1986 (Golf): At the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio - Bob Tway wins his 1st and only major championship at the PGA Championship after shooting a 1-under 70 in the final round to win by 2 strokes over Greg Norman. Tway entered the tournament at 10-1 to win the title as Norman, who was going for back-to-back major championship victories after winning the Open Championship 3 weeks earlier, had a 4-shot lead with 9 holes to play but went 4 over the rest of the way. The two players were tied going into 18 as Tway holed a bunker shot for birdie.

1991 (MLB): Wilson Alvarez throws a no-hitter in only his 2nd major league start as the Chicago White Sox defeat the Baltimore Orioles 7-0. The White Sox were -120 road favorites as Alvarez struck out 7 and walked 5 batters on 128 pitches. Only Bobo Holloman of the St Louis Browns (later the Baltimore Orioles) accomplished the feat in fewer starts as he threw a no-hitter in his first MLB start on May 6, 1953.

1994 (MLB): Seattle Mariners ace Randy Johnson strikes out Oakland Athletics Ernie Young to give the Mariners an 8-1 victory and it'll become the final baseball thrown in the big leagues for 7½-months as the players go on strike the next day. The Mariners were -130 road favorites as Johnson struck out 15 and improved to 13-6 on the season. The 1994 postseason was cancelled and 17 games were not played in the 1995 season.
