Anyone know a good site that lists which Vancouver restaurants offer sustainable seafood? I know which fish to avoid, but which places are consciously relying on responsible fishing practices? I think this tool is in dire need.. at least for myself.

It would be nice to know of these as well. I learned also that the Ocean Wise stamp can be deceptive and doesn't always mean it's sustainable! I stick with what my Seachoice app on my Iphone says.

I print out the Sea Choice foldable guide: seachoice.org/files/pdf/…
They also have one for sushi!  Although that one depresses me since there's basically nothing left for me to eat.

The Vancouver Aquarium has these guides available to pick up as well.  They were at the Spot Prawn festival, so I got some there.

Try checking out David Suzuki's foundation and website.  They are likely to have good information, too.

Thanks Kat, I don't have that guide, I have both of the Oceanwise ones, but the info for them is often being re-done as studies come out. But I was looking for a business index... for now it's all word of mouth (Go Fish is good, Blue Water, Nuba, etc).. and I try to tell if they are sustainable based on their selections. But for sushi restaurants it is tough to find, huh? I feel like only the higher-end restaurants can afford to consider this option. As a side note, I hear Costco is really bad with its fishing practices. Makes sense if it does wholesale, I guess, but Loblaws isn't as bad (it's a grocery store chain in Ontario).

Superstore is part of the Loblaw group, and they have made a lot of changes, and have a plan to make their products even more sustainable.  While I normally hate shopping at big store like that, I have grown quite fond of Superstore.

I don't know of a list other than the Ocean Wise one, and I have found that it isn't reliable, either.  I don't know why they support places that continue to offer really bad choices with one or two okay choices.  Anything with prawns and shrimp (unless spot prawns or side stripe shrimp) are typically really awful choices.

Kits daily kitchen is being responsible with its choices, but their menu changes every day and may not always have a seafood option.

Sea choice also has an app for iPhone and I assume android users. It shows all of the seafood species and gives a rating on how sustainable it is.

Downloaded the sea choice app earlier this week, handy thing.  Trying to stay local for starters.  BC spot prawns are a good choice, bought some off the boat in Steveston last wknd, they're so delish, like little lobster tails.
I'm pretty sure Coast is a good call.  I too, would like to find out more about where and how my sushi joints get their catch.  Kits Sushi promos when their salmon are wild caught as opposed to farmed, but I know the debate continues....
