Well beloved Yelp community, this born and raised Vancourite is moving to the big city (yes the city that some unnamed Vancourites often grow up being genetically predisposed to hate- Toronto).

So I'm starting to come up with my top 10 restaurants/foods I need to go to or eat before I go. The plus side is that Toronto does have some amazing places which will keep me happy and full!

My list in short and vague so far..but wings from phnom phen, monty mushroom burger at white spot, breakfast at Naam, and many baked goods are that list too (too bad the PNE wasn't open- I need my mini donuts). Any suggestions welcomed. Or what would your top 10 be before leaving this beautiful city?

Oh, I forgot to add Guu to my own list (mental note).

Grayce: Am really curious as to your final list.  I'm moving to Toronto as well - at least for a short while, possibly longer.

I am planning to eat sushi by the unit of measure most commonly referred to as a 'fuckton'.

As for Guu - there's one in Toronto:

  1. Guu Toronto is not as good as ours here just FYI.

Omg gonna miss you Grace and the competition on the Vancouver  check-ins :(

Eat a load ton of sushi before you leave as you will be missing it. You will miss a lot of great Chinese seafood dishes as well. But I heard they have great XLB.

I don't like Guu at all, either, but that's me. I just realized that To has way better Italian there than we do so go to Miku or any seafood place instead. (Bue Water?) I second Dru.

I just had the best meal EVER at Hawksworth last night, but I ate at the bar. Waaaay more fun. Good luck. Any place with seafood in yyz won't be as good as ours, fyi. :)

  2. Try to get a donut from Cartems before you go. They've just opened a pop-up shop recently in Gastown. They sell out every day, though - so you must get there early!

Absolutely must eat at Cioppino's - my favourite! Get the pappardelle - you won't be disappointed.

It depends on what type of food you like, but sushi in Toronto (as others have said) is not even close to the quality you'll get here.

Try Coma Food Truck (Korean BBQ) or Roaming Dragon - amazing street food.

The tiramisu at Cosca Restaurant is worth getting as well. Enjoy!

La Taqueria, the Teahouse, japadog, motomachi, bubble tea and dim sum!

Fish Taco at Tacofino food truck.

    Devils on Horseback at Pourhouse.

If you don't have time to get to Vij's, try Rangoli next door. If in Richmond, lunch at Tandoori Kona- Some might argue it's the best $8 you will spend on lunch in the GVRD.

  3. Mangal Kiss food truck on W Georgia, outside the Art Gallery. Greek is  different in TO, so if you have a fave Greek taste here, load up. Any salmon dish at Joe Fortes. Nanaimo bars.

I think our coffee is better here, also.

Although I live in Vancouver, there are some of these spots that even myself I have to hit, therefore, I compiled the information for myself and will make a bucket list of must eat places in Vancouver before I leave for Caochella. I set Coachella as my culinary deadline for more than 1 reason, the primary being, LA has some hot spots for must eats and I want to do a comparison between the regions in preparation (yes that is the foodie in me).

I had the The tiramisu at Cosca Restaurant........OMG, that is all I can say.

I lived in TO and really enjoyed it although I'm a Vancouverite through and through.
There are lots of great places out there, but it also seems that Vancouver has been getting the spotlight on food these days for Canada.
You'll like it out there alot, until the humidity and then the extreme cold kicks in. :)

Thanks Larry, I have my eye on the weather in TO like a hawk. Looks like they are having warmer days than we are right now. Hope that stays around for when I get there in mid April!

If you had to go for a place that serves something to die for. I would suggest trying out French Made Baking, they do a good job. There's also Footo Delights which makes some excellent croissants. Dinesty is one of my favourites that I go back again and again.

Well I went to Flying Tiger yesterday to have my favourite duck confit crepes and WOW..I might need to squeeze in another visit before I go. Guu is this Friday, and I've had 4 pieces of Bienenstich from the Brekka bakery in two weeks (I keep offering to bring my own cake to my going away parties!). More to come...

You gotta check out Sushi Nanaimo on Hasting and Nanaimo. Definitely something you will miss out on if you don't try it before you leave.
As of the mini donuts that you were talking about. If you are still here for the the month you can try finding that at Richmond Night Market.

I've been to Mississauga (30 mins South from TO) several times over the years to see family and they have really good chinese restaurants. So if you get a craving for good solid chinese food, it's worth the trip. Can't speak for other cuisines though. Hope that helps. Safe journey!
