The National Executive of CAMRA have undertaken a review of branch boundaries and have decided that no branch can straddle a new regional boundary.

Below is a letter from Brendan Southcot, former chairman of Herts & Essex Border Branch. His branch, like Southport & West Lancs is impacted by the boundary review. The letter is self explanatory;

My Name is Brendan Sothcott, ex-chairman of Herts & Essex Border Branch CAMRA. I was forced to resign that post on 16 July when instructed by the regional director to close the branch by the end of the year because it straddled the new Regional Boundary. Having been the Branch Chairman since 2001 and having built the branch from dormant to active and healthy, I was not going to be part of the planned closure and break up. Bit like mopping up the blood from your own execution. I am writing to all the published committee members of similar branches, threatened with the axe, To try and make sense of the mess, I have created a online petition to show the National Executive the extent of the damage the branch closures is doing, and the anger members on the ground are feeling. The Petition is Here
If you think you can support it, please sign it, and pass onto to others for signing. If you think it is not appropriate, no problem, thanks for reading this far and no hard feelings. Wording of petition: -
We the undersigned have noted that the Regional Review Group have not, in our opinion, adequately consulted with members of CAMRA or not considered the feedback before enacting the review. This is particularly in respect of forcing through the "No exceptions" rule on the closure and/or splitting of any branch that crosses one of the new regional boundaries. We, therefore, require the National Executive to pause the implementation of the Regions Review group report, especially in regard to the closure or splitting of branches crossing regional borders. The Regions review group only to continue following a thorough independent review of the findings, communications and governance of the group. An agreement that any branch identified as crossing a new regional boundary will be able to undertake a vote themselves on whether they continue as a single branch, reporting to a Single Regional director of their choice, or take a course of action decided by the branch that suits their situation best. The National Executive to respect the decision of the branch.
Many thanks
Brendan Sothcott
