PROVIDENCE, RI � The RI Department of State Elections Division is today issuing a reminder of the filing period for delegate candidates to file Declarations of Candidacy and Pledge of Support forms, taking place Wednesday, January 31 through Thursday, February 1 at 4 p.m.
Delegates elected through the Presidential Preference Primary process serve as delegates at the Democratic and Republican National Conventions to select a presidential candidate. The National Committee of each political party determines the number of delegates and alternates that are elected from each of Rhode Island's two congressional districts. The Republicans will also elect statewide delegates. The rules of each political party control the method of delegate selection.
In accordance with party rules, the Democrat and Republican parties in Rhode Island will apply the results of the April 2, 2024 Presidential Preference Primary in assigning their delegates to their respective 2024 National Conventions. Each party's Delegate Selection Plan is available online here.
Candidates who intend to run as a delegate candidate to a national convention must file a Declaration of Candidacy, as well as the Pledge of Support form for their party, by the filing deadline at the RI Department of State's Election Division, located at 148 W. River St. in Providence. Nomination papers for delegates will be available for pick up on the day after they file.

Once they have declared, delegate candidates have until 4:00 p.m. on February 6 to submit their nomination papers to local boards of canvassers. Delegate candidates must obtain 150 signatures of eligible voters in order to qualify for the Presidential Preference Primary ballot. Signature counts will also be updated on the 'View Declared Candidates' webpage as they are available.

El Departamento de Estado de RI Emite un Recordatorio Sobre la Fecha L�mite para la Presentaci�n de Candidatos a Delegados
PROVIDENCE, RI � La Divisi�n de Elecciones del Departamento de Estado de Rhode Island emite hoy un recordatorio que el periodo de presentaci�n para los formularios de Declaraci�n de Candidatura y Declaraci�n de Apoyo de los candidatos a delegados, es desde el mi�rcoles 31 de enero hasta el jueves 1 de febrero a las 4:00 p.m.
Los delegados elegidos a trav�s del proceso de las Primarias de Preferencia Presidencial act�an como delegados en las Convenciones Nacionales de los Partidos Dem�crata y Republicano para elegir a un candidato presidencial. El Comit� Nacional de cada partido determina el n�mero de delegados y suplentes que son elegidos de cada uno de los dos distritos del congreso de Rhode Island. Los Republicanos tambi�n elegir�n sus delegados estatales. Los reglamentos de cada partido pol�tico controlan el m�todo de selecci�n de sus delegados.
De acuerdo con sus reglamentos, el partido Dem�crata y Republicano de Rhode Island utilizar�n los resultados de las Primarias de Preferencia Presidencial del 2 de abril del 2024 para asignar a sus delegados a sus respectivas Convenciones Nacionales del 2024.
