Mum crashes car with kids inside while five times the legal limit

Fortunately no-one was badly injured, but police were left stunned when they attended the scene of the crash and saw the mother's breath-test reading.

A mother has crashed her car with her two kids inside while five times the legal blood alcohol limit.

Highway Patrol officers from Victoria Police breath-tested the mum after she crashed the Mitsubishi she was driving into another vehicle in Dromana, Victoria, at around 5:30 pm on Monday night.

Police were called to the scene of the crash after receiving reports that the Mitsubishi had failed to navigate a turn onto Boundary Road and had crashed into another car.

The driver, a 41-year-old woman with two children under 10 years-old on board, recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.234.

Luckily no-one involved received more than minor injuries in the collision.

A statement released by Victoria Police said the situation “could easily have been much worse”.

The woman will be charged on summons with exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol, which carries with it an immediate loss of licence.
