I have been stuck at home for the past four days with the most evil of colds.

Moved yesterday from the holistic remedies and brought out the big guns: extra strength no name neo-citron and a Harry Potter marathon. But I can't seem to kick it...

Anyone have a magical at home remedy that works for them? Or a suggestion on what I should marathon next if I am stuck in bed another day?

So far i've been alternating neo-citron hot totties, fresh ginger & apple juice and a concoction of ginger tea, garlic, lemon & cayenne pepper.
And TV... lots and lots of TV.

Aww Jody :"( Hope you feel better soon! If I'm super congested I'll boil some water, stir in some vapo rub, make a towel cave over the bowl and my head and inhale the steam. I also try and change my bed sheets and step outside for some fresh air so I don't marinate in my grossness. If your throat is sore, my roommate swears by gargling saltwater or mouthwash. Wishing you a speedy recovery : )

Damn that sucks because I was out last week with it too.  I did all of the above and what helped me the most for my congestion was going outside to get fresh air!  Otherwise, lots of hot liquids and rest is the best you can do to treat the symptoms.

We must have caught it at the Fanclub event.

That totally sucks. I had the flu couple weeks ago and it was awful. I hate taking meds unless I really have to and the following remedy helped.

Having a nice, hot bath really helped and crawling under the warm blanket.
Lemon with honey in hot water. Lots of it.
    Lots of rest.

I hope you feel better soon!!!

Chicken udon soup loaded with hot sauce.  Burn the cold out!  Also, anything spicy from Hawkers.  Eat at home because you will be a gross snotty mess by the end of the meal, but your sinuses will be clear.

    Feel better!

Kat's remedy reminded me of a home remedy koreans do sometimes. I've never personally tries it but with a shot glass of soju (korean hard liquor) sprinkled lot of red chilli pepper. Drink it down and it supposedly clears your sinus.

Double vodka Caesar (3 of them). If it can cure a hangover it can cure anything. Or you'll just be hammered enough to not know you are sick. Either way you win.

    garlic soup works wonders
add coconut milk and finely diced cabbage, maybe some potatoes
Sage, rosemary and thyme all have anti viral or fungal compounds (as well as just about any other shrub or spice you want to throw in there) I made mine with mushroom vegetable stock but you could use any kind.
    cleared me in 3 days!

@JN - nyquil does weeeiirrdd things to my head too. Though, tranquilized sounds quite restful right about now... I hope you too feel better soon!

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I just got back from the bodega with sage, rosemary, garlic, ginger and manuka honey. Time to start concocting...

Have you tried any Chinese medicines?

They are all the rage on the forum right now. But choose for your self.

PS. I don't get sick. I got most of that out of the way when I was young.  Get better.

@JN - I made soup. Just made a broth with veggie broth and added some veggies. It was tasty. And i'm just taking manuka honey on its own.

@Kat - hahaha - yeah. Round two of Hawkers sweat therapy.

    Day seven. Ick.

..awww. I hope you feel better soon.

Not to be superstitious, but maybe dressing up as your own voodoo doll and sticking yourself repeatedly w/a pin wasn't such a great idea, no matter how cute it was....

I feel your pain.  I've been off work with the stomach flu all week.  Made it in to work for an hour today before I had to run home again because it came back again.  My fault for eating regularly right away...clearly my stomach wasn't ready for that.

    Feel better!
