Let's try & get organized to show Vancover Yelps that we can host a UYE right here in good old Victoria.
Just remember this event is for all of us & to make Victoria Yelp even better!

Like I said in this thread: yelp.ca/topic/victoria-c…

"Maybe we could have an evening of coffee and introductions at QV (QV coffee, on Government and Fisgard) ? It's central, big, and good for groups?"

    Hi Beth
I'm just trying to see if anyone is interested in a Vic UYE & to at least get a list of names started for those that are interested in a UYE in the new year.
It looks like it will be a struggle ---

Anyway Season's Greetings to Everyone in the Yelp community!

I think there are more Yelpers in Victoria, hiding in the woodwork, but the Talk threads may not be know about/utilized too much yet. I think you can count on interest (if not necessarily commitment, given time dependencies) from me, you, Brad, and I imagine Christine and maybe Jen, too. It's a start!

What exactly would we "do" at a UYE?

Sounds intriguing but haven't you spelled "rye" incorrectly?  Please fill Paul the Barber and me in.

Count me in if I'm allowed and if I'm there!!  I'm there every other week, 8 days a month :D

    Victoria rocks!!  Vancouver blows!!

A UYE is an Unofficial Yelp Event. So basically, we meet each other and talk-- usually at a restaurant so we can all eat and write a new review! :)

I'm free most weekends-- when is everyone else free?

I'll be up there next Sunday (not tomorrow sunday but 8 days from now sunday)

I could rope in a couple of Victoria Yelpers who wouldn't likely be reading these posts, so I'd count for 2 or 3 more than myself, and it is VERY annoying  that all of the events are in Vancouver.

Count me for 2. I'll be away till March but weekends definitely would work best for me.

I'll be coming in on the Coho Sunday/noon if you get something together - I'll check the old ladies comuter when I get in.

    Hello everyone -
I talked to Crystal & she thinks its a great idea to have a UYE here in Victoria.
She has said to just let her know when & she will fully support us.
The only problem I can see is how do we get more Yelp members interested?
We need more than the 13 or so mentioned aready.

    What is Yelp?

Heres an example of a Yelp Party
    youtube.com/watch?v=eKpy…

Just remember this UYE is for all of us!
    Thank you

Would it help if we add this event into the Victoria Weekly Subscription ? Maybe it will round up some interested parties.

Why do we need more than 13 or so?  We could just pick a place and a night; the first informal Victoria Yelp event doesn't have to be huge.  The more the merrier but a dozen is fun too.

I can't do Sunday evening, but have fun! When I lived in Toronto, most of the UYEs didn't have more than 13 attendees.

In that case I shell leave it up to you people to make your own arrangements. I hope your UYE turns out well.

    Er.. okay then.
Anyhow, it seems like this Sunday would work out for most (other) people. The next step is to pick a venue. Suggestions? Should it be a lunch, dinner, or just some coffee? It'd probably work out best if it's dinner at a place that isn't too busy-- you'd need a restaurant where people can come and go,

So far, it's already 11 people who are interested if you count:
    Larry
    Beth
    Brad + 2
    Paul
    Binners
    Dingle
    Rita
    Jason + 1

I bet that would make a good start to a great UYE. I am sure once this starts there's more who wants to come along... right ?

I wish I could be there for whatever you guys come up with. Don't worry if there's less people. Lots of yelpers, me included, plan lots of "UYE's" here in Vancouver and we get anywhere from 2-20 people. Bottom line is a UYE is an awesome way to check out a new place or revisit a fave and to meet some cool people!

And when you've settled on a place and date, let me know, I'll happily send you all some schwag! Who wants a Yelp tote bag?

Me. I want a Yelp tote bag because I love Yelp ! LOL.

Why don't we do it at the Bard & Banker?  It's big enough to allow for some flexibility with respect to numbers, centrally located, and the food is surprisingly good; I can personally vouch for the pizzas and the bison burger.

Sounds like a #tweetup and I attend lots of those.  We usually have a biz like one in the morning and a more social one in the evening a few times a month.  Sometimes there are spontaneous #tweetups too.  Count me in, a UYE sounds fun. - time and place?

I'll second that ! Bard & Banker sounds like an great place to hold the UYE. Nothing better than pizzas and burgers.

Sounds good! I can "tote"ally send some totes and other schwag. Can someone PM me with the time/date and I'll have the schwag delivered to Bard & Banker! You'll have to have a ceasar with beef jerky for me - so good at Bard and Banker!

I was going to suggest this Sunday but that's Canada vs. USA, so maybe not such a good idea...

It might not be a bad idea to schedule this for after the Olympics being that a lot of us might be in Vancouver or Whistler over the next week or so.

I have talked to Crystal and will organize something at Bard's for very soon.

sadly... Victoria doesn't have any events board. Yeah we're off to Vancouver on Sunday too.

Tonight was Victoria's first, of hopefully many UYEs. Okay so the numbers weren't there, but it was total fun comparing favorite Victoria haunts. My vote...success and yes, please I'll have another. Until next time folks.

Hi guys!  After trying to recover an old Yelp membership that I logged into from time to time when I was abroad, I have admitted defeat thanks to one too many unique passwords (abcdefg, 123456?) and have started a brand new spanking account.  As a Victoria-ite and fellow Yelp lover I'm pumped to see lots of buzz on here.  Though I'm now in Vancouver, I do hop back from time to time and would love to see the UYE ball keep rollin'.  Up up and away Yelp Victoria and a pleasure to meet all you guys! :)
