Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles has had an amazing couple of months leading up to the Super Bowl on Sunday.

He began the season as the backup QB, but took over in December after the Eagles' starting quarterback—then–MVP candidate Carson Wentz—was injured. Everyone though Philly was finished. But Foles has performed admirably, and has led the Eagles to its first Super Bowl since 2004.

The Super Bowl isn't what's most important to him, though. Instead, it is his wife, Tori Foles (née Moore), and their daughter, Lily, who was born last year. Foles talked about their prominence in his life at a press conference ahead of the game, tearing up in the process.

"That's the most important thing," the quarterback said. "When I think about this journey and everything, I get home and.… I get to see her. I get to see my wife. I see her and my wife, just in her face and in her mannerisms, that's what it's about. I know that every time I step on the field, every single thing I do, there's going to be some days she looks and wants to know who her daddy was and what he did."

Moore and Foles's journey as a couple began at the University of Arizona. Foles was the quarterback of the football team, while Moore was a setter on the volleyball squad. They have a classic meet-cute story.

"She was the first person I actually ever saw at the University of Arizona," Foles told The Press of Atlantic City in 2014. "I was going to my [football] physical. I remember walking down the stairs and thinking, 'Wow, this might be the most gorgeous person I've ever seen.' But when you're at the University of Arizona, everybody's always talking about the women there. We didn't date in college, but we were in the same group of friends and we became really good friends. It was one of those things where at some point the good Lord took the shades off both our eyes, and we just started talking and it grew into something that was always there, but we never knew it. It's crazy. I couldn't be more happy."

The two were married in 2014, have a baby daughter and have celebrated Foles leading the Eagles to the Super Bowl. But their journey together hasn't always been easy.

Tori, who worked with Nike Inc. in 2014, wrote a blog post for a site called The Increase Women about suffering from an illness that causes lightheadedness. It's called Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome and Lyme disease. In his Super Bowl press conference, Foles described spending a month in the hospital with her and how he now draws strength from her struggle and willpower to regain her health.

In her blog post, Tori described her faith and the process of embracing the unusual NFL lifestyle. "We've been on a wild journey in this NFL life, but we are blessed to be in the situation we are in," she wrote. "We've learned it is best to just embrace this crazy lifestyle and enjoy the process that God is constantly crafting."

Sunday that ride is likely to get even more wild, one way or another.
