are looking for?  Hi Genki does nice lunch sets (in an odd institutional type setting):  yelp.ca/biz/hi-genki-jap…

And if quick sushi lunch is your thing, then Zero One (yelp.ca/biz/zero-one-sus…) or Sushi Mart (yelp.ca/biz/sushi-mart-v…) both can do the trick.
